Speaking without the permission of the Army, Lt. Col. Daniel Davis delivers a candid and skeptical look at the progress of the war in Afghanistan, and a sobering assessment of what he sees as the current state of affairs. CNN's Barbara Starr reports.
I have recently started a web site, the information you offer on this site has helped me tremendously. Thank you for all of your time & work.

I do love the way you have framed this specific issue plus it does indeed supply me personally a lot of fodder for thought. Nevertheless, because of just what I have experienced, I really wish when other remarks pile on that men and women continue to be on issue and in no way embark upon a soap box regarding the news of the day. Anyway, thank you for this outstanding point and even though I do not agree with this in totality, I respect the viewpoint.

We're losing a land war in Asia and creating more enemies around the world. Color me surprised. No seriously, paint me orange and slap me purple.
when obama held back door talks with the taliban the hope for afghanistan was flushed into hopelessness, and obama lost all respect by the thugs of the world and syria, iran , and the 19 detained americans in egypy are the result of this along with the fracturing of pakistan and afghanistan, we need someone to take the control wheel as the seat of stability is empty bus because obama is only concerned with re-election
all politicians are only concerned about re-election and election. What we hear from potential candidates is soundbites, no thought, no research, no timelines, no milestones, just pure BS. We have been an empty bus since WWII, driven primarily by consumption. Eventually you consume more than you can produce and you look externally for others to produce your stuff. Then your foreign policy becomes more aggressive to protect your stuff (way of life). Before I would start blaming others for lack of leadership, I would look in the mirror for lack of discipline
well bob b since you said you would look into the mirror for the lack of your disciplines , i wonder do you come up with an answer for your discipline , after all they gave you the boot ,right booby
who's gonna be that leader that doesnt deal with terrorists ? Dont say Ronnie Raygun, he dealed with them from the same door that said we dont deal with terrorists.
We had a guy for 8 long years that didn't have a clue. Obama is cleaning up his mess. It will take decades to finally unto the harm to the world Bush created.
Moral Courage is taught in the military. Very rarely is it exercised.
economic realities are taught in business school (also not widely practiced) and common sense is clearly uncommon
we should publish an idiots guide to foreign policy
Rule1: Do not sell guns to people who do not like you!
Rule2: Do not help overthrow a government that governs a group of waring tribes because the result will be waring tribes
Rule3: Wars are expensive in money borrowed for arms and more expensive in human lives
Rule3: Police yourself before you police anyone else
amen
Thanks for your candor Sir! However I fear now your career is over unfortunatly! Yes they are lying to save their sorry careers, emasculated men hiding behing stars, and big civilian pay checks! Obama get them out and home quick, this is a farce, costing us trillions and lives!
It seems like we never learn. Evry time we get in a war for politicians, we end up on the loosing side, as in Viet Nam. Now a commander -i-chief who has never worn a uniform, is directing our military......when will learn??
This officer sees between the story the government puts out and what is really happening on the ground. Not another life lost. Bring our troops home. now.LET THESE ARMCHAIR WARRIOR CONGRESSMEN FIGHT THESE WARS
This war was lost in 2002.
Soldiers ... don't let fools in Washington, D.C. spend your lives, let them send their own sons and daughters to Afghanistan
if they believe the situation on the ground is improving!
I'm sure our lessons learned are quite similar to the tales told by Russian commanders who fought in Afghanistan.
