Obama condemns Ukraine violence, warns of consequences

By Elise Labott and Tom Cohen

President Barack Obama condemned the violence in the Ukraine, saying Wednesday the United States expected the government to show restraint against protesters and warning there would be consequences for excessive action.

Later, the United States said it would won't issue visas for 20 senior members of the Ukrainian government and others responsible for the violent crackdown this week in the capital of Kiev, a senior State Department official told reporters on a conference call.

That development came as the Ukrainian government and the opposition announced a truce to allow for negotiations to restart with the aim at stabilizing the situation, the official said.

In Mexico for a summit with the leaders of Canada and the host country, Obama said that "we're going to be watching closely and we expect the Ukrainian government to show restraint, to not resort to violence in dealing with peaceful protestors."

Man some consequences , doesn't even feel like we did anything . But at least I guess were not at war right? One day were going to have to stand up though.

Yeah we need to make sure that they understand that any further encroachment to NATO territory will be disastrous for them .

I ask you how many more of our finest sons and daughters and then their children will somehow be coerced and convinced or ordered to become brave soldiers in order to pass one of the entrance rites to adulthood?

I ask you how many more of our world citizens will somehow be coerced and convinced or ordered to go to war to kill other equally perfect human beings?

I ask you how many more of our next generations of finest youths will somehow be coerced and convinced or ordered by leaders of nations, movements and religions to sacrifice their precious lives in war?

How many more will it be?

Will it be many millions more or could it be none?

    Do you possess the answers?

    Indeed you do.

    In deeds you do.

        Breaking Ranks

My focused sight flashes me back again.
I still see us more clearly here than when at war
as our spent ranks like the undead marched
past fire and ashes in a Mekong morning.

        Burning grass is firmly matted;
        cradles a still, slender woman.
        Flowing black hair no longer hides her embers;
no longer shrouds her staring eyes now aglow.

Once I barely cared to glance
        at her infectious, triumphant pyre.
        In my grave procession past
I did not break my stride.

This is really messing up Obamas timing on Climate Change as a WMD...These real world problems just won't go away. Where are the times last year when he could find time for social justice, income inequality, and now unleashing the FCC at news organizations in the best 1st Amendment intrusion since his failed Presidency began?

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

What the Ukrainians need to do now is to proclaim martial law as the Polish did back in 1981. Under Gen. Woycek Jaruzelski, the poles avoided a great deal of bloodshed and eventually became a democracy. Furthermore, the Ukrainians need not to fall into the EU trap. Above all, the right-wing thugs in Washington need to keep their noses out of this!

Hasn't Obama learned his lesson when it comes to dealing with Russia. Putin is going to send him to sit in the corner again with his red crayon like he did during the Syrian debacle. Obama, Hillary Benghzi, Kerry and Biden the fourstooges of America Obama needs to heed his words when he causes this same thing in America.

The concern isn’t the Ukraine it’s our loss of power in western Europe to Russia and in Asia to China. Quickly the U.S. will have limited allies and control we will be isolated.

You idiots are the clowns. He's talking about imposing sanctions of which he has done effectively so far so I don't get the issue here. You dummies will find anything to take a jab at the president at this point. Other countries in the EU are considering sanctions as well but you're not poking at their credibility. The red line that was drawn by Obama was done out of legitimate reasoing. There is actual UN resolutions that Obama was trying to adhere to. If anything, you should be proud that he did that... he was following international law! Not like GWB that didn't follow international law when it came to Iraq. Instead of allowing dumb rhetoric from idiots like the Republican Tea Party and dissastified Liberal snot mokeys to skew your views, why don't you get past your blinders and look at the definites...the facts!

What should one expect this clown Obama to say? Of course he's going to belch out his phony outrage at the Yanukovitch government there but he'll never mention the roll that the C.I.A. is probably playing in that crisis so the EU can eventually take over that country.

And GWB didn't make a joke of our country? Come on! He invaded Iraq on false pretentious. His "handler" Dick Cheney was after the oil, he got nothing! Now GWB's liberated Iraq is Iran's best friend! "Mission accomplished"!! Tell me another fairytale!
I agree that Obama needs to stop drawing red lines, or lines in the sand that he can do nothing about. This is very foolish!

        Keep on blaming Bush.
Yeah I didn't like the guy either but come on already! Obama is worse than Bush in every way!
Sure Bush went into Iraq (which I didn't agree with) but what about Libya, Pakistan, and every other nation that Obama thinks he can get involved in. HE SUPPORTED THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD WHILE THEY WERE BURNING CHURCHES AND KILLING CHRISTIANS IN THE STREETS.
You people need to get a clue.
How about the NSA spying on every single one of us? Most transparent admin in history?

Just remember you can keep your doctor PERIOD.

Why is it that when faced with a challenge to President Obama, Obamaphiles immediately begin deflecting to former President Bush? I don't get it. I remember kids when I was a child would do something similar when they were caught doing something that they weren't supposed to do, they immediately deflected and said something to the effect of, "well Billy did it..." That was usually followed up with the rebuke, "if Billy jumped off a bridge, would you do that?" These comments only show others that if you can't defend the President by invoking President Bush or some other deflection like, "blah, blah, blah Teabaggers, GOP, Ted Cruz, yada, yada, yada" then he most likely isn't doing the right thing and they can't defend him without blaming someone or something else.
