North Korea's coming satellite launch and the possibility of a nuclear test would both be a "blatant violation" of North Korea's international obligations, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations told CNN's John King in an interview on Monday.
"We have taken the view that these are highly provocative steps," Ambassador Susan Rice said in the interview airing at 6pET on CNN's "John King, USA." "They have nothing to gain and only further isolation to anticipate should they go ahead with this."
Rice said the U.S. is urging China to make sure that message is received in Pyongyang.
"Should they move beyond such a provocative step as a missile launch to a nuclear step, obviously their isolation will only increase," Rice added.

The trouble with N. Korea is not that it has "nothing to gain" but that it has nothing to lose. When a person or a state has nothing to lose, it is more dangerous.
"North Korea's coming satellite launch and the possibility of a nuclear test would both be a "blatant violation" of North Korea's international obligations" - you've gotta be kidding me 🙂
The only obligations N.Korea has, just like any other state, is to defend its sovereignty by all means possible. And they're right by saying that any attempt to intercept the launch or the missile would be treated as an act of war.
Just imagine the U.S. is launching a satellite and devout Jihadists blow it up before launch. Wouldn't the U.S. consider this an act of war on itself?
Double standards everywhere.
I think the U.S. should get a reality check like it had in 9/11.
How is it they have nothing to gain?? They have everything to gain and little to lose. Once they can prove they can do this they can sell the tech to Iran for billions. How is that nothing to gain?
This does not worry me a bit, because as long as they keep sending them up, we will shoot them down!
Nothing to gain except to see how quick we can shoot down their "weather satellite".
It's gonna cost ya North Korea!
Actually by not doing the tests "North Korea has only rice to gain".
They don't need more isolation. They need total occupation.
NK is just showing the “Hawaiian good luck sign” to the Yanks. They learned that from the Pueblo crew more than half a century ago.
N.K. is a Dynastic Governed nation, it,Korea does have a rich and fairly old rich History that even in the south, is remembered and celebrated. A culture that revoles around a form of super nationalism and one in which symbolism, such as appering weak or as aNation that the world looks down upon. N. k. will never want to appear as a Beggar nation and even what we in West take as a Ho/ hum just another missle launch takes on great signifigance. Lost in all the we good they dumb and should be significant, That they opened the launch to any and all world to come and not just view but check out their sciemtific achievement. Yes against worlds demands but not all the intrangent posturing has been on the NK side.
north korea is an arms dealer to many thugs , this will also be for sale if it works.
i think it is in the best interest of china if this kid grew a brain instaed an extension of his ego , the problem here is , is there is another five hundred also on the high of the ego rush.
if this thing were to fold up on the pad it would greatly assist in bringing these idiots back to reality.
this thing has to fail or the power rush will only flame the fire big time.
so is this an iranian ICBM IN TRADE FOR A NUKE ?
many doubt that this is china ICBM. this thing looks ruski
This situation is getting worse , and if they all try to jump on ISREAL , It will draw the U.S. into it also , Isreal has already warned All Muslim countries years ago that they would use nukes if 2 or more muslim countries were to attack them ,
nothing
yeap, they have 100% nothing to gain.
