Fort Hood suspect may be 'forcibly shaved' before trial

The military judge who will oversee the trial of the man accused in the 2009 Fort Hood massacre ruled Wednesday that if Maj. Nidal Hasan doesn't shave by the start of jury selection, he will be forcibly shaved.

Col. Gregory Gross has been telling Hasan he must shave, in accordance with Army regulations. Hasan, who is a Muslim, has refused to shave for more than a month, apparently in keeping with Quranic teachings.

During a pretrial hearing Wednesday, Gross ruled Hasan in contempt of court and fined him $1,000. Gross told Hasan that he unless the defendant shaves before the start of his trial, he will be "forcibly shaved," according to Christopher Haug and Tyler Broadway, spokesmen at Fort Hood.

Even though Hasan has been in custody since November 2009 when 13 people were shot and killed at the U.S. Army installation outside Killeen, Texas, he is still in the Army and still draws his pay.

Hasan was left paralyzed from the waist down in the shooting, when police officers exchanged fire with him. He faces a possible death penalty if convicted in the shooting.

Dragging this situation out for 3 years is just stupid, beard or no beard. Hang him or shoot him and make him a model for what happens when you murder our soldiers. Just do it!!

I wish they would sentence him to life with hard labor. Make every day a basic training experience. Having Drill Sergeants screaming in his face. To sentence him to death would only make him a martyr in the eyes of islam.

Actually, it would not work. He is currently paralyzed from the waist down due to gunfire. What are you going to work out – his arms? Forcibly shave his face, so we can get this trial started and he can be sentenced to death like the POS that he is and the traitor he became when he shot his fellow soldiers. He doesn't deserve one iota of concern beyond what the law allows and even then ....

Fred, good to see there are still ignorant imbeciles out there. Just because his name sounds foreign to you, don't make idiotic assumptions. He was baptized as a Catholic, and has attended Catholic services throughout his life. He did attend a muslim school in Indonesia, but it was muslim only in the sense that the majority of students that went there were muslim (not a religious school). He also attended Catholic school while there – get your facts right and quit being a a hate-spewing repeater for Rush-lies.

"NON-PRACTICING MUSLIMS" are good people, the moment they become "PRACTICING MUSLIMS" as Mr Hasan, and start following strictly the Koran and imitating Mohammed's immoral, intolerant, violent and discriminatory conduct, they become the same way: irrational, aggressive, cruel and a merciless person

Yes, people in military confinement still get paid, often at a very reduced rate like Pvt1. Forcible shaving is the wrong approach. If shaving is against Islam fine, there however is no objection to the death penalty in Islam.

Yes, because in America, we have laws and trials. Until/unless found guilty, Maj. Hassan is still an active duty officer.

As a Non-commissioned officer, you should be ashamed of yourself. This man should have been put to death on the spot. He murdered innocent soldiers. The same soldiers you have given an oath to put your life before theirs. "Adults speaking... go to your room." You may be an adult, but you are in no way worthy of leading soldiers. Not even in an office environment. Rip those stripes off your chest.

        W. D. Charles are you scolding SSG like a little boy? And then admonishing him for scolding another? Seriously, shooting someone on the spot is entirely against our American way of life-this country is based upon trials or did you neglect that item when you joined the lynch mob?

The point is that, regardless of what his religion is, he is a comissioned officer in the US military, and is subject to the UCMJ. PERIOD. He knew this when he became an officer, and has complied with regulations until this point... he was already a practicing Muslim, and shaved regularly, and it was 'OK' then. Refusing to shave now (and blaming it on his religion) is a simple case of noncompliance and insubordination, and it's not surprising he got a contempt charge, too... The reason he's allowed to draw pay is the same exact reason why they can(should) hold him down and shave him by force, if necessary – because he is still an active member of the military and his rights and conduct are governed by the UCMJ. One way or the other, I agree with a few other people commenting here today... if you really want this guy to probably get closer to what he's got coming, you do NOT want civilian courts to touch this. Let the military courts deal with this fool... they've got his number. He'll get his trial, then perish from sudden terminal lead poisoning. Done.

I know many fine Muslim men who despise this clown as well for the intolerable actions he did and is now claiming to be under Muslim edits. Kind of like the clowns who do horrid stuff claiming to be Christians, while being so far from the tenets and practices of that faith it is ridiculous. I hate the actions and despise the person who did the actions. He is not worthy of my hate. He is too far below it.

      • Wastrel

Quite true. However, Islam does mandate that everyone must become a Muslim. The goal of Islam is world conquest and the establishment of a world religion. Some (too many) followers of Islam believe that any means toward this goal are acceptable, including terrorism. Islam and all Muslims must make it clear that they are no different than any other religion, that a person has a free choice in what faith he follows, and completely repudiate all the imams and other Muslims who advocate violent jihad. Unless Islam reforms to this extent, it must be destroyed as a danger to civilization.

THIS INDIVIDUAL, SICKENING THOUGH IT MAY BE, IS STILL A SOLDIER AND AN OFFICER IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY. THEREFORE, HE IS STILL REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL PROVISIONS OUTLINED IN ARMY REGULATION 670-1. THAT MEANS THAT THIS DIRTBAG, REGARDLESS OF HIS RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, WILL FREAKIN' SHAVE AND GET A FREAKIN' HAIRCUT AND REPORT TO COURT EACH AND EVERY TIME WITH HIS PHYSICAL APPEARANCE AND PERSONAL HYGIENE IN ACCORDANCE WITH SAID REGULATION UNTIL HE HAS BEEN CONVICTED, STRIPPED OF HIS RANK, BENEFITS AND KICKED OUT OF THE SERVICE. Well, see we have this thing about being innocent until proven guilty. Now what will probably happen is once found guilty and reduced to rank E1 until sentencing and execution if so ordered that reduction will be retroactive to the time of his arrest. All funds would be seized at that time. They have to let him stay enlisted because if the discharge him he will not fall under military authority then it would transfer to civilian courts. Trust me we want the military to do this.

He is a military member, he committed his alleged offenses while serving in the military. He is required, just like all other servicemembers to maintain a certain appearance, to include shaving. No matter if he is currently deatained or not. He should have thought about how he may be treated by the military BEFORE he committed his "alleged" offense. I know it is hard for civilians to understand the military lifestyle, but if you don't understand it, maybe you should leave your comments for civilian issues.

THIS COMMENT IS FOR "MARY" AND EVERYBODY ELSE OUT THERE THAT MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN:

PERIOD. IT'S THAT DAMN SIMPLE. HE'S STILL IN THE SERVICE; HE'S STILL A SOLDIER AND HE WILL COMPLY AND DO WHAT THE HELL HE IS FREAKIN' TOLD.

Mary, it wasn't your son there at the time of the shooting, at Ft. Hood inside the processing center. The choice that my son made that day at the process center truly saved his life, however his friends were killed and many were wounded. Usarmyretired had finished speaking the rest for me. Honestly Mary, I don't think that you are even an American.

He is still in the military! If we leave him alone, maybe we should leave everyone in the Army alone. Hell, no more shaving for anyone! Wear whatever you want, folks! It's Mary's Army now! Mary, you are a worthless piece of libtard garbage who has obviously never served in the military.

WHY the heck is this guy still in the Army and drawing a paycheck? It's not as if his guilt is 'heresay' or yet to be proven. He was witnessed shooting all those people. He should not be getting a penny in tax dollars. I'm incensed by this story and bet the victims families would be even more so.

You kick him out of the military, he falls under civilian justice which will take longer, has a higher standard for convictions and generally complicates the case. The whatever they pay the guy (which, make no doubt, he will never see a penny of) is a pittance. Besides, I'm pretty sure he got his rank lowered for, you know, shooting other soldiers and will no doubt get less in his paycheck as a result.

This level of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sensitivity is just sickening . Muslims are more persecuted and abused more in America then ever before , and this Anti-Islamic hatred must stop . Islam is peace , and radical Islamists are now acceptible . Our State Department does not consider Islamist's a threat anymore and openly engages in dialog and discource with them . The American Muslim Brotherhood has much greater political stature then ever before , they can tell us what to do and what is correct or not , dicating to us our homeland policies concerning radiacal Islam , they have a direct say into Law enforcement and Military training information , choosing for use who they aprove and what information they want to believe and who not to listen to . We even have 3 Muslim Brotherhood personael in the White House in the Obama administration . Radical Islam is here to stay , so ebprace the American Islamic Brotherhood , or else ...

Truth is these horrific murders, and yes...I'm talking about everything from the Marines barracks bombing to the USS Cole to 9/11 and Pan Am 103 have ALL been carried out by Muslims...not sure most of the muslims in the world have any misgivings about their hatred of Americans for all their perceived ills of the world. It works both ways brother.

Fortunately, you're wrong Mohamiss. Once Nobama is out of office after this year, there will be a crackdown on Radical Muslims. Enjoy your freedom right now but honestly, and I think many will agree, there is no place for faux Radical Isamism(is that a word) in this country. It is a barbaric religion stuck in the Dark Ages. Christians, Catholics and other religions are current with the times, why aren't you? Women have rights this day in age. Radical Muslims don't believe in women's rights or rights whatsoever. It's all about "God Willing" this and "God Willing" that.

The ones like Usama Bin Ladin and this guy who was in an American Military that shot all those people at Fort Hood. I have a problem with that sort of violence whether they are Muslim or not. Just recently the Dark Night person who killed all those people. He is not Muslim and I have a problem with that person.

He's an officer in the military and they have rules on how you are to look (IE: hair cut, shaved, dress....) you can get premission to not shave but that even has a rule that it can only be so long. Remember he signed on that line and agreeded to these rules. Make the man act as he agreeded.

He has been in custody since 2009 and ONLY since last month has not been shaving, this obviously is not part of his faith. Also his hair looks neatly trimmed, so it seems cutting his hair is not a principle problem with him. This whole situation has nothing to do with any Islam-phobia or anti-Muslim. This situation is a standard army rule, if he didn't like it he should not have entered the army. A mass murderer is just a mass murderer, just like the one now in Aurora, Colorado. As a soldier though he took an oath to protect and defend our country etc. If he didn't want to do as ordered, he should have just left the army. He had that option, but his greed for money was bigger then his principle as a Muslim. There was no reason whatsoever for him to go around and just kill anyone who had nothing to do with his personal situation.

Mohamiss, why are you and your people really here? It is plain to rational thinking Americans that the practice of taqiyya is the methodology by which islam infiltrates a society. I know it, Thomas Jefferson knew it, and our present leaders are deceived. Your religion is NOT COMPATIBLE with American values. Those 3 Muslims you mention in the White House are there due to our Muslim-sympathizing president, who is no more American IN HIS HEART than the leader of Iran. So, what again, has Islam contributed to the betterment of the world?

Seems pretty simple to me. It's either now or after the trial, what's the difference. Don't tell me they will execute him and he's still apart of our Armed Services!!!!!!!!
