A newly released photo shows Maj. Nidal Hasan now with a beard. The photo was provided by the Bell County Sheriff's Office in Texas.
Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, is accused of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others during a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas in November 2009.
In the aftermath of the shootings, radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki told Aljazeera.net that he had communicated with Hasan for about a year before the soldier allegedly went on the rampage. Al-Awaki, a leading figure in al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, was killed in a U.S. drone strike that targeted him in Yemen in 2011.
A military judge last week postponed a hearing on whether the government should pay for an expert neurologist for Maj. Nidal Hasan, after Hasan appeared in court with a beard, violating military grooming standards, according to a Fort Hood news release.

Why is Obama holding of the trial until after the election? Since when does a President step into this kind of affair?
President Obama is not the one who is delaying the trial. The delays have been requested by Hasan's lawyers. Where in this story is the President named or referred to. The President has absolutely nothing to do with this. If you have no idea how the military justice system works, please do the research before commenting.
The comments made by my 'peers' on blogs frighten me almost as much as the actions of those I should fear.

All he did to his fellow soldiers, their families, etc. and they are commenting on his 'violating military grooming standards'??? SERIOUSLY??? He violated human being standards!!
Why do people do these things? He cannot feel too bad about it,he planned it out and carried it out. Proboably had it in his mind for months. What does he have now,life in solitary confinement or the injection/gas chamber firing squad. Which he should get.
It's been 3 years since the Fort Hood shootings, so when does the US military plan to put this P.O.S. on trial?
Since he is still in the military,make him shave the beard off, it didn't grow on him overnight, and he doesn't need a "expert neurologist" to see him, he planned what he did, his lawyers have had 3 years for trial preperation so lets put this trough military court martial, so that the victims and thier families get some vindication.
I thought this guy was being held by the military. So why are the local Sheriff's people releasing photos?
Fort Hood has the faciliaties to hold personnel for short periods, however most long term prisoners find themselves in the Bell County Lock-up.
