Pakistan foreign minister: U.S. apology for border strike not enough

Pakistan's foreign minister says an apology by the U.S. government for the NATO airstrike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers would not satisfy the Pakistani government, and the attack demanded a reassessment of Islamabad's partnership with the United States.

"The incident was grave enough for an apology not to be good enough," said Foreign Minster Hina Rabbani Khar in a wide-ranging interview with CNN's Reza Sayah at her home in Islamabad.

"This did require a complete relook at the terms of engagement with the United States of America."

In November, U.S.-Pakistan relations plunged to an all-time low when NATO fighter jets attacked a Pakistani checkpoint near the Afghan border, killing 24 Pakistani soldiers. The U.S. government expressed regret over the incident but has yet to issue a direct apology.

On Monday, Gen. John Allen told Pentagon reporters no U.S. or NATO personnel would be criminally charged but some administrative measure would be taken.

"The investigation was - was clear that there was no criminal dereliction of duty that was found in the investigation. But I did take administrative measures," said Allen, who commands all U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.

President Barack Obama is set to meet with Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday.

This has been the traumatic crisis for me personally, however , seeing a specialized avenue you dealt with that made me to leap over contentment. I'm just happier for this information and as well , pray you find out what a powerful job you were carrying out teaching many people all through your websites. Probably you've never encountered all of us.

Maybe Pakistan should apologize to Afghanistan for wrecking Afghanistan and murdering thousands of Afghans through Pakistan's support of the Taliban and it refusal to control its own tribal border areas. Pakistan is a cesspool of corruption and military war profiteers. Why else was OBL lounging around in Abottabad for years?

This is another way of sayings, Pakistan demands that the payout be increased substantially. Pakistan, over the past few years, has slowly built up a case for increase in US military and economic aid.

Mark my words, nothing will happen to this long and deep relationship. The Americans would increase their aid to pakistan manyfolds in dollar terms in the years to come. This will happen against the back drop of a faltering US-India relations.

well we do not need to be geniuses to know that this afghan mission has gone south and we have lost pakistan in the mix , as i have posted a month ago the iranians are now meeting with the pakistan security services a couple of times a week , and ajunkadud in a speech earlier today in former soviet state tajistan said that pakistan would no longer be willing to aid and support nato and in particular usa.
so the afghan mission is a failure unless the thugs of iran fall.
    and the nuke sites destroyed.

I wish you were a genius, maybe then you would stop posting this nonsense. Pakistan has been trying to serve two masters. They just didn't want to give up all the money and benefits we provided. A friend who uses you for your money, is not really a friend.

Fair enough Pakistan, but please understand, an apology from your country for providing safe haven to thousands of Al Quaeda terrorists and their leader Osama Bin Laden is not enough either. So you lost 24 soldiers in a friendly fire incident.... we've lost hundreds of servicemen and women because you won't address the fact that the most powerful terrorist organization in the world considers your country Home... and lets not forget that part of your intelligence agency is linked to Al Quaeda and Taliban groups... yeh... we owe you an apology? Right.... Once you apologize for all of the above grievances and ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING about it maybe we'll consider sayin we're sorry for killing your troops who, by the way, fired on our forces.
