President Obama asks Senate to delay military strike vote, senator says

(CNN) - As a Russian proposal to strip Syria of its chemical weapons began to take shape, the White House eased off the gas on Tuesday in its drive for congressional approval to strike the Middle Eastern country.

President Barack Obama asked Senate Democrats to delay voting on authorizing military action in Syria while the diplomatic process works itself out, according to senators in a meeting with Obama.

A White House official told CNN that during his meeting on the hill, the president said that his administration would spend the days ahead pursuing this diplomatic option with the Russians and U.S. allies at the United Nations.

The president "asked for some time to work things out - a matter of days into next week," Sen. Dick Durbin said.

In the meantime, Obama will work with members of Congress on authorizing language for a military strike because doing so will further strengthen our diplomatic efforts, the White House official said.

So all we got before they put it off for nearly two months is talk, and signing the geneva stuff. No actionable, verifiable steps taken and they are now delaying by 30 days plus.
As far as im concerned, this was a one shot chance with zero room for ploys. An acceptable timeline would have been inspectors starting to move before the end of this 2 day conference. Before the end of the week at the most.
If they think we are playing games like we did with Iran they are wrong. This was a one shot , one time offer.
It is time to start working behind the scenes for alternative solutions. Schedule the vote, perhaps modify the language in it. I don't think more than 7 days is needed.

The only options if they are stalling is to move the cw. This is more dangerous than assad having them. Now, that we have given them a chance and they have apparently stalled it is when we are sure its a stall and not a reasonable delay that it is imperative to strike with violence of action, to contain the cw. Not to punish, but to contain.

It is much more effective to send them an army of Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons and Hare Krishna so that Muslims can be domesticated.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

I'm glad Russia took the lead and came up with a diplomatic solution to this issue. Hard to believe that a leader who got a Nobel Peace Prize was so ready to go on the attack without exploring other non-military options. Wasn't Obama the one who campaigned on seeking peaceful solutions to world hotbed issues during his 1st election? You know you are on the wrong track as a leader of the US when Great Britain won't even go along!

all russians are doing is trying to take the air out of Obama's balloon, Obama, let's not wait too long. Give putin a dead line, hand over Snowdung and Assad or we will bomb Russia back to the stone age.
