First on CNN: Clinton to remove Iranian exile group from terror list

By Elise Labott

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to notify Congress on Friday that she plans to take Iranian exile group Mujahedin-e-Khalq, or MEK, off a State Department terror list, three senior Obama administration officials told CNN.

Notification will be followed by formal removal in coming days from the list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations, which includes more than 50 groups like al Qaeda and Hezbollah. Clinton recently designated the Pakistani-based Haqqani network a foreign terrorist organization.

Such a listing attaches a certain stigma and allows the United States to legally go after financing and take other steps against individuals associated with these groups.

MEK was put on list in 1997 because of the killing of six Americans in Iran in the 1970s and an attempted attack against the Iranian mission to the United Nations in 1992.

However, the United States has since 2004 considered the group, living for more than 25 years at a refugee camp in Iraq, "noncombatants" and "protected persons" under the Geneva Conventions.

MEK's move from Camp Ashraf is nearing completion under the auspices of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq. The members are relocating to a temporary site there before being re-settled in third countries.

The United States has been working with the U.N. High Commissioner of Refugees to re-settle the group.

Clinton is under a court order to decide by October 1 whether to remove MEK from the terror list. She has said several times that her decision would be guided, in part, by whether it moves peacefully.

"We don't love these people but the secretary's decision is merited based on the record of facts that we have," one U.S. official said. "This was not done casually and it's the right decision."

Officials acknowledge the decision was the subject of a contentious debate within the administration.

MEK is considered by many in the administration to be a bizarre cult-like organization, prompting concerns about its behavior. Officials say these concerns factored heavily in the debate.

"While they present themselves as a legitimate democratic group worthy of support, there is universal belief in the administration that they are a cult" one official said. "A de-listing is a sign of support or amnesia on our part as to what they have done and it does not mean we have suddenly changed our mind about their current behavior. We don't forget who they were and we don't think they are now who they claim to be, which is alternative to the current regime."

MEK denies that it supports terrorism and supporters rally daily in front of the State Department, demanding the United States remove it from the terrorism list.

Many members of Congress have pressured Clinton to do the same.

Moreover, MEK has paid well-known former U.S. politicians and former administration heavyweights to speak out on its behalf, including former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, former FBI Director Louis Freeh, and former National Security Advisor James Jones.

The last major convoy of 680 members of the MEK arrived on Sunday at the temporary relocation site at a former U.S. military base near Baghdad International Airport, the U.N. mission for Iraq said.

The State Department said at the time that the arrival marked "a significant milestone in efforts to achieve a sustainable humanitarian solution to this issue."

"The big test now is to start getting these people out of Iraq through the UNHCR and that is where we should return. Our ability to succeed on this is based on many factors, especially how the MEK behaves because countries will be determining whether they will take a large amount of refugees from this group," another official said.

"If they think the notion of de-listing means they can run wild, that isn't true. If they want to leave Iraq, they have to behave," the official said.

MEK leaders have been reluctant to complete the move from Camp Ashraf to Camp Hurriya, formerly an American facility known as Camp Liberty. They complained about conditions at the new camp, calling it more a prison than a home after the first convoy arrived in February.

Camp Ashraf was established in 1986 after former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein invited members of MEK to relocate to Iraq in an effort to undermine the Iranian government, which was then at war with Iraq. Iran also considers the group to be a terrorist organization.

Few days back, there was an interesting article on Pakistan "The bubble of Islamic Republic of Pakistan has burst in our faces". It made me to do more research on the subject and on grave political conditions in Pakistan, and possibility of another military coup. We here in the United States, continue to monitor the political and cultural turmoil in Pakistan and are very concerned with the continued state of deterioration, and it's nuclear stockpile. At this point, we restate our view that Islamic Republic of Pakistan is in a precarious situation and that a geo-political implosion is imminent (if not already in process) and the need of the hour. As you will recall, along the Afghan/Pak borders, Pakistan has an unmanageable large fundamentalist Taliban population mired in poverty and we are spinning our wheels trying to prop it up. Additionally, it is also too big of a geographical units of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) for Pakistani weak government to govern. In 2001 the Pakistani military entered the FATA for the first time in history, and returned home with heavy casualties. We Americans now need to focus on our own people and cannot afford to handout more financial and technological aid to Pakistan. We believe that this de-fragmentation of Pakistan along 13 FATA agencies (see the list below) will unleash boundless opportunities and uber economic demand that will be beneficial to US and our allies in extracting rare earth minerals along Afghan/Pak borders, and help pull ourselves out of current recessionary trends. Knowing presence of hard core islamic fundamentalists, war lords, drug cartels, and Russians and Chinese involvement, in the region, We pray for the events to unfold peacefully and in a harmonious manner for the poverty stricken people of Pakistan and its global future economic super power neighbors China and India. For the sake of long lasting peace and to break the cycle of violence in Pakistan, a potential solution for out of control militancy in Pakistan is to break down the Pakistan along the FATA agencies, like creation of Bangladesh in 1972:

    Bajaur Agency
    Mohmand Agency
    Khyber Agency
    Frontier Region Peshawar
    Frontier Region Kohat
    Orakzai Agency
    Kurram Agency
    Frontier Region Bannu
    North Waziristan Agency
    Frontier Region Lakki Marwat
    Frontier Region Tank
    South Waziristan Agency
    Frontier Region Dera Ismail Khan

My prayer and good wishes are with militancy infested Islamic Republic of Pakistan!!!!

    INDIA: S@X WITH COWS
In many Hindu temples there are sculptures depicting men having s@x not only with men but also cows. What is the meaning of this? Is not the cow sacred? If it is, then it should be worshipped not s@xually assaulted!

Tragically, in India people are dying of hunger. Why are low caste poor Hindus prohibited from eating beef? People stop their cars, and sit for hours waiting for a cow to clear the roadway, thinking it to be sacred. In India cow meat is cheaper than other available meats. Instead of these Brahmins taking care of the low caste peoples of India, they are doing their best to save their "holy" cows instead. This is evil. According to Valmith's Ramayana, God Rama "ATE" meat. So then "why" have these Brahmins given up beef-eating? It's hypocrisy within their own religion.

Besides emerging as a regional power, the time has come for Pakistan to take the leadership role in the Islamic World and lead them to the path of progress, prosperity and glory. The only nuclear nation in the Islamic World, Pakistan has shown the world that it can stand up to the nuances of world politics on principles and partake in global affairs. Also, that it can equally contribute to the progress of this planet called Earth. The sacrifices of the Pakistani nation in making this world safe are unmatched and deserves a seat at the table of the permanent members of The UN Security Council.

We continue to be of the opinion that India is a zero sum event in history and that a break up of sorts is the optimum way to maximize its potential for the people. The current events in India reinforce our belief that the inevitable implosion of India has begun and the beginning of the end state is upon us. Whether that will be nirvana that most of us believe it will, is yet to be seen. But this we will say. This defragmentation of India will unleash boundless opportunities and uber economic demand that will be beneficial to US and Europe and help pull them out of current recessionary malaise. We pray for the events to unfold peacefully and in a harmonious manner for the people of India and its neighbors.

INDIA: Between two Deities: KALI & PANCHALI

The problem with India is that is built on a system of cultural and societal values based on Hinduism which is a cult. Nations built on a cult seldom survive in the long run. Now just take a look at these two Hindu goddesses and the destruction and lack of morality they represent.

Goddess Kali's statue stands naked astride the inanimate body of the Hindu deity Shiva, tongue stuck out with blood dripping from fang-like teeth. She holds a noose, a skull-topped staff, a blood-encrusted sword and a severed head. Disgusting, to say the least. Would you want your kids growing up with such inspiration?

Meanwhile, goddess Panchali was married to five brothers. Which one would become the legitimate father of his child should she have one? Dr Charles (renowned author and an authority on India) says that instances of incest are common in Hindu scriptures. Decadent ! Immoral !

Talk about being between a b!tch and a tramp!!

It's one thing to remove Iranian Mullah opposing forces from the Terrorist list, but it is also way over due to declare Pakistan as failed State Sponsors of Terrorism. In my free time, I continue to read South Asian nuclear-armed muslim fundamentalist State Pakistan with interest the article presented on New Yark Times that Pakistan is “Too Big To Resolve Islamic Exrimist Threats to the Civilized World” in a socio-politico context. Although experts use this in Extremism sense, its geo-political connotations are indeed powerful. The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) (Pashto: مرکزي قبایلي سیمې; Urdu: قبائلی علاقہ جات) is a semi-autonomous tribal region in the northwest of present-day Pakistan, lying between Afghanistan to the west and north, and the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the east and Balochistan to the south. The FATA comprises seven agencies (tribal districts) and six frontier regions. The territory is almost exclusively inhabited by Pashtun tribes, who also live in the neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan and are Muslims by faith. Empowering subjugated minorities in Pakistani Agencies in FATA by splitting Pakistan into smaller 13 states, would trigger urban economic demand for western nations who have given so much financial and technology aid to Pakistan with no return to show for the investment. I concur with this approach and find the premise to be on solid footing. Central Asian States (CAS) are a case in point on this successful approach. We need to understand that Pakistan has an unmanageable large Sunni population mired in poverty and we are spinning our wheels trying to feed it. It is also too big of a geographical unit to govern and for democracy to take traction. In 2001 the Pakistani military entered the FATA for the first time in history. In 2010, The New America Foundation and Terror Free Tomorrow conducted the first comprehensive public opinion survey in FATA. The results showed that when it came to fighting militancy in the region, the people of FATA overwhelmingly support the Pakistani Taliban, Haqqani Network. Nearly 90 percent opposed the Pakistani military pursuing Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters in the Tribal Areas. Indeed, when asked how FATA should be governed, 79 percent say it should be governed as Independent states. The article interestingly points out the following Pakistan FATA agencies should be split in to independent states.

    Bajaur Agency
    Mohmand Agency
    Khyber Agency
    Frontier Region Peshawar
    Frontier Region Kohat
    Orakzai Agency
    Kurram Agency
    Frontier Region Bannu
    North Waziristan Agency
    Frontier Region Lakki Marwat
    Frontier Region Tank
    South Waziristan Agency

Firstly I don’t think taking them out of the terrorist organisation’s list, politically means much, as when their name was in the list, it didn’t mean much. Due to their opposition to Iran, they were free to do anything in the US as other legitimate groups are allowed to do; soliciting in the streets, lobbying the congress, paying reporters and members of the congress for favourite articles and declaration of support, ... you name a political activity and I will show you their doing. I wished they could be condemned because of their cultic activities, because of ruining life of thousands of their members and their supporters; because of being the main responsible for destruction of life of thousand if not tens of thousands of families and loss of life of tens of thousands of young Iranian. I wish they could be condemned because of brainwashing their almost three thousand present members. I wished there was a law against this new slavery; there was a law against brainwashing and I wished those who talk much about human rights could do something to save MeK’s members who are enslaved under the mind control of the group. However I think taking their name out of the list of terrorist group, though politically meaningless, still will help the group to brainwash its members more than before by claiming a victory and persuading them that now with the support of the US in case of war between the US and Iran, they will be a share holder in the war booty. Therefore it means more brainwashing of members and more enslavement of them, especially it is bad news for those who by moving from camp Ashraf could have a chance to see the reality and free themselves.

HAHAHHAHA, removed the group off terror list since the US now has need of em. The Taliban or Al Qaeda existed long before 9/11 during the soviet invasion the same group the US regarded as Freedom Fighters and dealt with Bin laden first hand. Now they have a need of another proxy in Iran and they conveniently removed them from the list. Mark this day in your calenders ignorant americans cause if this group is responsible for an attack in america just remember who fed em. The US will now finance this group and arm them to their teeth. Talking about not learning anything from history, now repeat it. That terrorist black list or whatever is made for the convenience of need.

The US had unjustly labeled the group in the first place as a sign of good will toward the mullahs of Iran who conditioned the improvement of the relations with the US to banning of their sworn opponents, the MEK. Even now the state department does not hide its dissatisfaction with the decision, but is forced to do it by the order of the court. So it is not a political decision as the policy of the US is still remains the engagement with Iran. Having said that, it is much appreciated that finally Mrs. Clinton made the right decision. Yes there are lots of misinformation about the group, but it was the court who assessed the allegations and made an order in favor of the group.

This is the first step in a US plan to topple the Islamic regime and put the MEK in power in their place. What the State Dept and US Intelligence don't realize is that 1) as hated as the current Islamic regime is by Iranians, the MEK is hated even more, and 2) as ruthless and fanatical as the Islamic regime is, the MEK is even more ruthless, dogmatic and power hungry. As a comparison, some 250 Indians die every day in road accidents. Terrorists killed about six people, on an average, every day in 2009. In the last two decades of economic progress, 10 million girls have died as such in India.

Like every group that we help in the Middle East they will find a way to blame the US for something!! And the reason is we think people will be nice to us if we're nice to them. The real world doesn't work that way. They envy, they lie, and they will not think twice about throwing their friends under the bus.

The MEK is a cult-like terrorist organization. They invented suicide-bombings. They are protected by the US because they plot terrorist attacks in Iran. The US should not be supporting any terrorist organizations even if they are targeting countries we don't like.

Does anybody know if the MEK is a Communist organization? I just saw their symbol on a banner and it looks like the old USSR with minor revisions. All Red, uplifted fist (workers of the world unite) rising from a factory & holding a scythe & a gun. There is a red star above the fist and some other stuff. Looks like old school commies to me.

RSH: I didn’t mention nukes, awynay, I might add. Ok then let me replace USA nuking Iran by USA bombing Iran the way Israel did to Lebanon. In that case I agree with you that USA has the capability to inflict on Iran's infrastructure the same damage that Israel did on Lebanon. And yet Lebanon is alive and kicking.By the way I think Iran will be capable of inflicting a much bigger cost on USA than Hezballah did on Israel. OTOH, the US has seriously considered using nuclear bunker busters against Iranian underground nuclear facilities, even though estimate are that it would kill at least ten thousand Iranians immediately, kill scores of thousands more with radiation, and probably increase deaths from radiation caused disease all the way to Pakistan and India. Which is perhaps why they did not see it as a very viable choice. All countries in the region (including India and Russia) would be EXTREMLY uncomfortable with it (to put it mildly). Not to mention the people who will be working in the oil fields of the neighbouring countries. They can INVADE Iran, they just can’t HOLD Iran. Again that is where we disagree I don't think that they can, just as Israel could not invade Lebanon in 2006. Initially, yes, and depending on their ultimate objectives. One of their ultimate objectives almost certainly is seizing the Khuzestan oil fields right across the border from Iraq. And not only that, the Israel example is not the best example. The Iraq and Afghanistan wars are the best example, because they explicitly are acts of the US. And I don't think that they will be able to invade Khuzestan. None of us has a crystal ball to see the future. So I can't possiblly say that I know for a fact that they can't invade Iran (or Khuzestan). We can only talk about what is more LIKELY to happen.Maybe you are right, maybe Iran's case will be like Afghanistan or Iraq. But I would bet my money on the claim that any US-Iran war will be FAR MORE similar to the Israeli-Lebanese war of 2006 than to the Iraqi invasion of 2003.And this is where we disagree. Again, one must distinguish between those who want hegemony and those who want war profits. It doesn’t matter to these people that US power will be degraded over time. Over time they expect to be dead like everyone else. What they want is money NOW. Those who want war profit HAVE to think of their instrument's (ie. state's) hegemony in this region. If it were about just war profits irrespective of hegemony, then Vietnam should have gone on for ever, US should never consider a deal with Taliban and Israel should not have finished the 2006 war in humiliation; after all the longer the war, the more weapons are used, the more military production and the more profit. And US should be like a mad dog attacking anyone and everyone without considering its opponent's power or the outcome of the war.But this is not happening. There are times when superpowers have to concede and give up despite the fact that going on would create more market for weapon production and war profit. First of all, look at your phrase “sane imperial power”. What’s wrong with this picture? By definition, imperial powers are not sane. Which is why all empires eventually crumble. What I mean by sane imperial power is an imperial power with a goal on its mind with enough reason in its head to see what it is doing is taking it further away from its goal rather than bringing it any closer.

United States is the biggest terrorist in the world. One that has killed more innocent civilians than anyone in the last 100 yrs. Anytime they get in bed with shadowy groups it means trouble, weather it is AQ Jundullah or MEK. They plan to use MEK for exactly what they are a terrorist group. They will be trained to go inside Iran and carry on their killings and spying against Iranians. They are a Cult that go\ as far as killing members who want to leave, They fought Irqi military when asked to move to another camp. The set themselves on fire when pushed or cornered. US went into bed with Al Qaeda to get rid of the Russians in Afghanistan and look what came out of that, 911. Now they are going into bed with MEK to get rid of IR. They will be armed, trained and pushed to start an armed conflict against IR resulting in a civil war with thousands of casualties. They will make Libya and Syria out of Iran with Iranian blood thanks to MEK's revenge seeking terrorist methods. IR in response with label anyone who opposes it part of this newly created network. This is the end of any hope for a home-grown democratic change. Thank you MEK for selling your country to the highest bidder US and Israel and now Saudi Arabia. MEK had an enormous amount of money much of it from Saddam Hossein and much of it from Israel and SA. They used it to buy American politicians and notable figures. They bought their way out of a terrorist list. Americans should be very concerned.

We know who you are. You're an Iranian – and not an Iranian-American, but a resident of Iran. And the reason we know this is because only Iranians who still live there habitually refer to Iran as the IR. In fact, it actually flags you as potentially a member of the government services. So, you can blame yourself that these people have to be moved, because it is at the behest of the Iranian regime that they were slated to be slaughtered by Iraqis, and a number of them have already been killed in military attacks on their camp.

So, I rather hope they do come and bomb your government out of power, if such a thing is possible. Hope they get you first, you apologist for murderers and thugs.

Great outfit: guilty of the murder of numerous Americans and the death penalty awaits anyone that want to leave it: In an interview with RFERL escaped MEK leader Abdul Latif Shardouri (aka Abdollatif Shadvari) who says he had been in the MEK for 25 years stated that his family thought he was dead because he had had no contact with them during those 25 years. "Using the telephone, mobile phone, Internet, and even listening to radio is forbidden in the organization."[104]

The issue is, as [MEK leader Massoud] Rajavi has said many times, whoever wants to escape from Ashraf will be punished with death and execution. Not only me, but many of my friends who are now in Ashraf don't have the possibility to leave the camp. Escape is the only way.

Way to go Hillary – oh, by the way, 1 of the men you released from GITMO was a leader in the Benghazi attack that killed 4 Americans.

We now need to focus on India. The American invasion of Afghanistan brought to the forefront the irrelevance of India as a nation. With a population of over 1.2 billion people there was no value that this nation could bring to the table. Their soldiers (ragtag) 1.2 million continue hiding in the trenches scared from Talibans. A few teenage Talibans invaded the country and held it hostage for days on end showing how useless India is. It was embarrasing for the world to observe this humiliation of a nation that was being touted as a regional power.

We continue to read with interest the thesis presented on CNN that "less is more" in a political context as applied to India. Although Mies Van Der Rohe adopted this in an architectural context, its economic and political connotations are indeed powerful. Empowering subjugated minorities in India by splitting it into smaller states would trigger uber economic demand for western nations who have given so much financial and technology aid to India with no return to show for the investment. We concur with this approach and find the premise to be on solid footing. Central Asian States (CAS) are a case in point on this successful approach. We need to understand that India has an unmanageable large population mired in poverty and we are spinning our wheels trying to feed it. It is also too big of a geographical unit to govern. Again, we saw how a few teenage talibans were able to invade it with a few BB guns. And that says a lot... in a negative way not only for a large unmanageable country like India but also for USA which is trying to prop it up against China. Besides, Americans cannot afford to look like losers in the midst of a terror war which has lasted for over ten years now.

It is no secret that Hitler and his Nazi cronies sought inspiration from Indian extremist groups including the branding of his Nazi Party by adopting the Swastika, a traditionally Hindu symbol and representation of Hindu god Ganesha, as its marketing tool. The thesis being that like the Norwegian massacre the Jewish holocaust orchestrated by Hitler was inspired by the inherently violent cult of Indian Hindus and the manifesto of its then extremist/terrorist groups still in existence today. These groups are now the successors to and carrying out the vision of Al Qaeda all over the world albeit in a clandestine manner.

Even though Iran has been and remains the main sponsor of terrorism in the world, governments buried their heads in the sand for three decades. At last the US administration did the right thing as it was such a contradiction to have the victim's of the mullah's in Iran in a list which the Iranian regime and ALL their officials belong to. Perhaps we can now see the end to the bizarre policy of appeasement in which many governments danced to the tune of the Iranian regime since the 1980s. MEK are the best hope for a free and democratic Iran and let us hope the US will have the courage to acknowledge this fact and side with the aspirations of the Iranian people for change of regime in that country.

Regardless, something must be done with the MEK. They can’t remain in Iraq. The Iraqis don't want them to stay there. If they are sent back to Iran they will most likely be interrogated and imprisoned, possibly executed. Yes, their actions from the past are inexcusable, but they may still be able to redeem themselves, at least partially, by assisting in undermining the current Iranian regime.

America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.

In 1953, America overthrow Iran's democratic government and installed a brutal dictator Shah of Iran. America helped Shah to established secret police and killed hundreds of thousands of Iranians.

During Iran-Iraq war, America helped Saddam Hussein and killed one million Iranians. America is the only country that shot down Iran's civilian air plain and killed all 290 passengers.

In 2003, America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and displaced 4,000,000+ Iraqi people.
Now, America is a failed country with huge debt. Its debt will be 24 trillion by 2015.

Come on guys be logical. By taking this group off the terror list, U.S would then be able to set the groundwork that could help it down the road to topple Iranian regime through the use of this group if Russia and China continue to stand with Iran against any resolution authorizing military action. Just imagine how hipocritical it would be for U.S to be seen to be supplying a group widely known to be actively under the U.S terror list. It would be make the game so obvious that even the most distracted american would decipher the plan. It is a smart move to remove them off the terror list first, then back them. The same thing is going on in Syria. When the conflict there erupted, U.S effort was to do the same thing done in Libya, but when Russia and China stood on its way, Obama resorted to supplying rebel. There seem to be no shortage of other alternative in the event others doesn't work.

We now need to focus on Pakistani Terrorist Groups (PTGs). This week, Mrs. Clinton labeled Pakistan-based terrorist group Haqqani a threat to American interest in the South Asia. She also came close on numerous occasions to label Pakistan a terror sponsoring state, and who was the US policy maker who called Pakistan a "ROGUE STATE". Pakistan with a population of little over 180 million Sunni dominated Muslims, there is no value that this nation could bring to the table, except terrorist threats. Their soldiers (terrorists in army uniform) continued to protect al Qaida and terrorists around the world. Pakistani youths are directionless and committing crimes or turning into terrorists out of frustration. Not a day goes by without hearing some bad news out of Pakistan, be it Taliban attacking Pakistani military bases or politicians going after decent individuals like Ambassador Haqqani, or dishonest like HQ Khan leaking Nuclear secretes to enemies of Israel. With current economic turmoil in the US and Europe, we cannot support this liability country forever on our tax dollars. It's time to break up Pakistan into smaller manageable states.

They have money, remember CIA funded bin laden 3 billion$ to combat the Russians back in the 1980s, in Afghanistan. FYI for u rednecks that aren't aware, this organization is DIFFERENT and thus not the same as the mujahedin in Afghanistan. In fact, there's been numerous organizations throughout the Muslim world calling themselves Mujahedin (I believe this group, is like the 2nd or 3rd one in Iran to call itselfl that). And the only instances of attacks vs. Americans/ American interests took place in the 1970's, when it had no leadership (as it had been executed by the Shah) and revolutionnaries (whether they be religious or merely Marxists) would claim attacks under the banner of the MEK, to gather support (as the group was quite popular in the 1970s, in Iranian society), meaning that it wasn't the structured organization we see today, but rather an underground shady netnwork of guerrilla fighters without any clear leadership and/or fixed ideology. The group emerged into a structured form, following the Revolution, where a viable leadership took form and did not call on attacks on Americans or American interests...

The only way the MEK will ever gain political power in Iran is through an outside invasion. Nobody in Iran would vote them in power. I doubt Iranians will ever forget the group of Iranians that fought for Saddam against their own countrymen, and then acted as a mechanized division of Saddam's army in crushing the Iraqi revolt after the first Persian Gulf war. These people are second only to the current regime in the number of Iranians that they have killed.

Also, very interesting though not suprising is that nobody seems to remember that the Mujahadeen were allies in fighting against the Russians. It was our CIA backing out and letting them get steam rolled that, in part, pre-empted the creation of Al-Queda. Furthermore, continued prodding in that region by our "intelligence" community served to provide the propaganda and outrage machine that is the ruling theocracy....and this is conveniently where the majority seem to pick up in the memory department.

By the logic, or more aptly defined illogic, being espoused in this country we should still be looking for ways to wipe out Germany......

In the past, while US was in Iraq, and guarding the City of Ashraf, we also ran a "defection camp" inside. Only those who claimed political asylum from the MeK with us were allowed to be repatriated. Whenever that happened there would be a story on page 17 of the New York Times about it. Nobody knew what it was, so it was ignored. Now, you are correct, they, as a group, may not be repatriated to a third country if they are on the terrorist list. France is the location of about 500 MeK, including leader Maryam Rajavi, a ruthless leader.

It is outlandish to pretend that the MEK is not a terrorist organization. It has claimed responsibility many times for terrorist attacks in Iran, and of course it has killed Americans in the past. It also took part in the seizure of the American diplomatic hostages in 1980, before it broke with the new Iranian regime and went into exile. And there is no question that it is a cult of personality, a large, wealthy, and especially insidious cult of personality. The fact that it could hire the services of well-connected lobbyists like Rendell means nothing more than that it knows how to manipulate Washington. At a time that the US is trying to convince Iran that it can negotiate in good faith about its nuclear program, it seems especially unwise and tactless to be delisting a notorious terrorist group that has waged a bloody campaign inside Iran.
