What did Obama mean on Iran?

By Elise Labott, reporting from the United Nations

So what did President Barack Obama mean when he said he was instructing Secretary of State John Kerry to negotiate a deal with Iran on its nuclear program?

Basically it’s to show that the United States is ready to play ball.

Senior administration officials said it wasn't to indicate a new initiative, as negotiations with Iran are already technically already taking place.

Instead, it was meant to show an increased emphasis and importance the president is putting on improved relations.

Until now, negotiations with Iran have been held at political directors level.

Obama’s decision to entrust Kerry to take the file is meant to reiterate his openness to move forward with Iran, particularly on the bilateral level although no separate meetings between Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif are planned as of now.

But Kerry will join his Iranian counterpart at a Thursday meeting of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, plus Germany. Discussions will surround restarting talks on Iran's nuclear program.

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he just bought me lunch since I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch! Obama has no clue what he meant. He is so dependent off that teleprompter and speeches prepared by others, he could not possibly know anymore what the heck is going on. That is what happens if you are used to letting others do the work for you.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

John Smith's little rant is replicated numerous times, almost word for word, on various news sties. It's just a piece of propaganda. As Obama said, the US is blamed if it interferes, and the US is blamed for not doing enough. The "60" number, which cannot be verified, at best refers to places where we have had a military presence. We did not invade or start wars in 60 countries. The "60" number shows up from Far Right sites to Far Left sites, a standard Big Lie hurled at America. Who is Top Dog? America. Are we really that good or smart or brave? No. Should we be Top Dog? Maybe not. Why all the hate of America? The haters want to be Top Dog.

He was NOT mean enough; he should have threaten Iran to bomb back to the stone age, and then negotiate a deal with Russia to make Iran nuclear free.

Sorry folks, I never posted the above. As the true George patton here, I say let's all hope and pray that this will be the badly needed breakthrough between the U.S. and Iran. Who in their right mind wants the good for nothing current animosity to continue? Certainly not I!!!

Wishful thinking of a Phunnie boy; you want to negotiate from stronger side; first bomb them then bring them to the table half dead already.

We have been "playing hardball" for decades achieving what results? Nothing but more wars. We are sick and tired of the stupid wars we have waged for people who never appreciate what we try to do for them! No country wants war today, all have witnessed the results. Nobody wins, everyone loses! No major country has won any war since WWII. Israel doesn't count! Even Israel's big victories resulted in "No lasting peace!" It is very doubtful that Israel will conclude any negotiated peace with the Palestinians, Israel is still of the mentality that war is necessary, especially when they can convince the US to bomb Iran for them! Israel used illegal phosphorous bombs with no complaints! Why not push further?
Where did our faithful European allies go when Syria came up? They all pulled back, knowing full well that any military strike on Syria would prove worthless. Russia stepped forward (at long last) to try to solve this mess without bombs. Now even Iran is "thinking about" their situation.
Where is Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan? All silent! These benefactors of our billions of dollars spent and thousands of our own killed or terribly wounded are all silent! Iraq is busy helping Iran get weapons into Syria, Afghanistan is busy making Karsai and his relatives richer, Pakistan continues to hide and protect terrorists! Not to mention Saudi Arabia where most of our worst terrorists really come from! Is anyone suggesting we bomb the Saudi's? Two of our biggest so called friends, Saudi Arabia and Israel are directly responsible for the huge mess in the Middle East! Until these two change their behavior, there can be no peace!!! NONE!

Good posting, Stan. Don't pay any attention to that nincompoop Tea Partier above who keeps usurping my name for his personal amusement. These wars you described produced nothing but more wealth for the right-wing politicians in Washington who are only interested in making money and promoting their political careers!!!
