Where North Korea most threatens U.S. troops

U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, less than 20 miles from the border with North Korea, bases in Japan and Guam are all targets for North Korea's missiles. Chris Lawrence reports on how and where North Korea would strike U.S. troops.

America should simply wait until they get the missiles in place to launch and bomb the launch pad to the ground through a quick, strategic air strike. North Korea doesn't have the tech to track stealth bombers like the B-2s we flew over S. Korea. Nobody knew about them until they were used as a show of force. All we have to do is say enough of this and destroy any missiles they try to put in the air. Problem solved. Who's going to complain? Why'd you bomb poor N. Korea's launch pads? Oh, that's right, they're threatening you with nuclear attacks. We don't need to invade or wait to be bombed, we just have to take a little initiative before Nukes come into play from them.

I think China should back the U.S. and tell North Korea that if they start anything that they are on their own.

The U.S. is getting beat with a stick. I don't hear anyone in Washington saying "all options remain on the table" The silence is deafening. Now Obama and company want to "cool the rhetoric." Nobody cooled Bush's rhetoric in 2003.

What kind of fake fear-mongering story is this? It makes it sound like the U.S. troops are just stationary targets incapable of any retaliation except with super-star strategic weapons systems. Any conventional weaponry NK brings up to put our forces within their range obviously puts those NK weapons within our range, this means the NK war machine will not be operational for long for the simple reason that U.S. conventional warfighting is vastly superior to anything NK can withstand. This is not 1950, major advancements have occurred since then.

If those right-wing thugs in Washington had any sense at all, they would pull all American troops out of South Korea and replace them with J apanese troops. We need to turn all of our bases in the Western Pacific over to our allies and vacate that part of the world where we have no true business!!!

How don't we have any business in the pacific? That part of the world is where we do the most business! Protecting our stategic and economic allies and preserving freedom of the seas. What we need to do is pull all troops out of Europe. And what would happen if we left our allies? They would be bullied and they wouldn't support the united states at all. One great strength of the United States is our allies... we like to know we have their backs and they have ours. And they do. We wont let any democratic and socially forward counties to fend for themselves. Not until China progresses socially and starts giving freedoms to its people... which i think they will... someday. Then we can just have troops in Guam, Hawaii, and near potential hotspots... We want the world to be stable and trustworthy... for economic purposes and its just the right thing to do until then we cannot turn our back to the world. We will be able to cut our military expense in half when countries like iran and north korea turn a new leaf. Hopefully the US, Russia, and China will someday have talks which will unilaterally reduce everyone's militaries to self defense and peacekeeping forces. And a huge reduction of nukes on all sides. The more stable the world is... the better. Right now the United States presence in asia is very welcoming... except to china and its "allies"... which is because we stand for freedom and democracy, and they dont. simple. Once these trouble making countries decide that war with the US is impossible and stop threatening Nuclear War... then we can keep troops at actually peaceful levels. ( haven't been there since before ww2) I think that its in our interest as a nation the keep the world peaceful. Even if war is necessary to keep it peaceful... "Si vis pacem, para bellum"

Kim Jung Un has much to loose if he makes the wrong decisions. He would loose his families monarchy in the country. He would loose the countries infrastructure. The family has lied and tricked the peace loving civilians of North Korea. Because of the lies the people suffer his consequences.

Only China can stop this current maddness, why don't they? Is it because China also has a new leader now who must prove himself?
If this becomes a "hot war" with NK, everyone loses – there will be no winner!
The US should declare a national emergency and immediately forbid any, and all, containers and container ships from China from entering any US ports. Sure, our economy would be hurt, But China's economy would be devastated! Better to take an economic hit than a military/nuclear hit! Any Chinese container could contain a NK made nuke. This is a problem!

China has remained silent on this current problem. They certainly do not want NK to fail, but do nothing! Russia also has a big stake in NK but also remains silent.
China is the main obstacle here, but Russia is also an obstacle.

As I stated, this is China's problem to solve, not the US! We, the US, MUST convince China that it IS their problem!

The USA needs to abandon the SALT treaties as Russia did in the past and produce nuclear warheads in overwhelming numbers. Russia and China have no respect for the USA because they think a nuclear war would be "win-able" because of the SALT treaty reductions in warheads. The USA needs more Ohio-class submarines carrying the Poseidon missiles. When they go to sea they are lost in the vast oceans and cannot be touched. Then Russia and China will re-discover their rsponsibility to world peace.

@Joe M,go back and see what your hero the senile maniacal Reagan did back in the 80s with mass producing ICBMs and lying to our face saying there was a missile race when Russia quit in its country because it was going bankrupt from building missiles as well .But no your Reagan cut discretionary spending by 70% to find his maniacal dream of being a world dictator but alzheimers was stronger than he was wasn't it!!

Has anyone thought that we are being duped by North Korea's ridiculous threat to nuke us with a ballistic missile strike? Pyongyang knows as well as we do – they have no chance of hitting us with a ballistic missile. But, they are not doing all of this bellicose gesticulating for theirs or our amusement. It is far more likely that this is deliberate misdirection. What if months ago the North Koreans figured out a way to smuggle a nuke in a shipping container to Guam, Hawaii, or the US west coast? Possibly, they might have even smuggled a nuke through China, and Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iran to an Arabian Sea port where it has been making it's way to the US East Coast (think Washington D.C.).

Now, while we are confidently sitting back snickering at their carefully calculated theatrics. All they have to do is make a big public spectacle of another one of their missile launches, which will be touted as a great success by the North Korean press, but will be seen to have pathetically failed by the rest of the world. Once it is clear to the world at large that the missile failed; the undetected, smuggled nuke will explode somewhere on the United States soil. Since the world will have seen the failure of the North Korean's fake launch, the United States will not be able to directly retaliate. What can we do? We can't attack them because the whole world saw it was not the North Korean's missile that was responsible.

However, Kim Jong Un will be able to take great pride in having accomplished exactly what he said he would do. He will have nuked the United States and we will not have good cause to retaliate.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

And North Korea only tortures and imprisons its own people for not worshipping the Kim family loudly enough. If Kim Jong Un were able to take over South Korea, he would only turn it into a starving wasteland like North Korea and North Korean escapees would have no place to go to escape the Kim family insanity.
