Obama defends Israel stance

White House producer Alexander Mooney reports on a defensive president, who has  faced criticism from some quarters that his administration’s support of Israel has been lackluster at best.   President Obama told a gathering of wealthy Jewish supporters Wednesday evening that no other administration has been as committed to the longtime U.S. ally.

“This administration – I try not to pat myself too much on the back – but this administration has done more in terms of the security of the state of Israel than any previous administration,” Obama said at a private high-dollar fundraiser in New York’s upper East Side attended by about 30 people who paid $10,000 each. The event was hosted by Jack Rosen, the chairman of the American Jewish Congress.

Israel is currently hostage to ultra-conservatives with no interest in compromise or rationality. Reminds me of the US... Dealing with Israel means satisfying the political country, the mythical country, the Jews in the US of various opinion and of course the lunatic evangelicals who just can't wait for Israel to re-build the temple in Jerusaelem so it can be destroyed and that whole freak show of Revelations can start working its magic. In the midst of that madness we have Syria, Hezbolla, Iran, Iraq, the Kurds, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and a whole host of independent idiots with guns. Truly, President Obama has done an unbelievable job of containing this can full of nuts. All of us hope that rationality will descend and inspire the world. Until that time, it is important to understand the complete game and not over react to the moment. Violence destroys diplomacy and diplomacy requires a mind. President Obama is clearly on the right path. The question is whether democracy can be a rational form of governance. This is the core issue and I have my doubts. One thing I do not doubt is President Obama's commitment to peace and to peace making.

It is amazing. Obama has never visited Israel during his reign nor has he taken any position that would upset the left-wing rich Jewish suporters. he is all talk and no substance. he ahs campaigned for president for 3 years and will out-campaign Bill Clinton's first term. His popularity among all Jews is the lowest for a democratic president in 60 years
