U.S. military fires second high-level nuke officer

Another U.S. military officer with high-level oversight responsibility for the nation's nuclear arsenal has lost his job - the second in the past week.
Maj. Gen. Michael Carey, the two-star general in charge of three Air Force nuclear wings, was "relieved" of command "due to a loss of trust and confidence in his leadership and judgment," the Air Force said in a statement on Friday.
Carey was fired by his boss Lt. Gen James Kowalski, head of the Air Force's Global Strike Command, several months after Kowalski requested an inspector general investigation.
Brig. Gen. Les Kodlick, the chief spokesman for the Air Force, told reporters the inspector general's office began its investigation after multiple "reports of misbehavior" but declined to be specific.
The alleged behavior occurred while Carey was traveling on business.
Kodlick said Carey's behavior did not impact highly sensitive nuclear weapons operations, but added it was such that he could not remain on the job in such a critical position - even though Carey had remained in place for some time during the investigation.
Leading the intercontinental nuclear ballistic missile facilities and operations is "a position of great trust and responsibility," Kodlick said. "Personal behavior is vital to that."
Carey remained on the job during the investigation over the past several months because the probe was still gathering information, Kodlick said.
That investigation is ongoing and Carey has been reassigned pending the final outcome.
The 20th Air Force, which Carey led, is responsible for three wings of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
In August, one of those wings failed a safety and security inspection and a separate wing did poorly in an inspection earlier in the year, which resulted in 17 military personnel being decertified from their jobs. They have since undergone retraining and are back at work.
In the Air Force statement Kowalski said that Carey's former unit "continues to execute its mission of around-the-clock nuclear deterrence in a safe, secure and effective manner."
He said Carey's 35-year career otherwise has been distinctive.
In a separate case, Vice Adm. Tim Giardina was formally relieved of his duties earlier this week as deputy chief of U.S. Strategic Command, according to Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Navy's chief of information.
Giardina oversaw nuclear weapons forces. A military official said his demotion was connected to allegations that he used counterfeit gambling chips at an Iowa casino.
Giardina has been demoted to Rear Admiral and transferred to a job in Washington.

It is logical to deduce we are being intentionally, systematically weakened from within. Most of the things they are getting them for are pretty baseless. In general, I returned to my former duty station to provide help desk support for the wars and witnessed an entirely different Air Force than the one I had left. My old commanding officer grabbed my by the neck on day and whispered in my ear that it wasn't our Air Force any longer. Discipline was lacking with NCOs, officers, etc... all addressing themselves on a first name basis disregarding rank, ignoring rules and procedures and skylarking as I termed it just having a merry old time. I won't mention everything as it wasn't scary but extremely surprising of senior officers and commanders. I was a member of a team which wrote the Air Force's main logistics system tracking the air fleet so I saw everything behind the scenes!!! My old comrades were incredulous at some things!!!

It's obvious the General gambled and lost. How can a man of his stature remain anonymous with repeated trips, not to mention his losses, at a casino?

This has to do with the nukes that were secretly moved from Dyess Air Force base to South Carolina. Giardina was suspended on the exact same day (Sept. 3) that Sen. Lindsey Graham warned of a nuke attack on Charleston South Carolina, and the suspensions were not supposed to be made public, they were instead leaked to the media. Was someone in the US directing these Air Force commanders to sneak nukes to S. Carolina so they could be used against Syria, or were they going to be used in a false flag attack on the US itself? I find it strange that the lame excuse of "counterfeit poker chips" is the reason for his firing. Something is going on.... and it's not good. At all.
Absolutely shocked they made such a sensitive move so public.
Like everyone ought to, the military used to take care of their own problems privately, without gossip.
Maybe things get leaked, when the situation is more serious than people realize.
Maybe the people who are leaking things like this are the last people in the military you would ever expect to leak anything.
And, really, the present situation really all boils down to Qatar.
Appointments to flag rank and the commands of flag ranked officers are always public knowledge, as is their discipline. That is a bedrock principle of a democratic nation with a military that is under overall civilian command. In any event, there is nothing in their relief and discipline that any enemy could possibly use against the US, and the public nature of these proceedings is a strength and not a weakness. Other officers also need to know that their commanders are subject to oversight and discipline when they fail. This strengthens the military in the same way that holding a Captain's Mast in front of the entire crew of a ship or squadron strengthens discipline within that unit.
What I'm driving at is R. James Woolsey's intelligence report on the severe danger the Muslim Brotherhood poses to the U.S. military and the U.S. government.
And I'm not suggesting that any of the officers who were purged were associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
I don't know what is going on in the military except what I read However my Father is ex-military and I have never heard him say anything negative about the military nor about any military men nor any military women. So I as a United States citizen do not appreciate all of this negative additude towards any military men and/or military women who put their life on the line for all United States citizens. And when any military woman is so disrespectful of the military she says she is apart of reminds me of why my Father says women don't belong in the military. How dare her and how dare our military allow someone like her to be apart of their respectful and honorable group.

Being a career enlisted who worked closely for several Star Ranked Officers I'm not in the least surprised at the news of the reassignment/demotion of several of these commanders. Their egos get out of hand and they think they can do no wrong. Their staff won't tell them because they fear them ruining their careers with a mediocre evaluation so they keep quiet and hope the bugger will retire. Only when their conduct becomes an embarrassment to higher command is there an investigation and even then they are treated as SPECIAL. In these cases I give credit to the superior officers who fired these men although they should have done it quicker and more strongly. JMHO YMMV
As someone who has worked (as a career enlisted person) directly for General Carey, I'm stunned. He's a fine officer, very intelligent and totally dedicated to the defense of our nation. I'd waltz through the fires of hell with this man leading me.
I've also worked for several other "Star Ranked Officers" but I would not attempt to use one brush to cover them all. As humans they each have their unique personalities and failings. If you don't know Gen Carey, I'd say your attempt to paint him with the same brush as the officers you "worked closely" with is not relevant here.

I knew Randy Cunningham as an officer and am forever grateful he was never promoted to flag rank but chose to retire instead. Even though there were admirals while I served that I would have done anything for, such as Ace Lyons or Adm. Crowe, from time to time some truly dishonest and/or ego driven types make it to the upper echelons of the military. Randy Cunningham is one such example, Mick Gleason the current 1st District Supervisor of Kern County I fear will turn out to be another judging from the rhetoric he uses and the people he schmoozes to earn his campaign cash.
