U.S. says it sent B-2 stealth bombers over South Korea

By Jethro Mullen, CNN

The United States said Thursday it sent stealth bombers to South Korea to participate in annual military exercises amid spiking tensions with North Korea.

The B-2 Spirit bombers flew more than 6,500 miles from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri to South Korea, dropping inert munitions there as part of the exercises, before returning to the U.S. mainland, the U.S Forces in Korea said in a statement.

The mission by the planes, which can carry both conventional and nuclear weapons, "demonstrates the United States' ability to conduct long range, precision strikes quickly and at will," the statement said.

The U.S. military's announcement earlier this month that it was flying B-52 bombers over South Korea to participate in the routine exercises prompted an angry reaction from the North, which has unleashed a torrent of threats in the past few weeks.

The North Korean leadership has engaged in temper tantrums for decades, nothing new.
NK has always acted like a child, stamping it's feet on the floor when it wants attention, nothing new there either.
As was already stated very well, NK, wants to "gain international legitimacy" on the World stage.
Like a child, NK want to be recognized, if not, they throw tantrums.
The NK Leadership is as isolated as it's own people.

It wasn't a show of force to North Korea, it was a show of force to the region. If we lose pacific island bases, we can still attack.

all said and done , we all need to step back, and cool down, or a lot of damage and killing is going to happen if we don't rethink where we are at. if we go forward in the next few days, then there is no turning back! north korea has the power to hammer the south, but the u.s. has the power to end all life on the whole peninsula. what do we want to do ?

We invaded Iraq and they had not made one single threat against us. They have estimated that a war with that country could be over in 24 hours or less. I think we should just take a day and end all the problems we and other countries have with them. I would think the only reason we don't is because of China. So what and big deal if China stops shipping their products here as that would probably create more jobs here, China needs us more than we need them so forget about China and get it done. If this was a middle east country we didn't like we would have bombed the crap out of them by now.

You dont know what your talking about. So let me school you a bit. North Korea possesses thousands of short and medium range ballistic missiles, a large navy including submarines, thousands of long range artillery units,a very high Tec air defense system(China gave them that one),thousands of armor pieces and a million man army and that doesn't include the 10 or so nukes they got. What I think you heard is that our forces would take 50,000 casualtys in the first 24 hours. We haven't seen are real war like that in a long time and I doubt America has the stomach for it.

You must be drinking the North Korean koolaid. They have a large army with a lot of equipment, yes. Tanks are 40+ years old, wouldnt stand a chance, artillery will be an issue until our airpower supresses it. Their air defense is a low threat to our strategic aircraft at best. Their Airforce and Navy would be combat inneffective withing a few hours of declaring war. Their missiles are innaccurate, and will cause damage initially, but nothing unforseen. South Korea could decimate them without our help. They dont have the supplies to sustain conflict, and would likely loose Chinese support (South Korea makes them more money.) 50,000 soldiers die, you watch to many movies.

@us soldier, there long rang missiles are inaccurate yes. But there short and medium range missiles are very accurate. The 50,000 casualties estimate I got from the last defence secretary. The fact that you seid deaths when I seid casualties let's me know you not a real soldier at all.

Careful they said we would take heavy casualties invading Iraq and ordered tens of thousands of body bags. only a few hundred died.

North Korean is in a bad predictament. 1st off South Korea could decimate the north by themselves, The Us is just overkil at this point.

There goes Barack Obama again, showing off his stupidity by displaying those B2 bombers! No wonder the North Koreans are angry at us! All this antagonism never gets anyone anywhere but you can't tell the right-wing thugs in Washington that!

When he assumed the Presidency back in 2009 ripdoc, if not sooner than that. On the other hand, Obama could have been a right-wing fanatic all along but kept it under wraps. I guess we'll never know for sure.

I don't think you know what it means to be 'right wing' – probably best to stick to the forums over at Nickelodeon until you're told you're ready to discuss topics like this.

Some people are clueless... As a conserve I can tell you that the president is certainly not; however, as all presidents should (Liberal or Conservative) he is protecting the people of the United States and our interests and not backing down to dictators that leverage the suffering of their own people in a futile effort to gain international legitimacy. Who really thinks that this show of force was a bad idea? He said that he was going to nuke American cities last week, we were just letting him know we can nuke him back.
