On shutdown's 9th day, survivors of fallen troops take center stage

When Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel visits Dover Air Force Base Wednesday, he won't just be honoring troops killed in Afghanistan. His presence will also send a message about the government shutdown.
Hagel will attend a ceremony for the return of soldiers' remains – at a time the families of those service members are not receiving the standard benefits typically given to them.
Due to the partial federal government shutdown, those benefits, which include a $100,000 payment, are being withheld.
It's the "worst nightmare" for military families, says Amy Neiberger-Miller of TAPS, a support network for families of the fallen.

As long as this goes on it should be automatic their check stops also. They do work fdr the government Vote them out next election.They are behaving like two year olds,WHA WHA WHA!!!.
Well said, JOAN. We need to vote every last one of right-wing nut jobs, be they Republicans or Conservative Democrats including Barack Obama out of office once and for all! We need to revive the American Progressive Party better known as the "Bull Moose Party" initiated by former Pres. Theodore Roosevelt in 1912.
I hear that Moose burgers are very tasty.
The only people taking the republicans chicken game seriously are our international partners. Right now republicans are destroying the country. They don't care. They would rather sit and pick and choose who to screw and who not to rather than do the job they are paid to do.
Like it or not passing budgets, and dealing with debt ceiling are your primary job. That doesn't mean sit with your thumbs in your butts till you get your way on unrelated policies. You are refusing to do your jobs. This is exactly the reason we have a second amendment.
It is basically a guarantee we default, which will have consequences for everyone. What has happened already has consequences for all of us. Our government is suicidal and going to take us with them.
The R's voted on this already it is setting on Reids desk........ Who is playing games?
Israel will still get its welfare, you can be sure.
Maybe we should furlough the House of Representatives as non-essentials! Under Boehner's leadership, their "do nothing" approach to governance should not be considered "essential"! Sit there day after day, supported by all their staff members and do nothing is not very essential work! Send them all home for a few months, who will miss them? Without politicians to bribe, thousands of lobbyists can also go home.
