Kerry makes 11th-hour push on Ukraine

By Elise Labott

Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have practically been joined at the hip in the past week or so.

The two met four times last week in Europe and have been in daily phone contact since. But they have failed to reach common ground on how to solve the crisis in Ukraine over Crimea.

It really looks like 11th hour to midnight. What happens next?

Russians, right now, are in the shoes of Israel and Kiev now acting like Syria or Iran.

Russia might do an Israel. I mean, it is understandable why Kiev is not really eager to shoot it with Russia. But it looks like it is Kiev that will pay if Russia gets a hit in there right now. Yeah, people have the right to defend themselves.

just a nice dream....... on 27th fFbruary, there is a joint invasion of Ukraine by both Obama and Putin, to get rid of the coup-makers, who then would be in Guantanomo base. Yanokovich will return back as the President, U.N. will organize election. Obama and Putin go back to Sochi to participate in the Cossak dance.

Am I to take it Bud, that you don't think that the right-wing thugs in Washington have been aggressive enough or the other way around? Yes, this stupid administration has been truly inept at bringing peace anywhere as more people are being slaughtered in places like Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq.Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the next administration will be any better as there are no decent presidential candidates on the horizon for 2016.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

...while many of your facts are correct... what you fail to point out... is that America has left those countries... they are sovereign... iraq is it's own country, philipinnes are their own country...exc... to say they do not have economic influence in foreign nations would be a lie... so i understand your point and agree with most of it... however the 20th century is over.... yet russia insists on behaving like 1930s europe.... the USdoes not attack it's neigbors ... nor anex them with coersive use of an unmarked army.... (at least not since the 1980s in south america wih the cia... )

Good grief subtle truth, you sound like a Tea Partying idiot. First of all, neither Iraq nor Afghanistan are independent as Noor Maliki of Iraq continues to carry our orders from Washington D.C. and the U.S. is seeking to keep troops in Afghanistan well after this year. Furthermore, did you notice just how the gutless wonders of Europe follow each and every order from Washington to the very letter? I did as this proves just how the right-wing thugs in Washington have become dominant in Europe!!!

Electioneering only provides for one answer never more. A planted illegal Alian population (minority) overthrows and eats another population–in this case the majority poulation in the exact same Country not owned by the invading military force to rape and pillage everthing including any basic needs of the to-be assimalated majority so long as nothing less then everthing is taken.

Putin is not going to back down on Crimea, why should he, he has already won. The western world today is too weak to stop him, he is simply taking advantage of this huge opportunity. Will he stop with taking Crimea? Not likely. Putin's goal is to take all of Ukraine. Now is his chance.

No Stan, it's the other way around. It's Obama and his rubber stamp NATO allies who want to take over Ukraine, not Putin. They're trying to do it without a war since no one in Washington is insane enough to start one!

Good grief, I were John Kerry, I'd resign in sheer protest over Obama's ignominious foreign policies regarding Russia and Ukraine. It does seem to be enough that Obama's having people slaughtered like pigs in a pen with those ungodly drones and Apache helicopters of ours and now he want's to bully the Russians, too!!! How ludicrous!

And our majority of citizens only parrot to others that U.S. global military strength and expansionism and weapons productions and weapons sales will make us safer when instead the opposite is surely true.

And even our most patriotic and brave soldiers will not be able to protect us from our foreign blunders.

And even our most patriotic and brave soldiers will not be able to protect us from those who fear U.S. global military expansionism and from those who covet our sold weapons of mass destruction and from those who despise the arrogance of U.S. actions and its failed foreign policies.

I don't think Putin cares what the US and EU think. We are looking at two different worlds. The US today reminds me of the 60's flower children confronting the reality of the real world and surprised it's not all love and peace.
