Analyst: Increased 'chatter' about Norway in recent months

CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank says the Oslo blast has all the hallmarks of a major attack, although the exact cause is not known.

It's too early to draw any conclusions on whether it was terrorism and who would carry it out, says Cruickshank. But, he said, by looking at the extent of the damage, it was plain to see the hallmarks of a major attack.

Cruickshank said that in recent months, there had been increased "chatter" about Norway, which had been investigating militants suspected of being linked to al Qaeda.

Norway also drew the ire of al Qaeda for publishing the controversial political cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed that originally appeared in a Danish newspaper and sparked outrage in the militant Islamic community.

The Scandinavian country also plays a part in NATO's operation in Afghanistan, and now, in Libya.

Norway has been largely spared from terrorism. But last December, an attempted suicide bombing in Stockholm shocked neighboring Sweden.

In July of last year, Norwegian authorities announced the arrests of three suspects in connection with an investigation into terrorist plots in New York and the United Kingdom.

The three were suspected of plotting terrorist attacks and having connections to al Qaeda, the prime minister's office said at the time.

FMS . . .nothing about this is funny! When Muslim clerics threaten violence if they are kicked out of a secular country, they are fascist bullies! Whether in this case or not!!

So as a form of outrage from a comic that states that your religion is based on violence, you kill a bunch of people.
Lets just make it easy. Nuke the middle east and put on radiation gear to collect the oil. We will just state is was completely against our religious values and moral ethic, but we will just do it because we have our own problems and want to blame someone else. It will be less hypocritical that way.

I loved how everyone just jumped and said this was the work of Muslims. Kinda funny that is was one of your own huh. My heart goes out to those poor soles who lost their lives. Bravo CNN..great job on this one. Think before you speak America. Who am I kidding, this is the country where you'll hear more about Bristol Palin's plastic surgery rather than actual news. And Muslims are backwards...amazing...

Free countries have to stand together to fight these terrorists! Free press allows cartoons of just about any religious or political persuasion. These religious, fascist bullies need to be stopped.

You are in our prayers, Norway.

Sorry folks, this horrendous act is not likely a stirke form islamic fundamentals. Without knowing details and motives a 32 year old Norwegian citizen has bee apprehended and is now interregated. Chanse are it has a political motive as it hit the Labour party both places.
Could be that soneone has got tired of a politic that has become more and more like the old communist world.
Sivil rights is taken away and the only obligation that is left is the promise to pay more tax in the future.

Guess we will know the motiv in a couple of days as the arrested person seems to cooperate wiht the police.
One thing seems obvious this must have been a pro with exteded knowledge about explosives and gun handling, would not be surpriced if he is an ex soldier or security pro.
