Arming Syrian rebels not popular, polls say

By Kevin Liptak

Even as President Barack Obama seeks to rally support for his plan to further assist Syrian rebels at this week's Group of Eight conference in Northern Ireland, polls show Americans back home casting a wary eye on providing arms to opposition forces in the conflict-torn nation.

In a Gallup survey conducted over the weekend, 54% of adults said they disapproved of the Obama administration's decision to provide military aid to rebel fighters in Syria, compared to 37% who said they approved of the move.

The announcement of the new lethal aid to Syria came on Thursday, when the White House said it had confirmed that chemical weapons were used by President Bashar al-Assad against rebels and his own people, and thereby crossed a "red line." While the Obama administration did not specify what type of military support it would provide, sources have told CNN that small arms and ammunition are part of the package.

If we eventually send in ground troop support how many Congressional members children will go put their lives on the line for a intervention/conflict that the Majority of Americans oppose ?

Considering that the rebels are supported by Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, the radical Saudi Wahabbis, and al-Qaeda, what could possibly go wrong by throwing our support to them?! They are no better than the Iran-Hezbollah-Assad team on the other side.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

To tweek your post: it is the American government carries the blame, not the American people in general. Our "leaders" have lost sight of the fact that they are elected to represent the will of our people. But they are more interested in pushing forward their own agendas regardless of public opinion. Nothing new, not exclusive to any party. "...government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth." The American people will fall into the abyss, but the government will be just fine.

Im not onboard with arming rebels at this point. If they were more organized and better odds then maybe. But the rebels are still playing each other and if they did win look at the power struggle the day after. To many wars within wars and then some.

Arming those so-called "rebels" or riff raft in Syria should never be a popular idea. In fact, only a stupid crazy fool would be in favor of it! Unfortunately, the M.I.C. in Washington has both the President and the majority in Congress paid off so this will take place!!!

@the true George Patton-2. Thank you for telling the truth here, George. The M.I.C. does own the majority in Congress plus the White House. In Washington, the Dollar is King!!!!!!
