EXCLUSIVE: Israel's president warns "time is out" for Iran

Time is running out for a diplomatic solution to Western concerns about Iran's nuclear program, Israeli President Shimon Peres said Monday in an interview with CNN.
He said Iran continues to flout the United Nations and world leaders by pushing forward with work on its nuclear program - including, he said, work on a nuclear weapon. But he said Iranian leaders would be making a costly mistake in believing the threat of military action is an empty one.
"You cannot provoke the world, assuming the world is made of fools only," Peres said.
His comments come at the start of talks in Moscow between Iran and the group of nations that have taken the lead on the issue: the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China and Germany. Peres is not attending the meetings.
The International Atomic Energy Agency and Western leaders have expressed concern about Iran's nuclear effort, including its uranium enrichment program and possible work toward a nuclear weapon. Iranian leaders have repeatedly said the work is purely peaceful.
Previous rounds of talks have failed to result in any agreement.
Peres said Western leaders should remain united on the issue and called for the United States to assume the role of "elder statesman" in reaching a solution. He endorsed the strategy of exhausting non-military options, including sanctions, against Iran.
But he said there must be a credible threat of a military strike for those options to be successful.
"If the Iranians will understand seriously that this is an option, maybe we shall not need it," he said. "If they think this is a bluff, then it may lead to a war."
"For that reason, the warning must be credible, the sanctions must be credible," he said. "So let's first of all use the non-military means, indicating to the Iranians, 'Gentlemen, better you agree with a non-military confrontation than look for other options.' "
Iran has pressed for the removal of sanctions, including a ban on oil exports that appears to be exacting a serious toll on Iran's economy. U.S. and other officials have said sanctions must stand.

Shimon Peres: I am not sure that something will happen there for two reasons. A) the Iranians think this is just a warning, That people are not serious enough. And the second is they believe can introduce a split in the coalition that President Obama has built. I don’t think it will happen because the danger is uniting, not the policy. Iran is a real danger
Labott: Do you think the military threat is credible enough?
Peres: If the Iranians will understand seriously that this is an option, maybe we shall not need it. If they think this is a bluff, then it may lead to a war . Peres: I think time is out because they continue to build the bomb. They continue to do things which are contrary to the UN provisions, to the atomic center of Geneva. They build, the provoke. Israel is a little short sighted when it comes to nuclear weapons. Most people do not know that Israel stole their nuclear technology from France and then lied to US and UN investigators. To add insult to injury they have flat out refused to join the Nuclear Non Proliferation treaty. The ONLY nuclear weapons possessing country (they have 400 weapons) to do so except North Korea (they are in good company). For them (Israel) to be the dictator of nuclear doctrine is like Russia trying to dictate the same to the US–absurd!

Israel's first strike would have to be MASSIVE! They cannot win a war against Iran unless they finish them on day one. It's a simple lesson in geography. Iran's population is spread out over a very large area. Israel's population is consentrated in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. A few hundred missiles into that metro area will prove devastating.

Israel has demonstrated the ability to strike quickly and effectively. They will concentrate on gaining air superiority, then pound sites at their liesure. Iran should speak with Jordan and Egypt about Israel's military prowress before engaging in further provocation of Israel.
Israel was less than impressive agains Hamas in 2007. Granted, they were not fighting a country, but they still started and ended in less than stellar fashion. It would be foolish to think that Tehran didn't have a huge number of missiles fused for major population centers, ready to kill millions.

While Isreal could launch a surprise airstrike against Iran, they lack the resources to for a sustained air campaign (i.e. heavy bombers and inflight refueling if heavy bombers) In addition, Isreal could not commit large numbers of ground troops and heavy equipment such as tanks and artillery – How would they get them there? They would never be able to take and hold enough ground for an air lift, and they also would be unable to take and hold an Iranian port long enough to move sufficient military assests to Iran.

ISrael will not use force against Iran unless as a last resort in case there will be no other way to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. If it happens, however, Israel will use enough force to assure that Iran will not be willing or able to launch a counterattack. Israel is not suicidal.

Now when the US sent a regional squad to India to go up against the best India had to offer, India did have some success there. As expected though, the US has far superior pilots and technology so there really is no contest. As was stated in the Red Flag 2008 debriefing "they (India) will not want to go 1v1 against us anytime soon". Do the research yourself and quit living in your fantasy world. The US Air Force is the best in the world and there is no one to dispute that (the Navy would also be the biggest and the best).
Actually, as far as QUALITY goes, the Israeli Air Force is very well the best in the world. The US is only the overall best due to it's size in combination with upper tier quality.
