Report: Education a national security crisis

The U.S. educational system is facing “a national security crisis,” an independent task force has concluded.

“America’s failure to educate is affecting its national security,” said the Independent Task Force on U.S. Education Reform and National Security, which the council launched last year to focus on the problems in K-12 education.

The task force was chaired by former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and former New York City school Chancellor Joel Klein. Problems in education could undermine the country’s cohesion, the two warned.

Lack of COMMON SENSE in the American population is one of the main problems. Nowadays everything is done by the book without considering that every child is a human being NOT a robot and forcing teachers to have "Zero Defects" students by manipulating numbers, reports and data. School administrators trying to implement new educational techniques that DO NOT address the main problems and resulting in the same failing grades but blaming the teachers for the results.

America gets so bent out of shape over education. While I agree we don't have the best education system anymore, you also must understand that our youth are not forced educated as many are in places where students reach higher scores on standardized tests etc. The one reason i do not worry so much about our education system is that it still promotes free thought, the one thing our country has always had over foreign nations, we educate our kids to dream big... you can do anything, be anyone, it is a great concept that is not taught everywhere in the world... because as we should all know... and as Einstein said... imagination is more important than knowledge. If you can dream it, you can make it a reality.... we still lead the world in that category and that's why i think we'll be okay when it comes to education.

We haven't got intelligent unowned leaders now what makes you think the contenders are any different. Especially Romney – he treated his fellow legislators is Mass like they were inferior and inconsequiential think how he is going to feel about the ordinary working American.

I agree with Catamount–for the most part. I think hippie culture is destroying CA but we as a nation lulled ourselves into thinking that we would always be #1 regarding security. I think we basically still are #1, but if we don't take education seriously by revamping national standards for science, math, and engineering, then we can definitely kiss national security goodbye. I never heard of a poem as a national defense, but some mad engineering skills go a long ways towards weapons development. We need to focus kids on STEM and away from humanities. Let CA hippies write poems, sing, and protest. Maybe the generation after Millenials will be more logical....

Catamount, What a sad and despicable person you are!! I really pity you. Even in the 21st century you speak like someone who has never been educated, never been to another country, never stepped fully out of the hole that you crept out of.. Get a life! Celebrate people!

Undermine the country’s cohesion? What cohesion?

Did you miss Sarkozy, Cameron, and Merkel unequivocally proclaiming that multiculturalism has FAILED!? Did you not notice that California ascended to pre eminence in the 1960s as aerospace capital of the world, and then hippies became democrat politicians and turned it into the third world impoverished dump that it is today? Did it slip by that with leftist dominated public education curricula and expansion of the teacher’s union we spend more than any other country on earth to get increasingly worse standardized test results?

The most stable societal model is an ethnically homogenous democracy, like Japan or Finland. The US used to be that. Now we’re not. The least stable societal model is a multiethnic dictatorship, like the former Soviet Union or former Yugoslavia. We are far along in that direction.

Hippie democrat radical egalitarian theory took over, persuading dupes that diversity is strength, everyone is equal but the color of their skin, we are a nation of immigrants, lalala, unicorns and glitter… It’s all crap. Less than half of black males graduate high school. What can you do in America without a HS diploma? Nothing productive. You can live in Section 8 housing on food stamps and social security disability high on medicaid percoset, which record numbers are perfectly happy doing at this moment.

    You reap what you sow.

Actually, our education system is horrible because it's not diverse, jackape. Are you going to sit there and say that standardized testing is multi-ethnic and radically leftist? It's the authoritarian types that are making a business out of the lying textbooks and forcing the fascist pledge of allegiance on children that's destroying any semblance of free thought or creativity.
What's that? A bunch of white guys with power are destroying the nation and the education systems that's at the breaking point is getting yet MORE budget cuts?
You reap what you sow, whitey.

get out of my country, "facist pledge of allegiance" ..... seriously? The US provides you with a home, protection, laws, roads, schools, even worker laws and if you have zero means to support yourself it offers programs for assistance... and you think that pledging allegiance to it's flag is facist, F@#$ you dude. GET OUT of my country, you are a traitor to this nation and should be drug into the streets and shot.

Oooo, got ourselves a live one!

        Whazzzup, Spelunker4Plato! Percoset wearing off?

Facts, man, they hurt sometimes, don’t they?

Fact: White kid in South Dakota costs $6300/year to educate, 82% graduation rate, SAT 550 verbal, 625 math. Black kid in Washington D.C. $28, 170/year, 55% graduation rate (41% black male), SAT 429 verbal, 426 math. Ouch!

Does that hurt your feelings? Are you going to cry?

The objection here is that I don’t reap what I sow. Democrats made this problem, and bitch that you are, you signed up for it soup to nuts: Helpless, needy, dependent, and a reliable voter. A reliable bitch. And they make me pay for it, larceny by taxation. The objection is that there clearly is no correlation between spending and results.

And what’s up with the pejorative “whitey” talk? Are you a black racist PoS?

Nobody wants blacks to be a parasite underclass. We’d all be happier if they supported themselves. Freedom, man. Life’s all about choices, decisions, consequences. We’re all free to succeed or free to fail. Except when you fail you want someone else to keep giving you money you didn’t earn.

i have been around for a long time and I think it is a shame that the word race is still applied to society. There is only one race – the human race. Prejudice is alive and well even though it has been proven useless for anything but disruption and violence. Education is a necessary thing to have progress but the truth of the history of this country should be taught so perhaps we might become the democracy we claim to be. Equal rights/chances to all people is all things.

Alene Feltus, you are the exact “Everyone is equal, unicorns and glitter, lalala” radical egalitarian I am talking about. You are WRONG!

Human isn’t a race, it’s a species – the homo sapiens species. Race groups are humans speciated over 40,000 years of separate genetic evolution, with skin color being only the phenotypic expression or outward appearance of that. Every DNA strand in every cell is 40,000 years of separate genetic evolution DIFFERENT. That includes brain cells. The separation has only stopped the last few hundred years.

Darwin’s theory of natural selection led to Nietsche’s theory of the uebermensch which led to the excesses of Nazism. The excesses of Nazism led to hippies saying, “Nobody is better, we’re all the same, all equal.” That is WRONG!

Depending on the tenets of your religion, we may all have equal value in the eyes of God. The piedmont of the Supreme Court says “Equal Justice under Law.” But we are not all equal in being genetically the same. If you live on earth in 2012 and have failed to observe what barrages your eyes and ears daily, you have no senses. You’re nonsensical. Most politically correct people are nonsensical. Leftists and the weak minded don’t want any facts to conflict with the egalitarian theory, so they repress free speech, the observation of facts.

I will concur with your aspiration for “equal rights/chance”. Then we arrive back at my original point. After equal chance, there will be societal losers, like Spelunker4Plato, clamoring for more handouts. He’s not competitive in modern society, so he votes for redistribution and advantages and government free stuff that someone else is paying for. Hence, THERE IS NO COHESION IN MULTICULTURAL SOCIETIES.
