Clinton: Iran's proposals are "non-starters."

By Jamie Crawford

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Iran's proposals at recent talks over the country's disputed nuclear program were "non-starters," and called on the international community to increase its pressure on Iran.

"I made very clear that the proposals that we have seen from Iran thus far within the P5+1 negotiations are non-starters," Clinton told reporters at a news conference in Jerusalem following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "Despite three rounds of talks, Iran has yet to make a strategic decision to address the international community's concerns and fulfill their obligations under the IAEA and the UN Security Council."

In her remarks, Clinton reaffirmed the goal of achieving a diplomatic solution to a program many western countries fear is a cover for Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Iran maintains its program is purely for peaceful purposes.

The so-called P5+1 talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany have stalled following three rounds of discussions, and a meeting last week of technical experts from each party. The United States and the European Union recently enacted sanctions targeting Iran's petroleum sector that Clinton said were "biting" the regime in Tehran.

In an interview with CNN Foreign Affairs Reporter Elise Labott in Jerusalem, Clinton said the United States increased intensive dialogue with Israel about Iran's nuclear program "to an unprecedented level."

With fears that the window for a diplomatic solution to the problem may be closing, and a military strike by Israel against Iran's nuclear program may be on the horizon, Clinton said the United States is always in close consultation with Israel.

"I think it's absolutely fair to say we are on the same page at this moment trying to figure our way forward to have the maximum impact on affecting the decisions that Iran makes," she told reporters at the news conference.

"The choice is ultimately Iran's to make," Clinton said. "Our own choice is clear: we will use all elements of American power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon."

Clinton's visit to Israel was the final stop of a marathon twelve day, nine country trip.

nom, shelf life: yes. but it's longer than what they print (according to the wife of soenome who was in charge of something in the fda) and diapers (which take up a whole lot of space in my bug out/go bag) never go bad. :) yea for non-composting diapers! (i bet they'd make excellent bandages, too )re: compound see, here's what i'm thinking: make it a bed and breakfast, with a sustainable theme. *educate* people about sustainable stuff (makes it an educational non profit, yea tax dodges!) get a graduate from one of the uk's estate management courses to be the on-site director. cook meals from what is grown onsite( or what's bartered for from what's made) have little cal-earth cottages for the staff (or paying guests to try out) kind of like a Green Colonial Williamsburg you can either defend against the masses or embrace and educate them (and get young healthy college students to do the heavy manual work) 'cause there will be a world after oil, and i don't want it to look like argentina.

What amazes me is the MUSHROOMING of our Pakistani friends under DUBIOUS Christian names trying to malign India, while batting for their terrorist nation.

If they didn't know Americans have become just too smart to be misled by such CHEAP GIMMICKS of our Pakistani friends or even of that of some Indians such as CNN's own Mr.Fareed Zakaria who has been busy misleading Americans & Indians while defending his brethren.

Bizarre child-burying Hindu ceremony in India
    CNN:
Indian police have charged 80 people for burying children alive in an ancient Hindu ceremony known as "the festival of pits."
The ceremony, in which children - some less than a year old - are buried alive briefly and then dug up, happened on Monday in southern Tamil Nadu state, The Asian Age reported on Thursday.

Every two years, parents who have vowed to bury their first-born if they are blessed with a child, take part in the Kuzhimattru Thiru Vizha ceremony.
The children are drugged to make them unconscious and placed in shallow "graves" in temple courtyards.
The pits are covered with leaves and dirt and the children are pulled out after Hindu priests chant a brief prayer - lasting up to a minute.

India has become unmanageable in size. At times, the sum of parts is greater than the whole. And that is precisely where India needs to head. A controlled breakup of sorts. It will solve the regional issues including those of Iran.

We have been fighting a war for the past ten years with no end. Our soldiers have shed blood to no end. Their families are suffering. Has even one Indian soldier sacrificed his life in helping the Americans, NATO and western countries in fighting this war? The answer is a resolute NO. Folks, just think about it, 1.2 million Indian Army soldiers are sitting in trenches doing what???? Sure the heck beats me. Americans are now questioning the US Congress as to what they are doing to correct this unsustainable relationship with India. The India caucus is being monitored by citizen groups. If they don't respond to the needs of the American people political contributions to them will be severely impacted.

PAKISTAN.....The New Gateway to Central Asia and Europe.
With a population of over 180 million most of whom are well educated, English speaking, entrepreneurial and a cultural and social fit with Central Asians...Pakistan will now become the new face and gateway to Central Asia and Europe. Pakistan will thus span this region and provide the impetus for growth, prosperity and unity among these countries. These are new and exciting times for Pakistanis who should now look forward to their new leadership role aligned with Central Asia and Europe rather than the Subcontinent. We wish them much success as they have sacrificed the most during the past 30 + years creating a new world order.

The thesis is that smaller independent states will generate tremendous economic demand for western nations, be democratically more efficient and easy to manage. It will also unleash opportunities for the people that will eradicate poverty. Moreover, the currently subjugated and enslaved minorities will have a place they can call home, have their skin in the game and work harder and with a passion to keep that neighborhood clean from extremists.

I have read with interest the thesis presented in this forum that "small is beautiful". Empowering subjugated minorities in India by splitting it into smaller states would trigger uber economic demand for western nations who have given so much financial and technology aid to India with no return to show for the investment. I concur with this approach and with economic background find the premise to be on solid footing. Central Asian States (CAS) are a case in point on this successful approach. We need to understand that India has an unmanageable large population mired in poverty and we are spinning our wheels trying to feed it. It is also too big of a geographical unit to govern. Again, we saw how a few teenage talibans were able to invade it with a few BB guns. Even the CIA/Mossad were not able to stop it.

Regarding my post @ 153:first sorry for all the wordiness .Second:The US gnevroment is terrified because for all intents and purposes There is not a single dollar of money in US banks that is not borrowed money. if people start to demand their money back, there is nothing to give everyone. This is shown by the the total reserves being approx NEGATIVE 300 Billion. Every single dollar of reserves is a loan from the FED because the banks have spent or loaned out the money. A significant portion of those loans have gone bad. Consider the consequences.More bad news:No country is isolated. 600+ trillion worth of bad investment must be removed from the global market. That id 9-10 times larger then the global GDP (approx 65 trillion)for orion: Why are we suddenly worried about europe?Spain is bankrupt! It is only staying afloat because of the amount of money that the European central bank (ECB) has been giving it to cover its minimum debt payments. The ECB can no longer loan the money to spain or to other countries. Its out (oversimplified). If/When the money stops flowing into spanish banks the spanish financial system could collapse, banks close people cant get their money, cats and dogs living together ..if spain goes down it will cause a global cascade because there is no real separation between any one countries banking system and the global banking system. The are tightly connected. Spain will bring down the entire system because everyone has lost money , huge amoounts, and no one has the money to backstop spain. All of the money you hear about being pumped in so far is just IOU's. There are no real assets to backup the IOU's

The American invasion of Afghanistan brought to the forefront the irrelevance of India as a nation. With a population of over 1.2 billion people there was no value that this nation could bring to the table. Their soldiers (ragtag) 1.2million continue hiding in the trenches scared from Talibans. A few teenage Talibans invaded the country and held it hostage for days on end showing how useless India is. It was embarrasing for the world to observe this humiliation of a nation that was being touted as a regional power. The Talibans brought them down in a few days with some BB guns.

The bottom line is that the only way to have peace in Afghanistan and lessen regional tension is split India into pieces. It has become too big to govern or create any value for western countries or even for its own population. We have invested a lot of resources in India over the past two decades and given a lot of aid to prop it up. There has been no investment on this return. Instead India has squandered all the resources in building nuclear weapons while poverty remains rampant in the country. We need to revisit our relationship with India. American taxpayers will not tolerate this anymore. We need to take care of our own populace going forward. We cannot be exporting jobs to India or giving it financial or technical handouts.

India is playing a double game with Americans in Iran as the article rightly points out. We are also aware of the other dirty games India is playing in the region...financing terrorists who are killing US/NATO/Pakistani troops ....undermining democracies, paying off some factions of talibans protection money so they won't do another Mumbai attack. India may pretend to drape itself in an American flag but it will never fool the world that the biggest threat to American interests in Asia and Middle East is India and their obsolete policies.

Iran continue threat of closing the strait of Hormuz and hurling hundred of missiles in the neighboring regions where U.S. have bases because of economic sanction, producing enormous hardship. Those missiles developement can be prevented, on the early stage by the intelligence commitee but the more delayed, the reaction, the more it will be difficult to contain, the upheaval of Iranial assault especially when they have nuclear bomb, that have a long range. The Western civilization and the New World is in danger. They will not stop, destroying the infidel. China and Russia, will not attack unless you hurl stones to them and they are not interested in religious conflict.
In 1492, Spain monarchy decreed a Spanish Inquisition that gave their nation , along lasting peace. Spain colonized the New World and the pacific region and at the same time convert the natives thru evangelization. These regions, thru the great effort, made these colony, closed to the western civilization,in culture ,technology and academic aspiration. Thanks to Spanish Monarchy.

Who is securing these nukes? These nukes are up for grabs by anyone. Nukes do not work the way you and the world has been told. The denuclearization of South Asia (Subcontinent) particularly India is imperative.
Quid pro quo transfer of nuclear technology by USA to third world countries such as India needs to be opposed on moral grounds. Billions of people live in that neighborhood and would be at risk from such catastrophes which I am sure the American people would not like to be a party to. We are all well aware that that region is prone to floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, and of course terrorism placing such nuclear installations at tremendous risks. US Congress is urged to reconsider and cancel all the agreements for the transfer of such technologies due “Force Majeure”.

Clinton makes me want to vomit.

Fact: Israel HAS nuclear weapons produced at the Negev NRC.
Fact: Israel deceived the world when they declared the NRC was construction of a desalination plant.
Fact: Israel denied the IAEA access to the NRC – only allowing the USA to inspect.
Fact: Israel concealed key component areas of the NRC to the American inspectors.
Fact: Israel MUST remain silent on the issue of their nuclear weapons since they would lose $3 BILLION in US funding if they disclose they are in violation of the Nonproliferation Treaty. Although they are NOT a party to the NPT, US foreign policy prohibits business with countries that are in direct violation of the NPT.
Fact: American foreign policy exists only to further American economic interests.
Fact: Isreal has attacked four Middle eastern countries in its short existence.
Fact: Iran has NEVER attacked another country as an act of war.
Fact: The USA has detonated bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

CANDU reactors do not require enriched uranium...in fact, they can run on raw uranium, reprocessed uranium, thorium, plutonium, and used LWR fuel. However, Canada should be watched because CANDU reactors were the source of both India and Pakistan's intial nuclear weapons cache. See how they equalize each other? Neither country has ever used them aginast each other.

CANDU reactors were NOT source of any Pakistani nuclear weapons programs. THey were source of India's 1974 nuclear exlposion.

Pakistan never used reactors to refine uranium. It developed a unique technique, by developing and employing centrifuges, to refine uranium to weapons grade level. It reduced the time exponentially and produced highest grade fissile material. Pakistan remains the only nation who developed and employed this state of the art technology in nuclear sciences.

Iran is no threat to the USA . They do not have any or will they ever be able to acquire weapons to launch anything against the USA.
The only reason we get pushed into this type of thinking is because of our friendship with Israel.
israel is a Big Boy now, so let them handle their own problems. Did'nt we sacrifice enough dead soldiers in Iraq for them ?

Iran is not a threat to the United States? You're 100% sure? The current Iranian regime was responsible for the 1979 embassy hostage criisis which humiliated the United States for over a year, and since then has been wagiing a low key war against America. They were complicit in the 1983 attacks on the marine barracks and embassy in Lebanon which killed over 300 Americans, the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia which killed another 19 Americans, provided aid and funding to insurgents in iraq and Afghanistan which have killed hundreds of American soldiers, have forged alliances with Al-Quaida and have been trading nuclear technology with North Korea.
The fact that they are hiding their nuclear facilities deep underground, refusing to give inspectors free, unfettered access and enduring crippling sanctions, would lead to a strong assumption they are trying to develop nuclear weapons.
They are also working on a long range milssile system that could eventually reach the United States. And read what an EMP attack from a nuclear device loaded onto a cargo ship and detonated in our atmosphere could do.

And none of this, including the war in iraq, has anything to do with Israel.

Of course they are developing nuclear weapons. I would too if I were Iran. Israel has nukes, India has Nukes, Pakistan has Nukes, and the US has military bases and battalions to the east, west, and south of Iran. This is a game of chess, and we you play chess you think "what would I do, if I were in my opponent's position". If Hillary Clinton was President of Iran she knows she would push for Nukes. Iranians having nukes will just change the balance of power. and btw they already have them otherwise Israel would have attacked them by now like they did Iraq and Syria.

Iran is not a direct threat to the USA, true... Israel can defend itself with the over 100 nukes we gave them. However, once Iran gets nuclear weapons, the Saudis will want them and the entire mid-east will become so very unstable... at least that is the most cogent argument that you hear to justify our upcoming war with Iran.

Iran is an indirect threat to the USA, because it can completely unravel the stability of the middle-east... and you know how much we love stability... we will even prop up vicious dictators for decades to achieve stability...

ChiFi: What if you are caught flat feootd? In my numb nut opinion my logic works as follows. If bill passes, market climbs on euphoria and I short near peak of hysteria as I see no way to stop the loss in the value of housing. My biggest risk is that the economy is not as bad as it seems and I give back some of the gains I've made since playing it right since last August. If bill fails, market drop to <10K and I inch my way back into some long positions, which quite frankly, I'm looking forward to doing. If market keeps dropping to 8K (which I predict it will), I will have a very nice long-term buy and hold position for the eventual recovery. You and I both know that typically market recoveries are swift and V shaped. I expect the same thing to occur this time around. It is impossible to time the market and I have been quite lucky on my way out as I already won by getting out of my longs over 30% ago. I only wish I was more of an aggressive shorter when I did.Now with some luck, I can get back in near a bottom. If I miss and the market keeps dropping, we are all screwed anyway.Keep in mind, I am always well diversified and decently risk adverse. Also keep in mind that what I say today might change tomorrow ;)

To believe that Iran will immediately lob a nuc at Israel or the US the second they have one is ignorance bordering on racism. Iranians certainly realize that their entire nation would immediately be turned into a parking lot.

Iran wants a nuc for the same reason every country does (except for ones that rely on the US for their security)- because their enemies do. All of Iran's enemies already have nuclear weapons, and they want to level the playing field.

The nation of Iran is completely encircled by US military bases and is the subject of endless Israeli operations within their borders. Why is Iran the only nation in the world that is not allowed to defend itself?

Speaking in bombastic generalities is a cultural thing. They are not mad men. Evil, possibly. They, like all dictatorships, crave power. But they certainly know that explosion of one nuclear war head anywhere in the world would result in the eradication of their nation from the face of the Earth.

RealityPolice: I don't believe Iranians are mad or evil people. However, I do believe their government is jacked up. A nuke for them is a huge chess piece for them to have at the bargaining table, even if they never use it. Personally I prefer a world in which they do not have that piece to play. Also, you appear to be operating on the idea that they would use it themselves as opposed to sell or supply it to others. If Iran did attain a nuke, I don't see why they wouldn't covertly pass it along to someone else to carry out the attack then deny all involvement. That would be the best way to acheive their ends without facing the ramifications of becoming a parking lot.

After all, it's the Republicans who were trying to say that Obama is a Muslim, in cahoots with terrorists, etc. I find it interesting that Obama is bashed either way (and it certainly reveals a lot about those who are doing the bashing). If he was softer on Iran, the right would be up in arms, saying he's a closeted Muslim terrorist. Yet if he takes a harder stance he gets the criticism of being a hawk. So what, exactly would you have him do??! Or are you simply going to bash him no matter what he does, which says a lot more about you and who you are than it says about Obama.

The US needs to develop a consistent policy regarding Iran and other states that engage in the same behavior including how we deal with them in the UN. For instance we are all over Iran on the nuclear talks but we are allowing Iran to be a KEY (2nd at the table) in the Arms Trade Treaty negotiations (which the current administration is leaning towards signing). If we have identified a state as having an issue then we should treat them the same across the board. The current administration policy towards Iran and the UN is laughable.

The Greatest Threat to America & the free world (particularly Europe in the light of the London Olympics) is our COMPLACENCY on many internal & external dangers, while being deliberately misled by people like CNN's Mr. Fareed Zakaria:

Here are a few examples of such deliberate misinformation:

    a) Iran is a rational actor

    b) A Nuclear armed Iran can add to the stability of the region by acting as a counter balance to Israeli nukes, and even Indian & Pakistani nukes MISLEADINGLY portraying friendly India & Pakistan as adversaries to Iran!

    c) By being the VERY FIRST journalist of repute(?) to MISLEADINGLY claim that an US & Israeli attack on Iran will be seen as YET ANOTHER front of the US war on Islam, something NOT even radical Muslim countries have claimed. On the contrary, the Saudis have been urging US to attack Iran, by saying that we need to "chop the head of the snake".

The only possible motive of Mr. Zakaria’s MISCHIEVOUS assertion…..is thwart any potential attack on Iran by COVERTLY influencing “naïve” American public opinion, and if an attack did indeed take place stir up greater problems for America all over the world incl. amongst the millions of Muslim Diaspora right here in the west.

A notable reference to such an eventuality can be seen from the ASTOUNDING statement by a senior Pakistani diplomat (NOT just another Pakistani!) Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK Walid Shamsul Hassan who warned of Terror on the streets of London if the US drone attacks continued on his nation. He said “ There are over 1 million Pakistani Diaspora in the UK and they can make the roads of London less safe” (ref: Sunday Times Sept 8th 2008), and in eye opening 4 part BBC interview (ref: You Tube Oct 10th 2008).

So, even as a danger from nuclear armed radical Iran, and self declared Islam bomb possessing Pakistan (which in the words of Richard Clarke is adding to 100+ nuke stockpile like SAUSAGES!!!) remains, the REAL GREATEST DANGER is US complacency.........of doing nothing at all........and this is fed by internal elements such as Mr. Zakaria an active mouth piece for Hamas, Hezbollah, the Iranians, the Pakistanis and ofcourse the Muslim Brotherhood.

With credible reports that President Obama is considering Mr. Zakaria for the position of US Sec.of State in his second term, Americans can only pray for our country's safety!

    GOD SAVE AMERICA.

Amit-Atlanta-USA: You are deranged and crazy. You have no idea what you are talking about. Who cares about Zakaria. Let's consider the facts:

Iran is indeed a rational actor. Iranians have remained calm and measured in response to the barbaric assassination of their nuclear scientists by the biggest terrorist state in the world, Israel. They have also not responded in kind to the launching of terrorist computer viruses by Israel and the other big terrorist country, the US. Even Admiral Dempsey and the head of IDF have said that the Iranian leaders are extremely rational. So, where do you get your information?

As for Iran acquiring nukes, how many times does one have to drill something into your empty skull? Iran has no interest in nukes and there is zero evidence that it has done anything to build nukes which are totally useless in today's world.

All this stupid talk about attacking Iran is simply lunacy. You actually believe the lying vixen Hillary. Nobody takes her seriously since she is just a big mouth. Nothing that comes out of her mouth has any value. What possible reason or justification is there to attack Iran? Do you know anything about the UN Charter?

As for Zakaria becoming Secretary of State, it would certainly be a huge improvement over the stupid and deceitful Hillary. However, I doubt if Obama has any brain or intuition about these matters. I suspect he will make another huge blunder and will appoint that idiot Susan Rice as Secretary of State. She will be even a worse disaster than Hillary.

they havent respoded to any of those actions becasue they have NO proof who it was that did it to them. They have been "responding" but getting caught. Remember failed attempts at assassinations in Thailand? and the US? Africa?Amongst other places? Nice try.. Not too mention it took years for whoever developed Flame to get it into their infrastructure. Do you think Iran can turn around over night and do the same thing? NO.

youre obviously on here promoting an agenda. There is ample evidence Iran is developing nuclear weapons. Anyone with basic knowledge of the subject can tell you that.

quinterius... If you believe that Iran has no interest in nuclear weapons would you be so kind to explain HOW will Iran possibly use hundreds of those long range ballistic missiles that are virtually harmless without proper warheads?

lee S: "failed attempts at assassinations in Thailand? and the US? Africa?" Are you serious? This were all false flag operations. There is zero evidence tying Iran to any of this comical events.

Oh, they arrested the drunk used car salesman for supposedly masterminding the assassination of the Saudi ambassador. Well, what happened to the guy? Why isn't he being charged? These are mostly FBI, CIA or Mossad operations using the crazy MKO cult members who are of Iranian descent but have nothing to do with Iran. It is amazing how simple-minded people are to believe these outlandish stories. Only ignorant Americans believe these fairy tales.

You also say, "There is ample evidence Iran is developing nuclear weapons." Do you mind presenting this earthshaking evidence?

Thinker23: In the history of mankind, only two nuclear bombs have been used. So, were all the other missiles useless?

Did you see the recent Pentagon report about the accuracy and effectiveness of Iranian missiles. You don't need nuclear explosives to employ missiles.

Who can use nuclear missiles or bombs now anyway? They are totally unusable and useless. Can you imagine Iran dropping a nuclear bomb on Jerusalem where some of the holiest Islamic sites are located and where numerous Palestinian live? Use your brain. What will happen the next day? Do you think the Iranians are stupid or suicidal? All their weapons are intended for defensive purposes.

quinterius... NOt a single country on this planet has long range ballistic missiles without having (or developing) nuclear warheads to fit them and for a very good reason: the best long range ballistic missiles have a hit radius of about 500 meters meaning that the best Iranians can hope for in case they'll arm these missiles with conventional 500kg warheads is to damage a random building in a city. You may recall the deadly effectiveness of Saddams' SCUDs during the first Gulf war and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Now, when you have an idea what I'm talking about can yohu try to answer my question? How will Iran possibly use its LONG RANGE BALLISTIC MISSILES in case it has no plans to develop nuclear warheads to fit them?

Thinker23: Iran has no intercontinental ballistic missiles. The longest range of their missiles I think is 1,200 KM or miles I don't remember which. So, you are just barking up the wrong tree, even though your reasoning is faulty. Just because everybody has been doing something so far, it doesn't mean that everyone has to do it in the future too.

The main goal of the Iranian missiles is to hit the US bases and ships in the Persian Gulf in case it is attacked by the big bully. If Israel is stupid enough to attack Iran then, again Iran will attempt pinpoint responses. Iranians are not crazy like the barbarian of the US and Israel. They would never try to annihilate an entire city and its population.

The Israelis are getting impatient. They want a war with Iran before Obama's re-election. But this war would create more problems than the threats it would ostensibly remove. This war would do an irreparable damage to the US reputation in the world.

I have to disagree. Israelis DONOT want anywars. To the contrary, they want to AVOID A WAR by preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. You see, Israelis are not suicidal. They prefer to LIVE IN PEACE over DYING IN WARS.

gonna have to agree with thinker. If they wanted a war, they could just bulldoze their neighbors with their military. I mean look what happened in 67 and 71,a nd they were fighting against the entire Arab world that time. The Arab world is caught up in their little revolution, if Israel was really the war monger the muzzies make them out to be, they would have already made their move.

Israel doesn't need to start anything, the dual citizen congress and cabinet members of this country are happier having your kids die for what Israel wants. Only thing now is to drum up the support, spark the propaganda and beat the war drums. I have lost so much respect for this country. This looks exactly like the Iraq propaganda about WMD's. The new American motto "guilty till proven innocent in a court of media." If you have a good case your innocent, we just wont put that on t.v.

The hawks in Israel are unlikley to wait until after the election to launch an attack, if they get their way. Attack is the same as war despite the protestations of those like Thinker23 who would have you believe that Israel will attack to prevent a war. There is no way Iran can be attacked without that attack igniting a war in the region. To try to argue that it is better to deal with a non-nuclear Iran than a nuclear Iran is disingenuous. It is NOT better to start a war with a non-nuclear Iran now than to continue sanctions and contain a nuclear Iran later. Israel will be doing exactly what the radicals in Iran want if they attack over the nuclear program. They will have the justification that they need to openly develop nuclear weapons and any attack will only delay, not prevent, Iran's nuclear program. The U.S. military is exhausted and badly needs a prolonged period of rebuilding and resupplying. We will have a need in the future for a strong and rested military, if we are dragged into another senseless conflict how are we going to be able to fight when ALL the wolves of the world have us by the throat? We need years of peace to recover from the misadventures of Iraq and Afghanistan, not another draining regional conflict to further exhaust our military.

I'm afraid that you're contradicting yourself...It is true that a large scale attack agaisnt Iran WILL start a war. This is precisely the reason Israel WILL NOT use force against Iran unless as a last resrt in case there will be no other way to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. On the other hand, allowing Iran to obtain nukes will put Israel, the US and the rest of the West into a situation where they would have to deal with Iran armed with nuclear weapons.

      • quinterius

Will you guys stop this ridiculous argument about "when Iran obtains nukes?" Iran is NOT developing nuclear weapons and has no interest in them. It is like saying if Iran goes to the moon, what shall we do? Talk about the real world. The stupid Israeli claims about Iran developing nukes are just garbage.

These so-called "diplomats" should ask themselves if the window for a diplomatic solution was ever even open, or was it a subterfuge of the Iranian government from the start. Judging from the Iranian government's actions thorughout these "negotiations" it would seem that the P5+1 have been the dupes of an Iranian plan to buy time and keep the western powers occupied with the idea that they could stop an irresponsible government with talk.

The window for diplomatic open was much wider a few years ago when Iran was willing to make more concessions than they are today under a more hardline, uncompromising leadership. The US, having just deposed Saddam and at the peak of its power, didn't want to hear any of it and instead reaffirmed regime change as its policy towards Iran. That just provided Iran with a stronger incentive to acquire nuclear weapon capability in order to deter the US from turning the aforementioned policy into reality.

The fact that Iranian leaders continue their efforts of acquiring nuclear weapons while developing long range ballistic missiles to deliver these weapons and promising Irainan people as well as the people of the neighboring Arab states that Israel will be destroyed speaks tons about any "windows". Iran offers the US and the rest of the world two choices, namely deal with Iran TRYING to obtain nukes today or deal with Iran ARMED with nukes tomorrow.

The American foreign policy for years has been a complete disaster.Starting from Vietnam.Followed by failures in Africa when you took on Russia. In this case nobody won. Now China with it's big money is there and doing well.Your forays in Iraq and now Afghanistan confirms your immaturity of your leadership.George Bush is a classic example. His "you are with us or against us" has brought untold problems in terms of money and innocent lives.Big money runs your government. That is your problem.
