Hotel cites national security defense in discrimination suit

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in DC barred a Muslim employee from serving an Israeli delegation, claiming it had no choice but to comply with a national security mandate from the U.S. government. CNN's Barbara Starr reports.

    Charles, you are the idiot. All of your references are out-dated and do not apply today. This problem is a current issue, and until the attacks between Israelis and Muslims cease there is absolutely legitimate reason.

    from the miniscule story it seems the gov't. told them to do this according to them. i'm sure any hotel (especially in D.C.) that doesn't want "future" problems would co-operate at that level. to the commentor above discrimination covers more than race. religion or creed is right there with other things like place of origin. did they bring a food tester in case a Muslim was washing dishes in the kitchen?

    Dear Becky You do not know anything about Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C. Hotel I just want tell to everybody .What in Washington Post article 12.15.2010,and CNN.The Situation Room pure true. I worked with Mr. Arafi on 12.10.2010.Friday, from 2.30.pm.to.10.45.pm.shift. and i know everything about this case.I have a few points that i want to share with you .MOWAS Hotel ,they changed stories every times,but Mr. Arafi and me we have one and only one story about this case. I have been in this hotel for 7 years and happen to know a lot of things but management do not like it as a result of these hotel fired me on 07.13.2011 . In this Hotel Managers are always right...and employees are always wrong And since i have been speaking up what is right they always look a way to get rid of me.MOWAS hotel under UNION rules and when some employees for any reason on his working shift changing his working place Managers Hotel must paid for employees extra 30$. but this is not only for us.. I covered all Mohamed pm shift from 5 pm. I did all requests for laundry Valet and nobody paid to me. on this day.I have question to MOWAS. Why did Managers call me to cover Mr. Arafi and nobody paid my extra 30 $? Please, feel free to email me if you have any questions or want to discuss anything in particular.

    How was this an actual problem for the employee? The employee suffered no harm, he was paid, he worked his regular shift. It is not racial discrimination, Muslim is NOT a race it is a creed. Can anyone HONESTLY, under OATH state that there is not an actual legitimate reason to fear actions from a Muslim towards an official from Israel? Like it or not, there is indeed reason to suspect a muslim attack against Israel.

By your logic Native Americans should be able to request not being served by white people, French should be able to request not being served by Germans, and Americans can request not being served by Japanese. Just because the employee got paid, he didn't get the gratuity that he would have received, which any server will tell you is their primary source of income.
