State preparing for Clinton's last hurrah

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is sprinting to the finish as America's top diplomat, preparing for a high-profile hearing on the deadly Benghazi attack and two signature opportunities to have the last word on her tenure.
Clinton, who returned to work last week after battling a virus and a blood clot, is aggressively tackling her work load, even as official Washington gets ready to pause for President Barack Obama's second inaugural on Monday.
Sandwiched between the inaugural and Thursday's Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the nomination of Sen. John Kerry to replace her, Clinton will testify before House and Senate committees on Benghazi.
Her appearance on Wednesday was originally scheduled in December, but was postponed as she confronted health issues.
Lawmakers are eager to question her in public about the terror assault on the Benghazi diplomatic post that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
Some have sharply criticized security at the compound as well as the Obama administration's slow-to-develop explanation of events in the days that followed the attack.
Clinton has ordered that all of the recommendations of an independent review of the attack be as close to full implementation as possible before she answers questions about the incident publicly.
On Kerry, Clinton's aides say she has been speaking with him almost daily to discuss the job and prepare him for a seamless transition, should he be confirmed.
Clinton is scheduled to introduce Kerry before the foreign relations panel, which he has chaired.
It is expected that Kerry will receive swift approval from committee members. But the panel must wait at least a week before taking its vote. That would be followed by consideration of the full Senate.
With the Kerry nomination possibly on track to wrap up quickly, Clinton will turn to events that could allow her to have the last word on a number of issues before she steps out the door to a future some speculate could include a presidential run in 2016.
The first event, on January 29, will be a global town-hall style forum at the State Department. She has held a number of these so-called "townterview" events while traveling, but this will be the first for her at the State Department.
At the town hall, Clinton will take questions from an audience and online, social media, and broadcast participants.
She will then give a valedictory address on January 31 to the Council on Foreign Relations, a nonpartisan think tank, on American leadership.
Although there is no date-certain, her last day could come as early as February 1, if the nomination process for Kerry, plays out as expeditiously as possible.
"She's entering a period that she has not experienced in a very long time. She will wake up on Monday, February 4, and not have to be anywhere she doesn't want to be," said Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines, in an interview with CNN.
But Reines demurred when asked if, in fact, the preceding Friday would be her last day.

I continue to read with interest the thesis presented on CNN that "less is more" in a political context as applied to India. Although Mies Van Der Rohe adopted this in an architectural context, its economic and political connotations are indeed powerful. Empowering subjugated minorities in India by splitting it into smaller states would trigger uber economic demand for western nations who have given so much financial and technology aid to India with no return to show for the investment. I concur with this approach and with an economic background find the premise to be on solid footing. Central Asian States (CAS) are a case in point on this successful approach. We need to understand that India has an unmanageable large population mired in poverty and we are spinning our wheels trying to feed it. It is also too big of a geographical unit to govern. Again, we saw how a few teenage talibans were able to invade it with a few BB guns. And that says a lot... in a negative way not only for a large unmanageable country like India but also for USA which is trying to prop it up against China. Besides, Americans cannot afford to look like losers in the midst of a terror war which has lasted for over ten years now.

I have had my fill of Clintons in or near the White House. With Obama as our lame duck president, looking to see if there isn't someone with integrity, passion, and vision who can run for president in 2016. Someone capable of moving this country from the edge, inspire and incentivize those who are government-dependent to becoming independent achievers, return our nation's economy to that of a producer nation (even if that means being less ervices oriented). Obama appointed Hillary as Secretary of State because her supporters were seriously angry at him over the way his first presidential campaign treated her, and he wanted all of their votes for his second presidential campaign. Listen to Obama. Listen to Reagan speeches. Now, listen to her. Regardless of your feelings about any of the previous 3, they had charisma. But Dubbya, you say, was a poor public speaker! Gore was a stiff. Kerry was about on par with W. And when W was passionate (remember 9/11 speeches) he looked better. Again, like him or not, it is the truth.

As for Obama winning. First, you are buying into my argument about his charisma. Hillary doesn't have it. You may want her to have it. But she doesn't have it. Had she, SHE would have won in 2008. What does it say about the Democratic party that they would prefer a AA with little experience over a white woman with greater experience? I'm not suggesting something negative, simply that with all that against O, his positives (charisma, looks, vigor) outweighed her positives (experience) and negatives (lack of charisma, pedantic speaking style) packaged together. Also, he won the general election, with no small help from an unpopular, exiting president of the opposite party, and a fiscal crisis blamed upon the then current occupant and the Republicans (fairly, or not).
She will be promoted by her party and a sympathetic media. But then, wasn't she promoted in 2008? Wanna win, Hillary? Regardless of their politics, spend some time with women who know how to put themselves together as women and politicians. Think I am being unfair? Ask yourself, if you had to choose between A Dem ticket of Boxer and Feinstein or Hillary and, say, Pelosi, who would you rather watch on TV for four years? Everyone, get a grip. People said the absolute worst things about W. Video games were made. Obama said W was not a patriot when he upped the debt ceiling. I remember people (with low IQs, actually) "slyly" calling W "Mr. Bush", not President Bush, implying he was illegitimate. I remember a college friend hoping Reagan died when he was shot. Blah, blah, blah.
But a couple of things we all have to understand. Would you say society, on the whole, has become better or worse in the last 50 years? You may like gay marriage or abortion or whatever. Not arguing pro or con. I am simply stating that with everything you like, there may have been a few negative things that have slipped through. Decaying cities. Babies having babies. High divorce rates. Worsening education. Falling wages. Etc., etc., etc. These things don't necessitate armed insurrection. However, to think that, somehow, putting more people on foodstamps, disability, 99 weeks of unemployment, free contraception, is going to fix our country's ills, you are delusional.
We don't live under a tyranny yet. Not even close. But do you really feel free? If you depend upon the government for your shelter, food and healthcare even though you have the ability to obtain those things for yourself, are you really free? It isn't about caring for those unable to care for themselves. We all want to do that, Dem and Repub. It is about creating a permanent underclass of fulling capable people that is dependent upon someone else. And the willing members of the dependent class aren't tyrannized yet because of their dependency. But can you guarantee me that in 50 or 100 years someone won't take advantage of that dependency?
