Presidential candidates lack military service

Ads touting the candidates' military records have been a staple of Presidential campaigns for decades, but not this year. In fact this is the first time in nearly 70 years that neither Presidential candidate has served in the military. CNN's Chris Lawrence reports on whether it matters in the race.

  1. Joe from CT, not Lieberman

Willard M. Romney kept getting deferrals so he could perform his Missionary service for his Church. His sons have NOT volunteered for any military operation, even when we were not at war with anyone.
Barak H. Obama was too young to serve in Nam, and was considered "too old" for enlistment (as he had no prior service) by the time of our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Given that all Mr. Romney talks about is exercising our military muscles whenever we feel like, and Mr. Obama has brought our troops home from two unbudgeted wars from repeat deployments; and given that our current President has talked about maintaining Veterans' Benefits while Mr. Romney has just talked about cutting programs left and right, I would rather trust our current President than a draft dodger to maintain our military and our veterans.

Must be Joe the plummer.... No one has benefitted from the current administration's agenda. Govt spending out of control, Stimulus was a joke and only helped the CEO's of company's that probably should have failed due to their poor fiscal policies and practices. Don't mistake this rebuff as advocacy for Mitt either.... We need a real grass roots party that can take the US out of this political cesspool and regenerate an American culture.

Why? Did Mr. Obama provide his for the last 20 years? I'm neither Dem or Rep... How about keeping the election to real issues and not bringing our election processes down in IQ.

Military service is a non-issue. The idea that presidents (or candidates) are less likely to go to war is false. Eisenhower and Kennedy both sent troops to Vietnam (both had military backgrounds). Richard Nixon served in WII and may have attempted to undermine negotiations in 1968 that would've potentially ended the Vietnam war. George HW Bush served in WII and used military force to liberate Kuwait. Though George W. Bush never experienced combat, he did serve in the Air National Guard and obviously felt no qualms with using the military in perhaps the most expansive manner since Woodrow Wilson.

I meant to say that the idea that presidents (or candidates) with military service are less likely to use military force is false. Sorry about that.

    CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE!

Congressman Ron Paul's H.R. 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, could come up for a vote at any time! (7/25/2012)

Semper Fi! Military experience is a major PLUS! I think active or guard should be a prerequisite to running for the job of Commander In Chief!.

No wonder these two clowns like war so much since neither has ever been in one!!! Yet both these clowns don't mind starting another war, throwing away the lives of others in the process for political gain. How sickening!!!

Okay, just what is Romney's plan? Nobody knows! Only the same old "trickle down" talk that has never worked! Romney has NO plan for anything! Maybe another war. He supports going to war with Iran for Israel's benefit.
