Cutting costs: Marines told "save every round"

By Kevin Liptak

United States Marines are being told to preserve ammunition and gasoline as a deal softening the impact of automatic spending cuts continues to elude leaders in Washington.

Marine Corps Commandant James Amos urged personnel in a videoposted online Friday to "save every round, every gallon of gas," and to "take every single aspect or opportunity in training to get the most bang for the buck," a reminder of the cuts' immediate effect on the U.S. military.

"This is no time to do business as usual," Amos said in the video. "Things have changed. The landscape's changed. We need you to be conservative in the way you do business, I need you to think about conserving our assets, and I need you to become part of the solution as it relates to sacrifice."

I'm so happy to read this. This is the kind of manual that needs to be given and not the accidental misinformation that is at the other blogs. Natalina http://minihogtalare.se/jbl-onbeat-air-hogtalare/

So Homeland security sitting on their collective ars3s buys 1.6 BILLION bullets (the majority of them hollow points suitable for combat) but the marines on the front lines have to conserve? If we ask nice maybe they could spare 750 million or so?
Maybe our brilliant president could try a charm offensive on them to pry a few hundred million loose. Are we really expected to be idiotic enough to buy this sort of nonsense?

The cheapest and most effective way to eliminate terrorists and Islamic clerics is to pay bounties to Muslim women including giving them exit visas. Osama Bin Laden Laden was captured because he was betrayed by his concubines.

U.S. Marines do more with less anyway, so this is no surprise to us at all. We will still get the job done! Semper Fi Devil Dogs!!

I know a lot of retired vets that are conservative in monetary policy and do not support the spending we went through in the Bush years..I have no idea if you know how long it takes to undo some of the things that has been done in the last 15 years but it sure isn't going to happen overnight or even 5 years..we were lied to about going to war in Iraq because the people who were responsible for the World Trade Center were holed up in the mountains of Afghanistan..not Iraq...and we were "mis-led" about why we were fighting in Vietnam..but I went because I thought it was the right thing to do..I volunteered like a lot of guys to go..in harm's way..for my country..and I did my 20 plus..and saw everything go to hell..but I gotta say I have mixed feelings about civilian leadership when it comes to the military..civilians have no idea what people go through in combat and what it takes once they get back..except in their stupid little video games..I felt for a long time that everyone should be required to serve..no exemptions..for education or any of that stuff..just serve the 2 years to get a feel for a different kind of life..then these people would not be so fast at sending kids into war..other people's kids that is.

America is the root of all terror. America has invaded sixty countries since world war 2.
In 1953 America overthrow Iran's democratic government Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a brutal dictator Shah. America helped Shah of Iran to establish secret police and killed thousands of Iranian people.
During Iran-Iraq war evil America supported Suddam Hossain and killed millions of Iranian people. In 1989, America, is the only country ever, shot down Iran's civilian air plane, killing 290 people.
In 2003,America invaded Iraq and killed 1,000,000+ innocent Iraqi people and 4,000,000+ Iraqi people were displaced.
Now America is a failed state with huge debt. Its debt will be 22 trillion by 2015.

The only country to shoot down a civilian airliner? Are you kidding me?The Lockerbie tragedy does not count among your "state" sponsored downings? The United States has done many questionable things and our CIA has participated in many illegal activities..but to deny there were and are other "states" willing to do the same is unbelievable..civilian planes accidentally entering North Korean or Russian air space are at their own peril..by the way..the Lockerbie bombing mastermind is considered a hero over there..but you already know that.

Why wouldn't they always conserve as much fuel as possible?

Just seems ridiculous to have the outlandish spending that we have and try to solve via fuel and ammo, but the concept is fine.

The US military can't arm its US Marines, take away Tuition Assistance from our troops, and can't refuel the USS Abe Lincoln.
Yet Moochelle Obama dines with Ashley Judd, Barry golfs with Tiger Woods while taking separate vacations before a sequester that he signed for in 2011.
    Let the impeachment begin.

did you vote for bush? because if you did then go after him for cuts to vets and vet hospitals.oh, and for cuts to soldiers' armor and gear...and cuts to improvements in humvees going over ieds....youre worse than those fools who support the pedophile vatican, blind to who the real enemy is because youre too invested in your distorted version of reality. ANY president who doesnt support the military (active, and vets) should be questioned. its a shame how the us treats service personnel, period.

Greg, take your meds, who has been in office for almost 5 years? , that's right OBAMA, so you are one of his sheeple who supports his lavish lifestyle on the US taxpayers dime while our nation security suffers, the same people who serve in the US military are the ones who are getting screwed.
Have you ever served in the US military?
And I don't support pedophile Vatican either, so why don't YOU join reality and see the big picture of what is going on in Washington D.C.

This is a ridiculously specious propaganda piece. THE USMC is nothing short of spartan in its frugality as a matter of tradition and fact.
