(CNN) - An F-22 fighter jet crashed Thursday afternoon near Tyndall Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle. The pilot ejected safely, according to Lt. Col. John Dorrian, a spokesman for the U.S. Air Force.
Tyndall AFB is a training base for F-22 pilots. There's no confirmation that the plane took off from Tyndall before the crash, but that would be logical, Dorrian said.
The F-22 has been the focus of years of investigations about a problem that causes some of the stealth fighter's pilots to become dizzy or black out. The exact cause of the problem still hasn't been identified.
Last year, the Government Accountability Office put the cost per F-22 (including research and development) at $412 million.
propose a new law. Anyone posting more than one "ha" is publicly executed at a hometown near you.
Did Lockheed team up with FORD to build these jets ?
Dang dude, why all the hate? Oh I know, still mad at the outcome of the election? Don't worry, the "47%" the didn't matter showed up to vote. Toodles. 🙂
Too bad he couldn't have taken out a trailer park or two. Better still, crash it into Miami and take out the greasers and Jews.
I see you can't resist being stupid Jannani.
And then there were 182 raptors... is it just me or do we seem to crash all our stealth?
Exact cause stems from usury, which overworks the people, forcing dangerous shortcuts, fraud, waste, loss of life, extortion and many other evils.
Larry, to say that when an accident occurs that the same unit investigates it is completely asinine. You obviously are uninformed and assuming because I guarantee that you can't back that up. The USAF makes it a point to bring in outside personnel exactly for the reason you stated above. Do some research before you start making blind accusations.
And in further news........The Iranians report they have successfully downed an F-22 on US soil!!!! Hahahahahahahah
Thinking differently,
to preserve stealth characteristics to optimum there has been no development of two-seater F-22s, thus no “operational conversion platforms”.
Did it affect the training standards? F-22s have been prohibit ably expensive platforms to lose.
Sayan.
The real cause of the problem might be a security problem. If there was an organization like the NTSB that would investigate military accidents like the NTSB does with civilian accidents it would save taxpayers a lot of money. Military investigations get mired in issues of CYA and other problems that have little to do with the actual cause of the accident. Often times the organization being investigated is the very same organization that's doing the actual investigation. There's another problem here. The number of flight hours needed for a pilot to maintain proficiency is being restricted because of cutbacks. This saves on operational expenses but becomes more expensive when a crash occurs. The only good news, so far is that the pilot is save.
But $412 million just wasted.
Well said, Jannani. Now we see where our tax money goes!!!
not wasted! created many, many high pay jobs.
