Crocker: Kabul "pretty secure city"

U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Ryan Crocker talks to CNN's Christiane Amanpour  about the attacks that followed President Obama’s surprise visit to Afghanistan and whether he believes the bombing was a message to the U.S. President.

Crocker calls the attacks "tragic" but he does not believe the attacks were related to the President's visit and Crocker says Kabul is "a pretty normal, pretty secure city."

The full interview airs at 3pET on CNN International.

And if you think it was safe, why did the CinC travel at night and leave at night? We can never win in Afghanistan.

Yes and No; Colombo Sri Lanka had many suicide attacks in Terrorist Tamil Tiger attacks until the war was over but there was a semblance of normalcy there and even international cricket games were played but it was a relatively small area. But in this case it was a symbolic defiant act. I really think no American can dare to advertise himself there. In Sri Lanka Tamil terrorists did not target foreigners only local civilians, VVIPs and Military targets. They took care NOT to harm foreigners. In fact one time when they shelled an airfield the American Ambassador to Sri Lanka, the current Asst. Secy of State for S.Asian Affairs Robert O Blake was injured (very minor) because Tiger Tamils wanted to target Sri Lanka VVIPs and the Airforce Chooper he was traveling in. So their leader Prabakaran (thank god that monster is dead now like Bin Laden is dead)sent a personal note of apology for it. But in Afghanistan, half the people hate us Americans and this guy is just spinning the crap. After all Bush and his merry cronies and their bungle bums could not dare step outside the Imperial Emerald City known as Green Zone and they still cannot travel without fear.
