It's a proud day for the Marine's official mascot Chesty XIII. In a ceremony at the Marines Barracks in Washington, the four-legged Marine was promoted to the rank of sergeant having served as a corporal since May 2010.
"Renowned for his tough, muscular, and aggressive appearance, the English bulldog has been serving as a corporal since May 2010. Sgt. Chesty is always on duty at "the Barracks," motivating spectators and guests at countless performances both here and abroad," according to a Marine statement.
No word on whether Bravo called in a congratulations.

When he gets to a fire hydrant, does he LEFT FACE....PREEESENT..ARMS
Why is it when we see something that is funny or interesting, or the lighter side of the news, we continuously attack it and cut it down? This is so much better to see on CNN then people dying or killing each other or running around on bath salt.
Two other headlines also in the popular headline section: "Amercia needs copyeditors" and "11 words adults just can't spell".
Going a little far to make your point, CNN.
Wow great editorial control CNN. Misspelling the title "Sergeant" right in the headline.
Isn't Sargeant spelled Sergeant?
I don't care what anyone says, I think this is a cute and heartwarming story. The Marine Corps have had a bulldog as a mascot for a long time. Y'all don't have to get so serious about a cute story about a cute dog. Go Devil Dawgs!
Yet more evidence, now a daily occurrence, that CNN is a pale shadow if its former self. Bernie Shaw is rolling over in his, well, I guess his bed since he's still with us.
(Oh, and the button below this entry box says "Publicar" – they can't even figure out what language they're in)
And yet you keep coming back to read the stories.
GAY
Of course you are.
RC, we knew you were in the closet all along, 5itch.
FYI 1) Headlines are written by the editor, not the reporter. 2) Online content can be fixed in about 20 seconds. This is CNN it should have been fixed immediately. Doesn't anyone there read their own stuff. Terrible.
dude, ALL THE TIME with these guys! They should hire me to proofread.
I'm sure that there aren't more important things CNN could report on.....
Maybe they could do a story on you. I bet you are really important and interesting.
Indra is a basement-dwelling emo. next.
It's possible that the writer was more familiar with Sargent Shriver (part of the Kennedy clan) than with the proper military rank.
What's more irritating - even though I'm an Air Force vet and not a Marine - is who the dog is named after...Lt. Gen. Lewis "Chesty" Puller, the most highly decorated US Marine in history.
Argh....let me amend that....it's not irritating that the dog was named after Chesty Puller, it's that the article didn't take the chance to STATE that (sorry...not quite awake yet).
Sam, I'm glad you amended your comment. I agree that the article should have gone into just a little more detail about who Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller was. Also, I agree that the author was probably thinking of Sargent Shriver. When I was a kid and I saw that name, I wondered why grown adults misspelled that so many times.
Editor-
It's 'sergeant', not 'sargeant.'
This generation spells it however they feel at the moment. Remember...There are no winners or losers to them. Everyone gets a trophy just for showing up.
Do you have a twin named David?
Grrr Woof Woof Hery CPL. – get me a cookie !!!!
Nice spelling in the headline; wonder if they know what spell check is. It is sErgeant not sArgeant, the really funny part is that the spelled sergeant correctly in the body of the article.
Hey Mariner, if you're going to busy yourself online criticizing others, best to work on your own failings first. I believe you meant, "...the really funny part is that theY spelled sergeant...", but you messed up. Being imperfect is a pain, isn't it? At least you and the article's author have that in common.
The key difference being, one is a paid Journalist the other is a random commenter. Comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges, it is futile. Don't be so facetious.
Well, I realize this is taking it a step further, but his screen name says "Mainer" and not "Mariner," so this spelling issue is getting to be fun.
@afatalpapercut: We could keep going and going with this, but I won't even begin to point out all of your grammatical errors (And in a two-sentence comment no less!). But to your point: Why should a "random commenter" be excused from using proper English? And "facetious"? You might want to look up that word.
A Mainer is someone from Maine, not a mariner.
I'm just trying to help you out. Are you from Maine but now live in Oklahoma? I'm personally a displaced Patriot since I grew up in MA and now live in a Midwestern state.
You spell sergeant with an e... not an a...
