Graham to keep holds on Obama nominees

By CNN's Jason Seher

Sen. Lindsey Graham vowed on Sunday that he would continue to block President Barack Obama's nominations until Congress hears from Benghazi survivors.

The South Carolina lawmaker told CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union" that he will place holds on any nomination put forth by the administration unless it makes available five survivors of the September 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, who have been interviewed by State Department investigators but remain out of Congress' reach.

"I've been trying for a year to get these interviews without holds," Graham said.

Graham scoffed at any notion his maneuver amounts to political grandstanding, portraying his actions as a last resort and couching them as part of "trying to perform oversight."

"I don't want to hold anybody. All I want to do is talk to the survivors," Graham insisted. "I'm not trying to prosecute a crime."

Graham announced his intention to hold all of Obama’s nominations the day after CBS's "60 Minutes" aired a controversial report on the attacks. The newsmagazine has since pulled its report, saying that its eyewitness, a British contractor stationed in Libya, lied to reporter Lara Logan about what he saw on the ground.

When pressed by Crowley about whether the debunking of the piece would impact his stance, Graham told her it wouldn’t.

"I never asked for the British contractor. I didn't know he existed," Graham said.

Its amazing the amount of energy this guys invest in critisizing Obama despite being one of the most personally scandal free President in American history. A President who personally cooled World fury towards the U.S.A. A President who authorised the killing of some of the deadliest terrorists, highly successful in killing American enemies. Anyway maybe i will never understand the American psyche.

You seem to forget Rufus, that Obama slaughtered far more innocent people than he did the so-called "terrorists" with those ungodly drones and Apache helicopters in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. That makes him just as bad as this Senator from South Carolina who keeps on disgracing this country by representing it!!!

I am not sure why he would be so interested in Bengazi when so little is known about the supposed attacks that happend on American soil. Sure we seen airplanes hitting 2 towers, we seen 2 huge buildings fall on their own footprint afterwards killings around 3,000 US workers. We hear about the insurance pay out and the alleged sudden increase in the amount the property was covered for. But seems so interested in a foreign land that is in their own civil war, and doing everything they can to start one here!

When Republicans invest so much money into making one man look bad, he must be doing something right or you would have left him alone long ago!

It has been widely known that I have been representing three of the survivors since June 2013. Even if Sen. Graham's staff happened to have missed the initial notification, numerous articles since then have quoted me as counsel for several of the Annex's elite security team.

Yet not ONCE has any member of Sen. Graham's staff contacted me concerning my clients. Other congressional members have contacted me. Why not him?

Graham is just showing moreso why he's more of a problem than a solution in government. It's clear over and over that we were betrayed by the libyan government or the host nation security was infiltrated by some jihadist group and they betrayed and attacked us. There's been enough testimony on that from Panetta to Army Chiefs. Yea Obama Administration should be accountable more and more honest about it, especially when it happened. However, restricting appointees to positions that need filled is ridiculous. How are we going to learn from the mistakes of Benghazi if its just being used as a political tool? Benghazi should be used as a very important lesson about being too blind to some of these countries we help and think we have good relations with when the reality is starkly different.

Senator Graham's behavior is exactly why our Government is broken. If he and the "inquiring minds want to know" group know what happen in Benghazi and it's so important that his party has no other issues like "jobs" and "tax restructuring" to concentrate on, no one gets an appointment to an agency or the judiciary regardless of qualifications. No wonder qualified people are going turning away from public service.... The same could be said for the shutdown and debt fiascos. That's why in the future the "best and brightest" won't be found in Washington when we and they are "led and governed" by "stupid and stupider incompetent fools". Sad!

Well said!!! The next presidential election is already being staged as "Dumb against Dumber"! We need serious leaders for our country, not perpetual campaigners. Graham's "noise making" is nothing more than campaigning.
As for Benghazi, Amb. Stevens should not have been in this unprotected outpost to begin with! When his numerous requests for more security went unanswered, he should have left and returned to Tripoli! Congress had cut funding for such "missions" which indirectly lead to this disaster. However, Stevens screwed up! He should have left, but did not!
Why doesn't Graham want to know about Stevens' mission? WE don't know why he was there and why he would not leave.

    Dear Sen. Lindsey Graham,
Where were you when Reagan was our boss (and I was very proud of him) when the bombings took place by Qaddafi . No one did anything to him. In my opinion he was the best Republican bar none since my time. You my Fellow American are part of the problem! You don't know when to quit and start recovering the Republicans so they can begin vetting for someone like Reagan. You have Ted Cruz...Mario Rubio and others who are extremist in your TeaParty Republican issues...Get back to the Real America and you might garner more listeners. Right now with the dark cloud hovering over the only report in which CBS has clearly stated
"CBS's 60 Minutes" aired a controversial report on the attacks. The newsmagazine has since pulled its report, saying that its eyewitness, a British contractor stationed in Libya, lied to reporter Lara Logan about what he saw on the ground." Can you say that some people carry their politics with them 24/7 even in times of war?
The Day and Age of people not being well informed is slowly eroding away and we want a more of a Faithful, Transparent and in touch group of representatives with normal everyday Americans than you and your partisan buddies across both sides of the aisle. We demand it and will show it on each and every vote. Americans are tired of being the piggy bank of corporations...Its time to start paying us back instead of trying to attack the other party & the other party attack you back. In other words...start doing your job looking out for all Americans...Not just the biggest donor. Save the warrantless battles for conspiracy theorist. Republicans and Democrats are both giving Jesse Ventura credence about being the two party dictator system.
