Obama apology doesn't halt Afghan violence

Afghan rage over the burning of Qurans by NATO troops showed little signs of subsiding Thursday even after a President Barak Obama apologized for the "error."

In a letter delivered to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Obama called the act "inadvertent," Karzai's office and National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday.

"We will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, including holding accountable those responsible," Obama said in the letter delivered by Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan erupted in violent demonstrations since the troops' burning of the Islamic religious material at the beginning of the week. Many feared further unrest Friday, the Islamic holy day.

The President was right by apologizing to Muslims. The burning of their holy book is an insult to all Muslims around the world not just the Taliban Muslims, and who other the the commander and chief of our armed forces should take responsibility and express being sorry to this very sensitive situation.

Muslims around the world welcome the Presidents apologie with the exception of those radical Taliban, and with out our President reaching out to Muslims around the world it would send a bigger more destructive message to them, then the burning of the books it's self.

Where was the Afghan outrage in the bombings of Mosques in Iraq and Pakistan, when other Muslims and Koran's are destroyed. Where is the outrage for the Muslims being killed in Syria by other Syrians? BTW...mature adults apologize for doing something wrong. The Koran's should have been turned over to proper authorities for proper destruction, that said using their destruction to justify wholesale violence and justify the killings of NATO forces who support your government and train your security forces in entirely unacceptable. The President of Afghanistan as a mature adult should apologize for the death of any NATO soldiers killed at the hands of his security forces, which he never does. I agree we need to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible, however Karzai's government would fall within a year and he knows it. We do not want Afghanistan to revert to its former terrorist training ground. Also, what is the Koran's position on a nation becoming the #1 producer of Opium?

Obama apology for koran burning, same as he always does around the world ,kiss the rear of our enemies, and apologize for the usa ,we are always wrong.where is the apology for the killing of our people ,4 so far,for a book burning. if the bible is burned nothing happens, any other religion same.only the koran causes this and we allow it to be ok if they kill because of this ,by apologizing . no one should be killed because of a book of any kind.and we shouldnt apologize in any event ,only shows weakness by our socialist President.evil religion need to burn all of their books

Yeah. You're right. He shouldn't apologize. Just piss them off even more while our troops are in their country. Lets get more of our troops killed unnecessarily.

      p.s.- you're an idiot.

I'm currently in Afghanistan on a FOB in the midst of all this. We can apologize and hope that it's taken sincerely. The commenter above is correct, Islam is not a religion of violence. It has been used as a scapegoat for those that wish harm on Americans and other Westernized Nations. We've got to get out of this country as soon as humanly possible. Osama Bin Laden is dead, isn't that the only reason why we came here in the first place?

I didn't realize that 'anger' is actually a sin. It's said not to be holy in any manner.Anyways, had this thought.Alot of people believe in God.Id say the majority, split into different religions. different peoples have different perceptions of the text. Not hard to understand.Just give a complex memo to 50 people and see if you get exact same answers and explanations.Guessing not, being a very good guess. So with that in mind.Taken literally in Christianity, the only way to the father is through his son. I kinda interpert that to be in the question of......Why haven't the atheists flown a manned spaceship into our sun.I mean anyone that believes in God must be insane? The text meant you have to go through the sun.Anyways, should never mock a persons religious beliefs, even if you understand them completely.

Say what you will, I believe these people will use any excuse to kill an american, a christian or a Jew. They are raised from their mothers womb to kill and be killed . Do I care If their "holy quran" was burned? No, not at all it's just another violent book that should be wiped out of any place because it teaches violence, murder and suicide. Why Americans are still over there is beyond me, I guess they enjoy being martyrs just as much as these people do...GET OUT!!! So Obama says that he is going to hold accountable those responsible for the burning of this book...Are you kidding me??? So what are you going to do Obama??? Decapitate them on live TV? Tomorrow these people will make up another excuse to kill and american, christian or a Jew. Wake up and smell a dose of reality these people thrive on this you've already apologized and didn't accomplish anything. Whats done is done and you can't take it back, I suggest Obama that you leave the people who burned those books alone and stop trying to make murderers happy. And for those who think that my words are harsh then you haven't read there so called "holy quran" On to the next news please.

the Bible describes Biblical holocost when God asks that in order for his chosen people to conquer the Promise Land he orders the Isrealites to "not leave alive anything that breathes...completely destroy them." Deut 20: 16-18

oops. guess it's just another violent book.

I'm sure you have never read the quran yourself and that's why you are passing these hatred comments.Islam and Quran never teaches violence, killings, murders or suicide. The Quran clearly says that killing one innocent person is as killing the whole mankind! Islam nowadays is falsly advertised as religion of terrorism and is depicted in an evil way.Over 1 billion muslims in this world and because of small created extremist groups.....you certainly blame the whole muslim world for this non-sense and violence going on in the world and call all the muslims terrorist. This is what hate is! No religion teaches violence just like Islam.

I say quit playing pity-pat with the terrorist over there and turn out troops lose and let them do the job they were sent there to do in the first place and be done with it. the US should never bow to the likes of these regimes that all they want to do is kill Americans.

i wonder how many bibles burned on 9/11? there was a marriott hotel at the foot of the world trade center that was completely destroyed that day. there is a bible in every room at marriott hotels in the USA. these crazy zealots that dont shower or shave think its worse to burn a koran than kill a human being. we need to get out of afghanistan or stop tip toeing around these fools. the korans were not intentionally burned and these pull starts know it. they are just looking for a reason to murder americans.
