FIRST ON CNN: Sources: U.S. believes Israel has conducted an airstrike into Syria

By Barbara Starr

The United States believes Israel has conducted an airstrike into Syria, two U.S. officials tell CNN.

U.S. and Western intelligence agencies are reviewing classified data showing Israel most likely conducted a strike in the Thursday-Friday time frame, according to both officials. This is the same time frame that the U.S. collected additional data showing Israel was flying a high number of warplanes over Lebanon.

One official said the United States had limited information so far and could not yet confirm those are the specific warplanes that conducted a strike. Based on initial indications, the U.S. does not believe Israeli warplanes entered Syrian airspace to conduct the strikes.

Both officials said there is no reason to believe Israel struck at a chemical weapons storage facilities. The Israelis have long said they would strike at any targets that prove to be the transfer of any kinds of weapons to Hezbollah or other terrorist groups, as well as at any effort to smuggle Syrian weapons into Lebanon that could threaten Israel.

The Lebanese army website listed 16 flights by Israeli warplanes penetrating Lebanon's airspace from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon local time.

The Israeli military had no comment. But a source in the Israeli defense establishment told CNN's Sara Sidner, "We will do whatever is necessary to stop the transfer of weapons from Syria to terrorist organizations. We have done it in the past and we will do it if necessary the future."

It should be evident that offensive wars to spread Islam are the heart of the entire religion of Islam. Now there is so many offshoots and branches of this religion it is just insane. You are your own worse enemy.

For Israel, a nation woefully lacking strategic depth and situated in a hostile and potentially turbulent geopolitical sphere, pre-emptive strikes are the practical and preferred mode of survival.

What's going on Isreal can't the chosen ones keep their nose out of someone elses business just for a while or is Netanyahu that desperate for a war ...America as a whole is tired of getting hung up in other countries problems most leading to war and this is just that type to get us into another Vietnam of sorts..Just think of what over 2 trillion dollars plus that's been spent on Iraq and now in Afghanistan would have done for the Americans in this country..It's pretty evident the republicans can't stay away from wars and next one why don't we send a few of their republican reps to fight for all of us and we'll see what becomes of their buds in the MIC and you republican armchair generals know what I'm talking about right men,now at ease!!

        Pete,
You kno w as well as I do that Obama could pull the plug on any and all military action even Gitmo if he so wanted. He can by pass the Washington retards and give a direct order. But he chooses not to why???? Because is as guilty as the rest of them the letter beside their name don't matter.

@usmc1371,are you really a marine because you don't know squat.Even if he gave executive orders marine it would take months to remove and safely all of our military just like in Iraq..And if you remember men would die even in evacuating the country, not as easy as you think big boy..It's not like moving out of your shack you live in and throwing every thing out on your lawn to make it quicker..It took months of planning just to stage such an event to get there and if you are a marine it'll take almost as long to get out safely and if you know it marine...And also smart guy where the hell are you going to put these so called terrorists or political prisoners you all know so much about at Gitmo, nobody in any other country wants them and you want them here stateside,I sure as hell don't..Try using your head for something other than a hat rack marine, again if you are one!!

@usmc1371,Pres.Obama like you and I said can give executive orders but again are you willing to kill more soldiers just to cut and run..And then we'll have to watch like hawks afraid for the rest of our lives that their extremist might come stateside for retribution,I'm armed and ready but who wants to watch over their shoulders because of what that nitwit in Bush did starting senseless wars got us into!!I applaud your service but you tell me if you were over there what for and it isn't that countries freedom, democracy its only to keep the republicans and you in getting paid by the MIC,Cheneys Halliburton and you know it because as usual we'll come away empty handed just like in Vietnam,Iraq and now Afghanistan with the dead and wounded to remind us of another mistake a republican made at our and your expense!!Now tell me I'm wrong now marine!!

Pete... You may not know it but Syria is officially AT WAR with Israel... and so is Lebanon... and, therefore, transfer of weapons from Syria to Lebanon in order to be used against Israel is NOT "someone else's business".

@Thinker23,we've been in everybodys elses business since before possibly you and I were born and this is just another part that has to stop with our interference that gets us always stuck in s senseless war..And if Netanyahu,Assad want to fight it out like the Hatfields and McCoys let them and we'll just referee for a change that's all and save lives, money...If you've read history its almost always been republicans who have got into wars and that's fact from Eisenhower with Vietnam in the 50s to Bushs 2 wars with lies in Iraq,Afghanistan that should of never happened and don't talk democracy or anything because its the republicans and the MIC that lives for war to feed their greed and you know facts don't lie so check for yourself!!Pres.Obama just got stuck with a bad hand of cards dealt to him by that maniacal moron in Bush that's all and you know it!!

Now, Syria has every right to retaliate against Israel, right?

Or is this another double standard for Uncle Sam's sweetheart?

Holy Wars Suck....and we will surely be sucked into this one...give it time...when Bibi tells BHO to send US forces into harm's way, Obama will dutifully comply.... like a fawning vassal....or else!

I have no idea where this news came from. I just checked many news agencies including foreign ones Israeli, Arab, Iranian,Syrian ( that usually would love put out such news because that reinforces their position that Israel is behind all the bad things that are happening in Syria) pro and against the regime of Syria, no such news. Either CNN has a very advanced source or it is the wrong interpretation that led to this news,

USMC, if you are referring to apartheid Zionism, in a nuclear-scofflaw Jewish theocracy, then I might agree with your post....the Jewish state is not legit...the UN created a monster...and it is out of control....and full of hate and seeking Holocaust vengeance.
