Concerned about the reaction to an anti-Muslim film that was gaining attention online, the U.S. intelligence community sent a cable to the embassy in Egypt warning of the concern, a U.S. official told CNN. It was sent 48 hours before the protests in Cairo and Benghazi in Libya, the official said.
The cable did not discuss any specific threat, the official said. It warned instead about the existence of the movie being posted on the internet and the fact that it was gaining attention. A seven minute portion of the movie aired on an Egyptian TV talk show the weekend before the protests started, according to a Department of Homeland Security/Federal Bureau of Intelligence memo obtained by CNN on Thursday.
The cable was not sent to the embassy in Tripoli, Libya or the consulate in Benghazi. US officials have said there was no intelligence ahead of the attack in Benghazi, which intelligence officials still believe was not planned. The White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday there was no "actionable intelligence" indicating an attack was being planned.
There are hundreds if not thousands of cables sent each day, the official said, and there was no specific threat attached to this one, because a specific threat was not known.

I live in the United States and believe it is a great nation, however, I believe their frustration is not only from their fiscally delicate situation but their inability to show their pride in their past. Seriously, the US has suspended foreign aid to India in the past and India has simply shrugged and gone about it's business. The US seems more interested in India than India does in the US.
We have invested a lot of resources in India over the past two decades and given a lot of aid to prop it up. There has been no investment on this return. Instead India has squandered all the resources in building nuclear weapons while poverty remains rampant in the country. We need to revisit our relationship with India. American taxpayers will not tolerate this anymore. We need to take care of our own populace going forward. We cannot be exporting jobs to India or giving it financial or technical handouts.It has become too big to govern or create any value for western countries or even for its own population. India needs to be carved up into smaller independent states to be a viable economically and geo politically.
I hope Intelligence agencies all over the world are taking note before it is too late. We need to allocate a whole squadron of drones to address this issue alone in India. I am sure Bangladesh, China and Myanmar would oblige with ground support and bases.

I don't know where the fault lies; it seems to be spread around among White House staff and intelligence agencies. I do know that it is reported that Obama attended less than 60% of all security briefings. Jay Carney does not dispute that but says that he "read" the daily reports, in my mind not the same as discussions with security experts. Obviously, Clinton and Obama made NO preparations for the possibility of attacks on the anniversary of 9/11, nor did the fact that the Benghazi Embassy had been attacked numerous times in June, July, and August. They ignored security alerts from the UK and the fact that the UK closed their Benghazi embassy because of the extreme danger. Obama is unfit to be president. Clinton is a loser, and CNN is untrustworthy for not reporting the facts which are coming out in other media. They cannot protect Obama from fault in this horrible tragedy.

He thought an apology would smooth things over, but it acted as acknowledgment of a film that no one ever saw. The attacks were planned due to 9/11 anniversary, not a film. I am ashamed of Obama. There was no apology. Any "embarrassment" was on the part of the people characterizing a condemnation of a hideous film as an "apology" of some sort. Still shaking my head over that particular contortion!
Some warn that the recent event could potentially run into another Arab-Spring style of uprising, this time against American. Yet, there is a big different between Arab Spring and this recent event. The former was a huge explosion of discontents that have been suppressed for decades by dictatorial regimes across Middle East and affected a large percentage of the population. The recent event is simply a burst of emotion among a tiny crowd fueled by hatred of US influence. If you notice, the crowd that attacked the embassies are more or less than 1000 people, while the vast silence majority of Arab nations offers some quiet level of understanding and tolerance as most religions do. We should base our foreign policy on the silence majority.
I hope our government keep a cool head, not over-react and do the radical elements a big favor by unintentionally fueling the fire further....
I would feel better if the local government would dispatch rapid police forces to defend the embassies under attack. I would also feel better if the US Marines defending the embassies were NOT PROHIBITED FROM CARRYING AMMUNITION FOR THEIR WEAPONS. I did notice a couple of ladies carrying signs that proclaimed the violence did not speak for them. Bottom line, they don't want us there, so let us leave. Let's take our toys and go home.

Embassies and Consulants of the United States are considered United States. Where were the marine guards? What were their rules of engagement. If people jump over the walls of our embassies and consulants the marines should fire warning shots and if they do not stop then the marines should fire and try to wound them. If the marines feel their lives are in danger then they should fire into the people.
It is the responsiblity of the host country to protect foreign embassies and consulants. If the host country is unable or unwilling to do that then the marine guards need to protect themselfs

The embassy in Cairo was warned that the public in a country with A LOT of domestic terrorism ( mostly against Christians) was angry about a movie that mocked Islam.
That fact pails in comparison to the fact that the embassies weren't better protected on 9/11. I found it really offensive to see those black al-qaeda style flags flying over the US embassy in Cairo on the anniversary of 9/11. The embassy staff cowering in fear. I found it pretty offensive that terrorists were able to attack the US consulate in Libya and kill the ambassador on the anniversary of 9/11. I don't even remember what Mitt Romney said exactly.
what it comes down to is understanding the why and how and maybe the what of questions being asked and not answered..maybe the middle east is better off without taking time to resolve the whole Christian effort with the last...since every follower can't be both, but only ONE OR THE OTHER!!!!!!!!

The Middle East is and always will be a powder keg. Foreign policy over there is changing regularly with government coups and take overs, new leaders and new perceived threats by radicals. All policies regarding it should change regularly to go with the times. No one, not even your beloved Mitt can claim they have all the answers in regards to the Middle East.. Look at both candidates reactions. Mitt would have inflamed the situation by going in guns blazing versus a more diplomatic response from the POTUS. I choose diplomacy and a cool head in the face of unrest and turmoil. We cant afford another war, financially or from the standpoint of our reputation in the world.
