Hagel: 'We're ready to go' if order comes on Syria response

By Chris Lawrence, Jill Dougherty and Tom Cohen

With a flurry of diplomatic signals and activity, U.S. officials sought Tuesday to lay the groundwork for a possible military attack on Syria in response to last week's suspected chemical weapons attack that Washington blames on President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Secretary of State John Kerry both consulted allies and indicated potential imminent action by a coalition likely to include key NATO partners and regional powers.

Days after the United States moved warships armed with cruise missiles into the region, Hagel told the BBC on Tuesday that forces were ready to carry out a strike if ordered. A senior Defense Department official told CNN that any strike could be completed "within several days."

"We are ready to go, like that," Hagel told the BBC reporter.

I would like to say, as Syrian woman been in USA 25 years and been raised here and I love USA to much , I hate to see America getting involved in Syria like this , instead of having good stand with Syria , we are being enemies with Syria. I still have family there and they are telling me that all what it is been saying about Syrian president and his military not true, Please if any way I could get it to the press to understand what is going on please let me know because I am really getting sick and tired of hearing lies after lies from the news and I am sure you guys are getting the wrong information from the wrong resource .

Here we go again! Another wild goose chase, with no goose to catch!
The Middle East needs to solve their own problems. If it means that they all kill each other, so what! Why is this America's problem?

It now appears that the right-wing thugs in Washington want this obscene war so bad they can taste it! And even worse, the moral pygmies in Europe are jumping aboard on this! Have morality and human decency now become that much of a thing of the past? It is now self evident that the Western leaders no longer respect these things. Even more, it appears that both the U.S. and Europe are fast becoming post-Christian societies, sadly enough!

      I'm confused.
Which right wing thug is occupying the White House? I must have missed an election. The last one I heard about was won by a Left wing thug.
Oh by the way the Left Wing Thug In Charge and Europe are as Anti-christian as you can get.

There are no left-wingers governing anywhere in either Washington or Europe. marco1. Obama became a right-wing thug and sold out upon assuming the Presidency. The leaders in Europe are no better. Every last one of them is no more than a puppet for the U.S. and are completely amoral and right-wing. These people no longer care for either moral principles or decency, only the will of Washington D.C.!

Terrorism with a “Human Face”: The History of America’s Death Squads
The recruitment of death squads is part of a well established US military-intelligence agenda. There is a long and gruesome US history of covert funding and support of terror brigades and targeted assassinations going back to the Vietnam war.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

You're quite right about one thing, Towel Head Detector. If the Muslims, both Sunni and Shiite were smart enough, they should come together and make their cause common against the West. As long as they're going to fight each other, the West will take every advantage of this!

  12. Working to finance the Middle East military welfare machine

Let me go in to my boss and ask for overtime this holiday weekend so my tax dollars can help finance yet another conflict we don't need to be a part of in the Middle East. It's a Civil War, they'll sort it out! Do any of you think our Civil War was any less violent or had any fewer civilian casualties? War = Death & Civil War = Civilian Deaths. It's inevitable, and will happen again I promise. A soverign countries domestic affairs should be left to the populace of that country without external interference.

Spoken like someone who has never seen the horrors of war. Reguardless of what country it is happening in the insignificant complaints of overtime will never outweight the pain of the those suffering a chemical death. Would you not interdict a helpless neighbor being attacked? Are we to worried we might be late for work?

It would be absolutely hilarious if the Russians and/or Chinese threatened the USA back! Not that I would really like that, but the US needs to be taken down a peg or two for all their involvement in countries where they have no rights to interfere!

If Russia and/or Chinese escalated or threatened the USA, I don't think you really want to see the response. Obama would be put in a corner. I do agree with you we don't need further involvement in the Middle East, no matter the outcome Syria will never be are allied.

Actually I would like to see the response. As JFK did with the Bay of Pigs, I'd like to see Putin, throw down the gauntlet! Who would blink first?
