Petraeus apologizes for affair, says 'it was my own doing'

From CNN Staff

In a rare public appearance since admitting to an extramarital affair, David Petraeus apologized Tuesday night for the scandal that led to his resignation as head of the CIA last year.

Petraeus, a retired four-star general, has stayed out of the limelight since the affair was revealed in November.

"Please allow me to begin my remarks this evening by reiterating how deeply I regret and apologize for the circumstances that led to my resignation from the CIA and caused such pain for my family, friends and supporters," Petraeus told a crowd gathered at a Los Angeles hotel ballroom. "I am also keenly aware that the reason for my recent journey was my own doing."

His comments came at an annual University of Southern California dinner to honor the military. It was one of the fist major public appearance since the scandal derailed the illustrious career of the decorated Army general.

Petraeus, who once ran the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, resigned from his CIA post in November.

Wasn't this already covered? For crying out loud let it go and move on. Stop acting like some high school kid who made a mistake and think they need to apologize a million times before someone gets it. You already apologized and we have moved on beyond you General...time for you to do the same.

Gee whiz Ian, I thought that Ian was a Scottish name but your use of English makes you sound more like a non British European or some other kind of foreigner. Besides, Petraeus is just another man like you and I and not a superhero as some make him out to be!

Most of my ancestors were non British Europeans wjmccartan, and I'm quite proud of it. In fact, the Germans are smarter than the British and the only reason Great Britain became a leading world power is the simple fact that Germany didn't become united until 1871 and pose a challenge to it! That gave the British a 500 year head start!

You cast the USA in a bad light and that isn't the case, George Patton 2. The drone strikes are against enemies of the world, those who wish to harm and kill innocent people who share the same faith, and anyone else who doesn't share their believes are religious zealots and killers, there is no place on the planet for those who choose to follow these killers. If they choose that way to live, then they will die as they should. If they never change they will be eliminated. There is no grief felt by those of us who enjoy living in civilized countries where the rule of law is respected every day not just when its convenient.

This is a war and it will be won. Those who promote this war in their mosques and teach it to their children, these Clerics of hate will always find people who will stand against them.

This is really why drones are necessary, the world knows this and supports their use.

Death to the Taliban and Al Queda.

Gee whiz me, you make an excellent mouth piece for the right-wing thugs in Washington as that is exactly what they want us all to believe. Anyone with more than a grade school education should know better than that mumbo-jumbo you posted above! Sure these people are religious fanatics but it's the right-wing fanatics in Wahington who want these wars so that they can make a profit, no matter how many people have to die in the process!

You can call him a right-wing apologist until some crowd of thugs makes you pay the jiyza or coverts you by the sword all you want. But his point is accurate.

If you believe people around the world basically want the same things ad that humans are basically good hearted, you're a fool. Those who apologize for the Muslim world because tend to be those who "have a Muslim friend who is cool", and they mistakenly attribute that to the wider Muslim world. That's idiotic. MOST of the Muslim world wants your head, and you blow it off at your peril...and ours, as well.

This David Petraeus would do better to apologize for the use of those cursed drones for hurling 500 lb. bombs on defenseless people in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen among other countries. This is far less moral than any affair he may have committed!

You mean committing murder was his job, 1371usmc. So was that of those who committed the 1929 St. Valentine's day massacre in Chicago. Using those drones to kill people need to be outlawed here and now!
