U.S. marks 12th Thanksgiving in Afghanistan

It's the 12th Thanksgiving in Afghanistan for US troops. But after 12 years of war, with Afghan corruption still rampant, billions of dollars in aid spent, more than 2,000 troops killed and more than 19,000 wounded, some are asking why don't all the American troops just come home, rather than signing an agreement with Afghanistan that could keep some troops there past 2014. Barbara Starr reports.

"...after 12 years of war, with Afghan corruption still rampant..." - Objection: word "still" is irrelevant and should be striken. Prior to US invasion Taliban government was stictly adhering to Sharia law without any corruption whatsoever. Bribes were unheard of, and opium production was on only 1/40 of the present level. Crooks and infedels were executed right on the spot to set example to the public.

We should have been out of there long ago, Obama has now extended them to 2025 well after he leaves office. Somehow he forgot he was supposed to end the wars not perpetuate them!!! What a Wall Street sellout, first the ACA then the war!!! I want my vote back can I sue Obama for breech of contract???

History is forgotten. In our Cold War mentality of confronting the Soviet Union (Former) wherever they sought to expand their influence, we couldn't allow their takeover of Afghanistan. So we backed the so-called Afghan Freedom Fighters known collectively as the Mujahideen. The Mujahideen were financed and armed by the United States Central Intelligence Agency during the Carter and Reagan administrations. The CIA provided billions of dollars in arms to the Mujahideen to aid them in their fight against the Soviets. After the Soviets withdrew, we lost interest in the Afghanis and the country went literally to hell where a bunch of war lords fought among themselves for power until the Taliban rose up imposing a strict Islamic code to government and killing most of those leaders found corrupt. For various reasons we took the Taliban down and set up a "Democracy" which without our aid will fail. It's in our best interest to continue to keep the radical Islamic groups from kicking out our "Democracy" with all it's cultural and political differences that most Americans can't understand.

A large and well-educated middle class need to exist in a country before democracy can work. Education is extremely lacking and Democracy goes against their views. They are not going to change. Russians tried Communism and it was an utter failure.

Perhaps, but the US didn't start out that way and it's still apparent today....Their is no large and well educated middle class anywhere to be found around here....!

When the Russians were in Afghanistan, they discovered the world's largest copper deposit. Our "democratically elected" Afghan government sold the mining rights to China! US, British and Canadian companies bids were all rejected. China made many promises to win this bid, however China expects the US to provide security. No Chinese military boot will ever step onto Afghan soil! Copper could replace opium as their most valuable resource. Let's see now how much copper ever gets produced!
Sure, the US took its eye off Afghanistan (meaning that George and Dick lost interest because of no oil to be had!). Instead our dynamic duo, at the time, concocted numerous lies and fairy tales to justify invading Iraq! Dick even told us that the Iraq war would be "revenue neutral"! Cheap Iraqi oil would pay all the bills! That worked out well, didn't it? Again, China gets the oil! Again, our "democratically elected" government in Iraq failed us. Now Iraq is descending into a dangerous situation. Civil war is imminent.

You can now see in America the death of the American dream at the hands of the Militants, Capitalist pigs & their legal staffs (just too name a few). Make no mistake this fact translates into: when the day comes that a gun carrying invading military sets foot on U.S. (invades) the "so-called" Americans will first go on Vacation too Israel then who ever is left will not fight or fight back because it is just not how "they" were raised or "it" is not in "their" "reality" (training ect.) too fight...and guess what is left e.g. the illegal alians and militant lobbyests will slide away into their dark corners and do what they have always done...i.e. nothing good...and the Rapers & rock-stars will be still be performing except now "they" will be performing not in the U.S. but instead "they" will be performing in the "next" would-be invading Countries homeland or more likely worse.

Today "We" give thanks–that "people in and around Government" are completely incapable of doing/accomplishing the real & right thing in any lasting way.

The U.S. is not a Super-power because the U.S. is absolutly everything but the U.S. & the Military is hardly domestic.

Our Congress is an Israeli product!! Every elected member of Congress serves Israel first! Ask any member of Congress their opinion of Israel, then ask Obama! For once in our recent history we have a President who does not bow down to all of Israel's demands! If Obama accomplishes nothing else, his miss trust of Israel is worthy of his Nobel Prize!

The U.S. Military has not, does not, & will not protect the U.S. way of life-as it was. Just ask "them" see who gets "911nd" yet again. The invisable hand is not so invisable.

Some are asking we don't bring them home? Some? Other than John Kerry, Hillary, and Susan Rice, just who is it who thinks it is a brilliant idea for the US to beat its head against the wall in Afghanistan for another five years, or one year?

Only an idiot would, Dr. Shepard. We never had any right to be in that country in the first, no matter how many underground mineral resources may be there. It probably would have been better if Afghanistan's home grown Communists would have won that country's civil war early on before the West started aiding and abetting the opposition.

Yes, we marked the 12th aniversary in a country where we have no more right to be in than the Russians had back in the 1980's! At least, the Russians finally wised up and got out after 9 years, unlike those stupid jerks in Washington who want to keep us there indefinitely!
