Talking with the Taliban

Despite condemning a video that shows the execution of an Afghan woman accused of adultery, the Obama administration is defending its policy of talking with elements of the Taliban as a way to bring peace to Afghanistan. Begun in secret over a year ago, the talks broke off earlier this year. CNN Foreign Affairs Correspondent Jill Dougherty reports.

There is no real point of even to try to have anykind of "talks" with the characters who make up the Taliban. For the Taliban have proven time and time again by their own actions that they are ruthless thugs and not rational people and will not respond to reason. In any co called "dialogue" with them they would by very disingenous and would also dissimulate. They would keep their word in anything that they might promise only as long as it would suite them and no longer.

it's a matter of 'either your with us, or against us'... the US is probably looking for more guns to hire to help further destabilize Syria

Americans have been talking to the Talibans since the 1980s. Nothing new. Maybe we should play Barry White in the background for some climax.

Talking with the Taliban is something that is way overdue. This should have been started ages ago instead of all this senseless killing that produces nothing and helps no one!!! I know there are a lot of weak minded people out there who see otherwise. Will it happen? I sorely hope so!!!

    • Just answer the question.....

Would you still believe talking to the Taliban will stop senseless killing if that were your sister they assassinated, or your mother? You cannot negotiate with murderers... cold blooded murderers. How about this, why don't you go over there and talk to them? Take a box pre addressed with your home address so they can send your head to your family. It has nothing to do with a weak mind, it has to do with justice for a cold blooded murderer. I'm not worried about rehabilitating the Taliban, but taking this executioner out will prevent HIM from killing another soul in cold blood. Have a little courage and remove a threat to your own kind... it is the definition of being "human".

your definition of 'human' is fight and kill everything that disagrees with your way of life?... sounds like you borrowed that logic from the taliban themselves.... if we spent the same amount of money on feeding, clothing, educating that country instead of, say, bombing the crap out of them with drones, im sure you'd see a slight lift of anti-american sentiment in Afghanistan, and across the world.

but, heck, let's keep spilling blood until both sides are completely exhausted, similar tactics sure worked for primitive cavemen.... ive been having trouble remembering what exactly all this waring was for? they keep re-editing their objectives and reasons so it sure makes the whole thing dubious..
