Members of Congress have told top Obama administration officials, as well as the head of Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, that Egypt's investigation of and raids on U.S. democracy support groups working in that country could mean the end of U.S. aid to Egypt.
In a Feb. 2 letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, 41 members of Congress urged the administration to withhold further aid to Egypt until the country's leadership lets the offices of those organizations reopen and returns seized property.
The United States sends more than $1.3 billion each year in military aid to Egypt, according to the U.S. State Department. And, since 1975, the U.S. Agency for International Development has provided more than $28 billion in economic and development assistance to Egypt.
Egypt's military leadership has launched an investigation into the U.S.-based International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute and Freedom House, seizing the groups' property and preventing some of their staff members from leaving the country.
"The absence of a quick and satisfactory resolution to this issue will make it increasingly difficult for congressional supporters of a strong U.S.-Egypt bilateral relationship to defend current levels of assistance to Egypt, especially in this climate of budget cuts in Washington," the letter warns.
The lawmakers note that FY 2012 Consolidated Appropriations Act requires that, to receive U.S. aid, the Egyptian government must "support the transition to civilian government, including holding free and fair elections; implementing policies to protect freedom of expression, association and religion; and due process of law."
"The U.S. should withhold certification until these fundamental human rights are protected, which regrettably seems impossible under the present circumstances," the letter states.
State Department officials met Thursday and Friday in Washington with a delegation of senior members of the Egyptian military on a previously scheduled visit and discussed the issue of the American democracy-support groups.
At the State Department briefing Friday, Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner declined to call the discussion a "warning," but added: "It's consistent with what we've been saying, which is that we are seeking every avenue... from the president on down to our regular consultations, to press the points that we want to see the travel restrictions lifted and we want to see the NGO (nongovernmental organizations) issue more broadly addressed."
The incident has strained what has long been a strong relationship between the U.S. and Egyptian militaries. A U.S. defense official told CNN there has been some frustration among U.S. officials that the military-to-military relationship has not been able to affect these issues more.
The U.S. and Egyptian military relationship has been strong not only because of the billions of dollars in aid but because many Egyptian officers have trained in the United States.
"We've let the Egyptians know where we stand," the official said.
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told reporters on Tuesday that he had recently spoken by telephone with Field Marshal Mohamed Tantawi and "conveyed to him the concerns that we have with regards to the treatment of these individuals and the whole NGO issue."
Panetta continued, "He indicated his concern, that he'll do everything he can to try to help on this issue. He obviously has to deal now with the parliament. He has to deal with what is an independent judiciary ... I said, welcome to democracy, because I have the same responsibility to deal with the Congress, and they're concerned about this issue."
He expressed hope that the situation could be resolved soon.
An official said the United States needs to continue giving military aid to the Egyptians because, no matter what kind of government emerges from the election, Egypt's military will still be a pillar of the country and the entire region. The United States needs to maintain its relationship with that military, the official said.

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok if you guys stop the camp david aids we will stop camp david agreement with israel ,simple 🙂
you have to bribe us to keep your bitch safe
That is a good morning news ,it is a good reason to stop camp david shit
you guys should start to think INSIDE YOUR COUNTRY and forget about others
as an egyptian we will push our governemnt to have an alliance with Iran and Turkey russia and china
Our Bitch? nice. Look, I don't want any money going to a military or police that treat's Egypt's people so badly. NGO's tried to register according to their rules, and did everything to be compliant. They purposely allowed them to be in Egypt, but under Hosni, Egypts Dictator – he wouldn't allow them to do it by registering – that way he had the upper hand if he wanted to.
But, you know – I hate giving money to people who on one hand, want democracy – and excel, but on the other hand, criticize those small organizations that help them do it. NGO's are in other counties as well. You think Egypt is so special that it is the only one that has NGO's?? Unless of course, you want to be like Iran. I hope Egypt does well, but saying you hate Israel, or a population does, then cries when Israel finds other gas sources and transportation other then Suez canal is kind of dumb. Your dictators helped keep that immense hate alive because it helped control the people. Dislike Israel for it's policies etc, but get what is going on with Egypt is Egypt's fault, not anyone else's.
Cyberstorm: The US itself admitted supporting these dictators including Husni Mubarak. They let him torture and rape, and murder for decades. Now they say they want to help democracy, and you say you do not want to give money for a military that treats its people badly, then why is the US asking Tantawi for help? He is the head of the military. You make judgments according to the media feed. You did not go to Egypt and see how it is there. How things are run. It is hard to accept that our democratic country helped suppress other people. But the sad truth is it did. Don't forget Abu Garib, and Guantanamo. I love this country. But I am not blind to the catastrophic decisions some of our government has taken for the purpose of national security. If we had not supported so many dictators for so long, the situation in the Middle east would have never reached that level. I don't know if you can put your head on your pillow at night when you know that Women, children, and families are being massacred because of the support our government has given to those dictators. I certainly can't. People in that part of the world are so kind and hospitable no matter how poor they are. They have the right to fight for freedom like everyone else. You would never accept living the kind of life they have. So why force it on them? Would you like someone coming here and dictating to us how to run our country? To understand a race you have to live among them. Do not judge people only on media information. We should read and explore more. Be open that other people are equal to us. Sadly I feel prejudice still exists in the US in a big way. There is too much resentment and hate. On the other hand, why give money to Egypt? we are in debt. The US needs that money. We have people here that have a tough time putting food on the table. That is where that money should go. our people. Can you imagine how many people you can save from loosing their home with that kind of money we are giving away? And why are we giving money for. We are on the other side of the Atlantic. Who are we protecting? us? Really doubt it.
the fact that we give these evil mopnsters anything is sick. We bribe them to not hurt isreal. We need to pull all funding to them and let the hate filled nations have at eachother.
Ah, so you paint the brush so wide that all of Egypt ppl are terrible? I dislike what is going on there, but certainly are not monsters – ppl who make comments like that are a big part of the problem.
You said: "A few billion a year for some kind of stability is a lot cheaper than a billion a day to fight a war."
By that logic even these sound sensible right?
a) Paying the SOMALI PIRATES a few millions to prevent losses in material & lives?
b) Paying ransom to terrorists?
c) Paying terrorist supporting Pakistan to prevent them from handing over nukes to their brethren, and to control their ORCHESTRATED KILLINGS OF OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS to few 10's-100's of soldiers each month as opposed to a few 1000's?
d) Let IMAM FAIZAL build the GROUND ZERO VICTORY MOSQUE to prevent the Muslim world from exploding in anger (as Imam Rauf, and CNN's own Mr.FAREED ZAKARIA have said) – inciidentally we already did that with them HOODWINKING Americans by renaming the Mosque an INTER-FAITH CENTER!
e) Or in the words of distinguished(!) Prof.Mohammed Ayoob of Michigan State Univ. allow the Iranians to develop NUKES to prevent billions on a war
your math is based on facts both supported by present and past history.
AMERIKA SUCKS MUSLIM COCK.
I think it's the other way around Muhammad, if you hate us so much, why do you need our money?
IIsrael is Gods Chosen .Go against them, see how long we last!
I hope you're simply being facetious, because if you're not – blow me!
By the way......It's "Israel".
hitler was a bad bad man, but he had one thing right THE JEWS
wow, so many people post here say the dumbest things to each other. You, are definitely up there on the list of nuts
pres obama is seen as a guy that talks with the taliban, iran quickly seen how weak he is and russia is now telling obama this is the way it is and the people of syria and egypt are dieing because of obamas weakness. bush and cheney were wrong but obama is shamefull. taking on bad guys in small pockets is not brave obama .
And still your inane banter continues.
The problem with trash reporting such as this; it mentions the letter and never lets you see the entire transcript of said letter, thus, allowing the BS reporting to be tainted towards the feelings of the reporter. News is no longer news – it is a tool to get the American Public (AKA Sheep) to believe that which is said without presenting actual evidence of what was reported.... Nameless sources..... Letters mentioned but not presented for review.... simply put: TRASH REPORTING....
You are not suggesting that ... when there is NO NEW NEWS on a topic, reporters just make stuff up to pass the time and put people on thir edge? Why... why thats downright CRAZZY.

Ha. Money America doesn't have in the first place! Vote Ron Paul.
Whats old Ronald Mcdoanld going to do...................
Make you a shitburger and ram it down your fucking idiot throat, in front of your inbred spawn.
If you REALLY think the US Governement is Broke, your sadly mistaken outside of logical thought.
There is enough wealth in the US goverments holding to cover all of its' debt. Why would they disclose to you or I how much wealth it really has when it can decoy the world in another direction to mislead it. Playing possum is a genious tactic- to make one believe you are at another status so they can always miscalculate you true position and capibility.
If you can fool your own people, you can fool everyone else too outside your borders with ease.
The rest of the world is nowhere as stupid or as gullible as the American public.
Bank on it.
It is disgusting to give any enemy of the US money. If Egypt is definitely an enemy.
but the zionests need there way or they cry anti-semitism.
Egypt is not an enemy. They are merely people fighting for freedom. People there do not hate us. They hate what our government is doing. Not only people in the middle east feel that way, but Europeans too. Unfortunately we have a reputation of being arrogant, and putting our noses where they do not belong. The US has bases every where in the world. I think during those past decades we have been an empire, and now we are losing hold over the countries we have have been occupying. historically speaking that is the fate of any empire.
Don't think anything of it, we only have to borrow 520 million of the 1.3 billion from the Chinese so we can act like we have all the money in the world. Do you people run your own finances that way?
Reza Esfandiari says:February 5, 2011 at 8:18 am There are too many vested itenrests in the preservation of the ruling regime for it to fall. I agree with you that the army is fully entrenched and what is likely is for a change of stooges at the top at best. However, Richard is right. In my self-appointed role of Class Prefect (mobser-e kelaas) in addition to Class Clown, of course I need to ask you to extend your hand and get it whacked by my virtual ruler for having too positive a position. Unknown Unknowns are highly active. Of course, it is possible that in His wisdom, He who writes teh script and controls the Reality Studio (as opposed to the Hollywood studios, which are controlled by another force entirely) wishes to embarras and humiliate (rosvaa kardan) the Arrogance of Global Powers, and so, Egyptians and indeed the whole world might be made to wait another chapter or two (yet another generation or two) before the curtain falls on this daemonic Drama (Shaytan-e Bozorg!). BUT, we know He likes surprises, that He likes to play Hide and Seek, and that He likes to make deals. So, if you you make a deal with Him to let the curtain fall now rather than later, and Richard does not make a deal with Him at all (lest he be considered human, God forbid), it is possible that the locus of your consciousness will end up in a multiverse where the beoble of Egypt, through a miraculous and glorious plot twist, and victorious, and Richard end up in a universe that is expanding further and further away from the light and heat of the rays of the Sun.May all of humanity draw closer to the light and warmth of God. Ameen.
End all foreign aid immediately. Feed and house Americans first.
Right on. We already send money overseas. Individuals do. Illegals do: It's the main source of income for many countries. Individuals can send money to Israeli "charities" and deduct from their income taxes.

The Egyptian Army will never loose US bribe payments. The US war monger contractors and and their Republicans will never stand for it. The threat is mere window dressing to calm you and me.
Democracy was developed only another way to manage public opinion, after people rebelled against kinship. Benefit to the public is never considered, just talked about. Why are we always so anxious to vote one president out and a new one full of the same old promises in. Yes we have some nice roads, etc, because they facilitate commerce and thus generate tax revenue which supports military, bribe aid, and US bond underwriting fees and bond interest designed to make our lovely bankers rich. Do we benefit from this equation?
Patty Bird – You left out "It's Bush's fault!" No problem. Don't mention it.
Everyone knows it wasn't Bush's fault; it was Cheney's fault because he ran the operation.
The US citizens should demand an end to all aid to foreign countries so they can take care of themselves. That place is a mess.
Why are they getting OUR money in the first place...let the other raghead countries take care of them...
The US is running out of evil regimes to prop-up.
...and friends to buy as well.
They are getting money because the US is trying to buy the Egyptian Government. the US wants another US puppet like Mubarak in charge. The US doesn't want a democracy to get going in Egypt.
May a500 camels leave dark anal marks on the face of your first born
Is it still 'U.S. aid' if we borrow the money from China?
we only borrow 40% so we can look big on the block.
The aid to Egypt was apart of the peace treaty that the US brokered between Israel and Egypt. No money = More war....
good, isreal deserves a lot of war.
that money was bribe money to the regime of Sadat, and Mubarak.
The guy in the picture would look better with one of those thingys on that would make him look like a cobra 😛
We still have hungry people and homeless people right here in this country. Why the #@$% are we giving Egypt money??
I agree absolutely with that. It is outrageous that we send billions abroad when schools are closing, children are hungry, and seniors have to choose between medicine or food. Charity begins at home!
US Aid to Egypt and Israel are cornerstones of the Camp David Accord that stabilized that region and protected Israel. What a disaster it would be to dismantle this – especially when the Arab Spring has brought so much chaos and volatility to the region.
We actually give Israel approximately $2300 per person, when all the hidden aid is counted in. I dislike Israeli policies because they are holding an entire people captive – imagine if we had left the French occupied by the Germans all this time since WWII? They avoid making peace, and provoke conflict to keep the aid coming, and the militants in power in Israel. They dictate our foreign policy through buying our politicians. They are a superpower in the region through an arms race that we empower, because we sell sensitive equipment to Saudis when we sell same to Israel, and we pay off the Egyptian military a portion of whatever we allocate to Israel so that they don't attack Israel. In the meantime Israel continues to abuse the Palestinian population, and fund and support illegal settlers, after just ignoring our requests not to, and thus making us a world laughing stock. How did we get blackmailed into such a position. As Gen. Petraeus said, the blind support of certain of our politicians for Israel is going to limit our options in the future, and get us into trouble. What would happen to Israel if we cut back our support is that it would have to do a reality check, and start using diplomacy and commercial ties to make friends with its neighbors, and get its population to start looking at living with Palestinians. In addition, it would have to start upgrading the Palestinian standard of living, and use their talents to help develop the country. There are already Israelis and Palestinians who work together, instead of criminalising these groups, the government should strengthen them, and learn from them. It can be done. Extremists and militants in both societies can gradually be marginalised. The other Arab states will no longer have the excuse of the Palestinian malnutrition and abuse by Israel, and will have to deal with the demands of their own populations, wich need not be a threat to Israel. If Israel continues to become a fanatical religious state, with full citizenship for Jews only, then they are leading the way into sectarian warfare in the region. The US needs to stay out of this.
You make some strong points – but. Your thesis is based on the assumption of a lack of malice in the Muslim world. As if they need an excuse to hate Israel. There are too many leaders in that part of the world who maintain their power by holding up Israel as a pocket of European colonization in holy lands, and an enemy that must be destroyed at all costs, regardless of what they do. You imply that if the Israelis played nice with the Palestinians, then the Iranians would play nice with Israel.
You're absolutely right.
This reply is to Chris Austin – there is malice among Christians and Jews towards any Muslims too. I have been criticised, ostracised, abused and threatened with death for friendships with Christian and Muslim Arabs. Apparently I am not supposed to even talk to them, nevermind socialise. Muslims and Jews use each other as bogeyman to keep their minions in order. This will continue, but the discourse is getting messier with the Arab Spring. The Egyptian army is likely to allow the Islamists to have power because they will co-exist against the forces of "chaos" – those for an open society. The Islamists might have to curb their platform (Salafis never will) - we shall see. But if the Palestinian issue was resolved and new configuration of diplomacy and trade, I think that it would show that Israel is interested in being a part of the near east, not its master, and it could undercut the argument of western colonization, which of course Israel at present is. Muslim society is not monolithic. The big issue is often economic – getting jobs and housing and healthcare, and the Islamists do it too well. Change will not happen overnight, but with political will things can change and give more options for the future. Moderate Muslims find it hard to deliver while Israel is still ruling malnourished and helpless Palestinian entity. If Israel were to market itself as wanting to work with moderate Muslims, it would give the latter a boost and they can promote Islam as more peaceful and welcoming that the Wahhabis. It is not clear cut, I know, and of course the macho types that rule Israel would not go for it, but they way it is headed now is for catastrophe, and maybe including us.
It's a pillar of our foreign policy to arm, train and give aid to the enemy until we are actually at war with them. Aid to all Muslim countries must continue....
AS Democrat as I am, I seriously think foreign aid is a good place to cut in these times of belt-tightening. Avoid cuts to our own programs by pulling back funds to other countries- we need to care for our own first.
What an awesome ebswite & articles for my sore eyes to read! Truth is here..Civilian militia has always been necessary in my opinion. Necessary as self-defense against those who dare conspire to take my or my loved ones, my neighbors lives. And by neighbors, I don't just mean down the street My heart goes out to the military! I began hearing many things during Viet Nam which was for me, up to that point in my young life unthinkable carnage running our morale down tremendously. As more unfolded supporting the stories, I digested what I could as I could. I had concerns, deep concerns. And no misgivings about where the ungodly commands for blood-letting were trickling down from here in the states. There wasn't room nor time for fear then or now. Shock yes, fear, no. We can't put what we know back into the toothpaste tube. What fools would even want to? More lessons learned on that score. The only difference tween then & today is the increased excelleration; the net tightening. Have been spritually & psychologically preparing over the years and I'm not alone.Am appreciative of all those who've helped put this site together.God bless.
when I saw the headline I thought Ron Paul had carried Nevada.
Great job Comrade Obama and the liberals in supporting this "revolution" in Egypt to establish a "free" government which is now radical Muslim and hates the US and Israel plus made the whole region more unstable. Great job Obama!!! And now keep up the BS with Syria to screw up that country too and help Iran. You already handed Libya to them so why not give them more. Keep up the great work, fool
You probably want to do some fact checking before you run the risk of anyone that knows you realizing how completely ignorant you are. I'm just sayin.
How about you keep yourself from embarrassment if you don't know what's going on? Is hate driving you to keep saying whatever?
All foreign aid to Muslim countries should have cut off on 9/11.
All Oil and Trillions of dollars investments in the U.S should have cut-off...it takes 2 to tango my friend.
Since when have the people of the middle east (including Israel) not been wiling to sell their mothers if the price was right? Do you honestly think any of those countries would stop selling oil to the west? China can't use it all, that's been shown the last time gas prices were overinflated.
you forget, we could fully open up the US oil reserve (largest on earth) for 10 years, then all of the arab nations would starve to death, then we could go back in and take all of there resoeces. There is no reason to bargen with them, we need to flat out take what we want from them and if they dont like it, nuke there crazy thiest asses to dust.
Cut off the aid NOW. Egyptians can't stand us anyway and we get the blame for EVERYTHING that goes wrong in that country. Let the Muslim Brotherhood provide answers for their security!!!!!!!!!! 1.3 Billion spent in the USA is better served anyway.
What is wrong with the bureaucrats in DC? $1.3B in aid is needed right here at home and not abroad in a state that does not like what the US and democracy stand for.
If they cut off aid to Egypt, they should cut off aid to Israel as well. That would be technically abiding by the Camp David deal of equal aid. Personally, I think that would be a wonderful idea. Deposit the saved money into the Social Security account.
The aid to the Egyptian army is forced on us by the American Jewish Lobby to buy Egypt's peace with Israel. Israel was placed there to create a center of conflict with two purposes: to force up oil prices to support US $ as the international trade currency and generate business for American defense contractors. Then Iran was set up as Israel's public enemy to provide conflict to create market uncertainty to force up not only it's own oil prices, but those of all American Oil companies and generate more military business. When needed, the American military helps Iran run up oil prices by making noises to oppose Iran's bluster. Who pays? American public, just as we paid for the banking crisis thru higher credit card interest. In the background, Iran Intelligence does jobs for the Americans and Israel when neither want to get their hands dirty. The American government reps live on bribes and call it democracy, but no lobbies rep the people. The democracy is a sham as is all of the above. Who are the idiots here?
I don't believe you could sell that script to any movie maker. This is by far the dumbest thing I have ever read.
sorry debster, but its very close to the truth... Israel plays us like a cheap whore... its called The Jewish American Lobby... just look around and pay attention, you'll figure it out sooner or later.... hopefully before they drag us into another war...
And you are an alien from the planet Zuperidiet. Slit your wrist – you'll see you have black blood and there's even a microprocessor in there that is controlling your thoughts. Its true!
You have a good point
We know we can,t cut off that Aid,if we do that will mean very big trouble for our masters the Jews.
Yes we can and should cut off that aid. I understand your concern with a Jewish agenda, but as an American I trust JEWS more so than Muslims.
thats a pretty broad racist thing to say about every single jewish person, dont you think? too bad you think this way
What "agenda" – Jews are as divided as Catholics. Even in Israel they're extremely divided along religious and nationalistic lines. Only an idiot or a hater makes up stories about some slithering fungus among the poeple that has some mysterious agenda. How about this? McDonalds is putting miniture microprocessors in their hamburgers which are trying to control our minds. A secret group of anti-abordionists is doing this. But why? I assign you to the task of spending 5 years to figure it out, moron
How convenient. We are the croquening empire with 1000 bases all over the world and soldiers parked in almost every nation. Its like a game of Risk. We harass, covet and steal resources, we overthrow democratic govts and support dictators and when they complain or fight back a little, we declare War on Terror and pass the (un)Patriot Act and then anything goes. Cheney took that as his God given right to run kidnapping and assassination all over the world. Then we have secrets prisons and we torture people, knowing full well that never works. But I guess some people must enjoy that. Some day theyll make movies about this atrocious behavior and some will be embarrassed while others still wont get it.
Thanks for all your valuable work on this site. Betty relaly likes engaging in investigations and it's relaly easy to understand why. We learn all relating to the dynamic means you offer vital tips and hints via the blog and as well as strongly encourage response from some other people on that situation while our own girl is always starting to learn a lot of things. Take advantage of the rest of the new year. You are performing a pretty cool job.
Its time for a hard standard policy for military and economic aid. Share and implement our values or go away and do your own thing. This policy should also be equally enforced in aspect to trade agreements and the status of multinational corporations that claim to be American Corporations.
I have a better idea. Stop the aid no matter what happens. Get our people out of there and let the Egyptians figure out their own destiny.
Why the gd d@m h311 are we sending military aid to BOTH Egypt AND Israel? That money is not the property of the U.S. government to blow. It belongs to the People of the Uniteds States. We have no business throwing gas on the fires of the middle east.
Unleash the Israelis and whatever happens over there happens.
Get the pipeline from Canada, start offshore drilling, continue to develop alternative energy, and get the h311 out of the middle east alltogether.
Dude, you're much too rational. The mentally dented, fat cats in D.C. never use logic. Warmongering is the name of their game.
Egyptians needs to strictly adhere to Camp David and all democratic reforms or we should cut them off.
As for developing alternative energy, it would be an counter-productive to "drill baby drill" to reduce cost and increase demand for oil when the investment in alternative energy will only happen to any significant degree when oil/gas prices go up significantly. That is Economics 1A. Terminate or significantly reduce tax breaks for oil exploration and offset such with more tax breaks for alternative energy to stimulate essential investment. Duh.
How about Istrael strictly adhering to Camp david and , for only one thing, stopping and dismantling settlements?
My wife and i got quite joyous when John could do his oremwohk via the precious recommendations he acquired when using the web page. It's not at all simplistic to just continually be releasing key points that many men and women may have been making money from. And we all realize we need you to appreciate for that. Most of the explanations you made, the straightforward blog navigation, the friendships your site make it easier to create it's got mostly wonderful, and it's really assisting our son in addition to us know that this idea is excellent, and that's incredibly vital. Many thanks for the whole thing!
1.3 billion to a country who couldn't care less if we all died to increase their military strength. Which mentally deficient politicians worked out that awesome deal?
The oik from the Canadian oil sand is too dirty to be sold in the US. Thus it is bypassing closer US refineries and being sent to the Gulf for export. Has nobody told you about that?
Amen, Mr. Douglas!
Cut them off once and for all.
AID! The only aid should be in bullets. NO aid for anyone that is not an American!
Absolutely nuts how the US spends money, and forces cuts domestically.
The U.S. is broke and trying to cut benefits to our elderly and we are sending billions to support other countries. Our politicians are the dumbest people on earth.
If they're so dumb, why are we all so poor while they just keep getting richer? I'd say the stupidity starts at the voting booth.
It is time to let these countries of oppression die out! The US should support the dissidents who want to overthrow the governments. The US should deny all travel to these countries. You go ... you don't reenter the US.
How nice of the US government to send "more than $1.3 billion each year in military aid to Egypt."
Since we are doing so good in the US, I'm sure we can't find anything to spend "more than $1.3 billion each year" on here, right? We don't have any unemployment. We don't have 25%+ of our own children living in poverty. We don't have bridges and roads that need to be repaired. We don't have vets living on the streets. We don't have homeless shelters overflowing with families. I'm glad things are so perfect here in the US that we can fund another country's military.
$1.3 billion doesn't seem that outrageous for a country which helps keep us safe in the region, versus spending trillions invading and going to war with a country that had been able to keep Iran at bay. Call me crazy.
Crazy! They don't do anything for the US but take our money and laugh behind our back.
and yell alahu akbar and preach against the bad western influence.... while they beat their wives and mutilate their daughters so they can't enjoy s*x
We make sure a portion of the population lives in poverty specifically to provide a pool of people with no future which then become recruits for our military who promises college tuition fully knowing the will never have to pay it. Ever wondered why the recruiting centers are always in poor areas?
Patty bird, I dont know wether you guy or girl, young or old white or none white, But I do admire your knowing it all, that's exactly how US thinks, at home and abroad, the jews thinks they came home biblicly, but tha't not true, they were put there to keep arabs at bay., I could go on and on,,,,, But the thing is not too many american know, what you know, I say about 90% of americans are super dump, when comes to US domestic and foriegn policy. thank U patty bird.
That is so true Patty!
1st, the AID is part of the camp David agreement through which Egypt maintains Peace with Israel in return for the 1.3 billion aid and is not conditional upon any other conduct. 2nd, this aid goes to the US Arms industry anyway and is not cash flowing into Egypt, 3rd) We do NOT need this AID to start with. Finally, would the USA or Europe agree to have Saudi Arabia or any other Country throw millions of Dollars at internal organization to cause havoc or interfere with the way their governments conduct their business?
This is unbelievable hypocrisy.
Why is it unbelievable?
It wasn't any different under Ottomans or Romans, why would it be different under Americans?
First, you are correct that the money is tied to peace in the region, which is a a form of extortion – send us your money and we will not attack Israel. It is somewhat like the Mafia, or, the Barbary Pirates who conincidently were Muslim.
Second, the money that goes to the arms industry still comes from somewhere – the American taxpayers. It is a cash cow for big industry. They make weapons for Egypt or wherever, and the government pays for them. Wonderful. It is a waste of Taxpayer dollars lining the pockets of big business.
Third, the American People would be veeeeerrrrrry pleased to have the 1.2 billion that is sent to Egypt as well as the billions that are sent to Israel, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and every other extortionist government in the world. It would absolutely help our citizens, and, after all, it is THEIR money, not anyone elses. Not even the American government's.
I don't agree that the US should stop all aid to all countries...I do agree we need to stop aid to Pakistan and Egypt.Pakistan was hiding and protecting OB. Egypt has turned into A military/ police state and the people don't stand a chance against the 2 pillars of power. America needs to decide who's side we are on. we kept Mubarak in power for 30 years and we saw what happened with that friendship. We continue to send money to Egypt...Hoping for different result s. If we REALLY want change in that Part of the world we must begin to support the people and Not the regimes that have created this mess to begin with. Do we really want change?
The American govt is very foolish to continue with foreign aid. After all it is not their money, it is mostly the working America's money. Foreign aid makes a substancial cost to our growing debt and deficit spending. When are the American people ever going to wake up to the fact that this country is on a collision course to financial ruin? I am talking about a major train wreck if this nightmare continues!
It is actually printed-paper fiat currency, it isn't real money, either from working stiffs or from anyone else.
Mostly they don't even bother to print it; there is only enough physical currency for ~47% of the total amount in accounts.
They just make it all up.
American policy: If you can't make friends, BUY some! ...even of you have to borrow the money.
Living in South Dekalb County in Georgia, I resent tax deductions assisting King Eddie Long.
Do you think we can cut off the Welfare we send to Da Zionist Jooz for what they are doing to the Palestinians? That would be so nice aside from the fact that it is the RIGHT THING TO DO TO TERRORISTS.
Go back to that closet full of Nazi paraphenalia, troll!
This is getting a bit more sibuectjve, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
"Da Zionist Jooz? OK, we know where you're coming from. You have it backwards though, the Jews are the good guys, the Pals are the terrorists. Israel protects their citizens from your 'innocent' Pals, and they're the terrorists in your mind. It wasn't "Da Zionist Jooz" that flew planes into the WTC, it was Arab terrorists. You know, like your Pali buddies.
listen you moron, nobody flew nothing in, in no buildings I can tell you this as none jew or arabs, That was part of US policy to invade and contro the world, 911 was a inside job.
Military aid to Egypt shoud cease and some development aid begun.
The country we really need to cut off is Pakistan. Why are they getting our hard earned tax $$? The average citizen wants to disown them.
The US ended its Iraq and is ending its Afgan war as it gets ready for a new war, apparently coming this summer when the clouds clear over the Middle East. Stay tuned.
Keep sending my tax money to Muslims.
What would happen if we stopped bribing the bribable thugs?
they will starve their own people and people around the world will get angry at the selfish American for not handing out the free money.
Wow with friends like that!
USA is the only country that keep sending tons of money under the term of "aid" to enemies of the country and its people. Money can't buy friendship. Don't the White House and State department know this?
The US is being held hostage and has been for years from ALL aid recipients. If we don't GIVE them and SUPPORT them with billions of dollars to be our FRIENDS they won't play with us in the One World Order scheme.
What is the US afraid of, not having friends? The US has gotten itself in a real predicament allowing other countries to dictate "Pay us money or we won't be friendly to you". This is not an easy position to get out of and ALL of the aid recipient countries know this. We are being slowly bankrupt by these countries; this is another facade of war.
Gee I think the people here will use the money in a better way than these "people"
You won't find much love for America in Egypt's media or for that matter in Israels.

you know nothing of aid to any country nor the reason behind the aid given.
If the USA is paying out aid in order to be popular, it's failing. Politically speaking, most nations dislike the USA and those that don't tend to regard the USA like a cute joke or eccentric in-law. Paper tiger is the best analogy I've heard in a while.
On an individual level I feel sorry for the common people of Egypt. I know folks over there and the "Average Joe" there is terrified. Nothing is safe there right now; nothing is sacred. Doesn't matter where your politics lie. Just going to the store for a a bag of rice can get you killed – or worse. And there's nothing they can do about it, not even to leave. So sad.
Israel as well as Egypt don't deserve our aid. Christians aren't welcome especially in Israel and increasingly so in Egypt. How can Israel say that they are a democracy and defend their exclusive right to be a Jewish nation. Because if they are a democracy then they no longer are an exclusive Jewish nation. Other than defending Israel as their homeland then their purpose is diminshed because without USA aid they could no longer exist. Are they a democracy?
On the contrary it's time to send them even more plane loads of money (by robbing from hard hit Americans!) to build bridges between the Egyptian people & the West (& in turn the entire Muslim world)
Plz. remember the Egyptian people have lost the ability to govern themselves after years of TYRANNY
Just ask Mr.FAREED ZAKARIA!!!
And, who's responsible:
OFCOURSE the evil imperial empire – the US (plz. check with Mr.FAREED ZAKARIA).
And, Israel – why: for forging a lopsided peace deal between the Egyptian & Israeli REGIMES (NOT peoples). Time to abrogate that. (Once again, check with Mr.ZAKARIA!)
We should cut off AID to all countries in the world. Stop giving it out for a few years and we would not be indebt to China. We are such fools to be caught up in everyones crap. Everyone takes advantage of us. Stop the madness now!
A few billion a year for some kind of stability is a lot cheaper than a billion a day to fight a war. We don't give money away because we need love. It's just cheaper than having to go kick everybody's arse.
Stop giving $$$$ to egypt and other muslim countries.. The money goes to corrupt politicians anyway... The common man is taught to hate USA and human rights is non existance in muslim countries... Just see how women are treated...
STOP the foreign aid! Just goes into pockets of their leaders/politicians (Mubarak, etc) and they still hate us, while USA needs that money to pay down the TRILLIONS in national debt! USA citizens demand a STOP: "The United States sends more than $1.3 billion each year in military aid to Egypt, according to the U.S. State Department. And, since 1975, the U.S. Agency for International Development has provided more than $28 billion in economic and development assistance to Egypt."
thats total BS, israel is doing the exact same thing with the NGO's and we in the USA are looking the other way, and still kissing jew ass
phentermine appetite spasresupnt Very good text. I've found your blog via Bing and I'm really happy about the information you provide in your posts. Btw your blogs layout is really broken on the Chrome browser. Would be really great if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the good wor
Hi from Chicago!! I am just bored (blank) (blank) in labor thus i made a decision to read your blog post on my tltile iphone 4 during lunch time. I enjoy the knowledge you provide here and also can not wait to take a look when I go back home. Now i am shocked at how speedy the web site loaded on my phone .. I am not even using Wireless, just 3rd generation .. Anyways, excellent blog!
Get rid of Mubarak! Oh, wait.
well why should we support murders , but i think alot of this trouble is supported by putin and iran , syria , egypt , along with the taliban know pres obama is very weak. pres obama may be able to face a small pocket of bad guys but is very weak facing world leaders of oppression. the next player to start acting up is north korea. bush and cheney went to far , but obamas weakness is now being used against the usa.
Is there some justifiable reason for handing Egypt billions of dollars every year? Is America so evil we have to rent our friends? Personally, I'm just not feeling the need.
And they don't even 'pretend' to be friends.
Are there any countries we don't give aid to?
you may not understand how the big bad world really works but you do have to grease other countries with moolaaa if you want them to be your friend instead of the bad guys friend.
They still hate us, and don't even hide the fact. Stop the money! Pay down the national debt, just like is expected of individual credit card holders to pay their bills!
Yes there is one country we don`t give aid to, the United States of America.
Why don't they ever talk of cutting Foreign Aid to Israel? They can't get along with anyone. A Barbra Walter report showed how Israel gets four times per person more US Foreign Aid than any other country. They also refuse to reveal their nuclear weaponry, yet demand others to do so. Serious questions about their influence in US govenment.... not to mention control of publishing, all media, now web sites like Face book. What's up with that??
As a US citizen I would feel 10 times safer visiting Israel than any other aid recipient.
Why do you dislike Israel? They are a small country the size of NJ. What would happen if they were left alone; i.e no one wanted to eliminate them? Perhaps everyone could save some money, not to mention lives. I continually wonder why so many hate them. It isn't rationale.
Why do you think that if we don't give them the promised 3 billion a year and actually support them at $400 per person is anything to do with hate. We have to borrow the money from China to give them aid. Why don't they borrow 3 billion from China.
Should New Jersey be able to create soooooo much trouble in the world.
