Unique Civil War artifacts on display

As America marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with movies like the current blockbuster "Lincoln" and re-enactments of many of the war's crucial battles, the Library of Congress has just jumped into the fray.
"The Civil War in America" is an exhibit of more than 200 items from the Library's collection of hundreds of thousands of Civil War-related items. The library claims it holds the largest such collection of Civil War artifacts in the world.
The exhibit opened this month and runs until June 1st of next year. But not all the items will stay on display for the length of the exhibit. Some are too fragile. Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address, for example, will be on display only for a few weeks and then will be put back in storage to protect it from damaging light. It will be replaced by a replica.

I was born and raised in Savannah, Ga. I have never lived outside of the South (Mainly because I HATE cold weather) I am not mad. Neither are MOST of us here in the South. You may have a few hard line holdovers from those days of extreme racism but they are all dying off in large numbers. The only reason that racism is still alive is because it is a powerful political platform. Liberals can throw up the race card any time they get backed into a corner. I got news for you. If the South was still racist then we never would have had a black president. Think about it.

You should look at the maps from the from 2008 election. The south all voted GOP and it had little difference in the outcome of the election. Its sad that a few new england states and the west coast can vote democrat and there is nothing we can do about it. Most people in the south are not racist. But instead choose to not associate with others who portray the negatives of society. If you don't wear your pants at your waist, feel your rap music needs to be played loud enough for the whole neighborhood to enjoy it, or buy new sneakers before paying your water bill, then don't even think about pulling the race card in your defense.

someone told me he had an iPod, a pack of hubba bubba gum, and a tooth brush. Apparently Lincoln kept his teeth fastidiously clean. I say B#llsh$t! where did he get the iPod from, hmmmm? Those were not made until at least the late 1950s.
Lincoln had already by contacted by children acting on behalf of the Intelligence agencies of the United States, he knew he would be assassinated because of what he knew. I know many will laugh and say who haha. There is evidence, I've seen iit. My grandfather was a Military Police officer in Korea then a contracted security police and worked in places where these things took place. Other presidents and people in power also had these interactions, and to keep them from talking they either killed or recruited them to be in high power roles even today. If you click on picture ten, the caption lists the items. I forget everything, but there were eyeglasses, handkerchiefs monogrammed with his first initial and full last name, a $5 confederate bill, what looked to be a folding wallet, and a few other items.

Truly fascinating stuff. It reminds us how relatively recently the Civil War was fought ...and that it was probably the first major war where old-style Napoleonic infantry & cavalry tactics met modern industrial weaponry, resulting in the horrifically high casualty rates seen on both sides, being the price paid to maintain the Union.
