About that Iran explosion...

By Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr

That explosion last week at a missile plant in Iran appears by all accounts at this point to have been an industrial accident, according to two senior defense officials.

The officials tell CNN that the U.S. believes the Iranians were mixing volatile fuel for a rocket motor for a large ballistic missile when the accident occurred.  The officials asked not to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the information.

The explosion also caused other nearby munitons to detonate, killing several Iranian personnel.  Iran has been working on long range ballistic missiles that U.S. intelligence believes could be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead if Iran develops one.

This explosion screams "black op". A ballistic missile explodes, triggers a secondary explosion of munitions, and kills an important general...all seems very, very convenient.

Obviously, a lot of anti-semetics in the USA and Muslim nations. This would come as no surprise to us Israeli's; however, what the USA and Muslim nations fail to realize is here in Israel, we do not depend on the rest of the world and to all you idiots that think we do, obviously you have been smoking the crack-pipe too much. When we took out both the Iraqi Osirak nuclear plant in June 1981 and Syrian nuclear plant in September 2007, the rest of the world just sat back and watched in dismay.

Your US sanctions do nothing and your government is good for nothing. Your government cannot even take care of it's own, let alone the rest of the world.

Israel has been put through the test, time and time again, and we've always come out on top, from the 1948 War of Independence (just three years after the liberation of our people from the Holocaust), to the six-day war campaign in 1967, to the 1972 capture of the Munich Olympic Game terrorists, to the Yom Kippur war in 1973, to the 1976 raid on Entebbe, Uganda (to rescue many of my people), to the Osirak nuclear plant taken out in Iraq in 1981, to the Syrian nuclear plant we destroyed in 2007. We've done it ALL ALONE with NO HELP from the USA, NO HELP from anyone.

If our Israeli Knesset and government decides to move forward with a raid on Iran's nuclear facilities, we will accomplish this as well and it will not take ten years like it did your pathetic US government to capture and kill Osama bin Laden.

Hey soldier boy? When another country is picking up the tab on 20% of your entire national defense budget you should probably keep your mouth shut about how you do everything all by yourself and don't need anyone's help.

You should probably especially stay real nice and quiet and respectful about that country paying your bills for you in particular, rather than calling them pathetic. Don't you think?

Or are you saying you don't want that several BILLION dollars a year in military aid the US keeps you propped up with? Because if you don't I'm sure the US government can find somewhere else to spend it.

gcomeau, Israel is intellectual powerhouse and a lot of those brains are focused on keeping the country safe from radical islam. The USA has lots to benefit by throwing in some bucks and locking in exclusive rights to the technology that they develop. All this crap about Israel being bankrolled by the USA is just plain wrong... China would love to get their hands on what Israel develops to keep itself safe and the agreements with the USA are the only thing keeping that from happening.

thats why the connection with Israel is so solid... not because of any conspiracy. Return on investment is much higher on the money USA helps Israel with than on the billions spent on Arabs that reward us by going Islamist when they finally work out a democracy.

in short, the jews in israel are a capable people that are up against some very big threats. they dont have luxury to screw up for decades like Greece (they would be dead if so). When they go to work, they work hard and are driven by their national story. Money invested in Israel is money coming back double.;) If you are upset about foreign aid, then campaign against the billions we give to countries that produce nothing. There are many of those!

        December 8, 2011 at 1:05 pm |
      • gcomeau

Tali: You can think Israel is an "intellectual powerhouse" all you like. The fact remains that when another country is paying for 20% of your national defense budget and providing a significant percentage if not a majority of your advanced military technology then badmouthing them as worthless and lazy and spouting off about how you do everything all by yourself and don;t depend on anyone else is incredibly, mind numbingly stupid.

And you can say that bankrolling happening is "just plain wrong" all you like too, reality is reality. US aid covers approximately 20% of the Israeli defense budget annually. Period. Nothing you say is going to alter that fact.

I haven't got the slightest idea what "conspiracy" you're talking about so I'm just going to leave that one alone.

        December 8, 2011 at 5:56 pm |
      • tali

gcomeau, the 'bad mouthing' is against you, not against Israel's allies in the USA (a huge percentage). The help and cooperation is much appreciated on both ends. Its a very good deal for all parties. And you over estimate the importance of the aid for actual security and defense. It is mostly for research and battle-testing jointly developed weapons.

You are a fool if you misunderstand the benefits of this relationship. The people that make the decisions, though, are no fools, and the relationship continues.

I had the opportunity to meet a few Isreali pilots in 2001-02 in texas. This was during their pilot training, and I got schooled on what the US did for Isreal defense wise. Seems as though we provided a lot of your jets, and along with the funds, enable you to better defend yourselves. In exchange, we get an ally in the Middle east to share intelligence with us and we go to bat for Isreal when bigger countries want to wipe it off the map. I do not doubt the Isreali military's capability to deal with Iran on its own. It is a two way relationship, however, you are not dealing with the same regime types as you did in the past. This new era of military warfare, if used, is something that is very difficult to recover from from two areas, humanity, and monetarily. I feel another cold war coming if Iran's nuclear intentions do not become clearer very soon.

No, I'm familiar enough with reality to think the US supplies Isreal with approximately 3 billion dollars in military aid annually, and the Isreal defense budget is around $15 billion annually.

And I know enough math to know what percentage of 15 billion 3 billion is.

Also, a significant percentage of all the advanced military technology in your ENTIRE MILITARY is US supplied you ignoramus.

Why do people keep acting as if just because Iran gets a nuke that they will use it? The USA and the USSR had 1000's of them point at each other and still do to some extent yet never fired one. Iran will never use one for the same reason the USA and USSR never did, it will assure their own annihilation. They are just looking for attention. Ignore them and they lose a LOT of their influence in this matter, just like N. Korea.

Being an enemy of the CIA and Mossad makes daily life a danger to that person also so anything is possible. BUT incompetence seems to go along with the Jihadist way of life where feelings replace thinking; so maybe, just maybe, they screwed up the drill and stored munitions and the dual fuels too close to the site and blew themselves and the reported NK reps present to the sky..

Heck, it's ALREADY sabotaging US efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, any pretty much anywhere else US interests lie. What do you think they'll do once they have the bomb? Don't be so naive.

Why is it a US problem, and who is US. Simply because you can still blow up things doesn't mean you are a super power.

To me china is more of a "super power" than USA even though they lack the ability to blow things up " which no one knows" if they can blow a satellite in space, they can definately do alot more things.

Stop whining and stop dreaming in the 40's. the world has changed and he who has the industries and raw materials rules. Everyone else will just keep blowing things to make themselves feel important with borrowed money.

bioqubit, the problem with bognibmis that Israel only gets one biteat the apple and the US,at least inthe present political climate, is not going to be able to get the UNto authorize something like we hadwith Iraq where US planes are givencarte blanche to patrol the skies over Iran conducting strikes if andas we see the need for them. So wetoo will only get a few days to carry out whatever attack we wish before the situation goes critical. We also face the problem of Russiaarming the hell out of Iran withvirtually anything they want. If the Iranians have no real air forcethey do have lots of Russian SAMsystems and taking them out wouldrequire hundreds of sorties fromUS Navy and Air Force jets. Iranhas a 3 Kilo class subs and theseare equipped with Russian cruisemissiles and they have Chinese madesurface to surface missiles thatcan also put at risk carriers thatventure too close to Iran. Who knows they might even have Iranianversions of Kaitans-human torpedos. They claim 55,000 Iranians havevolunteered to be suicide bombersand 1000 have completed 'training'.I'm not saying they are 10feet tallbut they aren't midgets either. Alucky hit on a US carrier or a waveof suicide bombings in Europe orthe US is within their power. Theyare a lot more dangerous than Iraqever was.If you want the regime to fall thebest way for that to happen is tolet Israel do the deed on Iran'snuclear program. It will infuriatethem of course but it will also beso humiliating I can't imagine theregime surviving. We then might beable to get back to where we werewith Iran pre Jimmy Carter. I thinkwe stand a much better chance ofseeing a secular democratic Iranthan we will with any Arab state ifwe can get rid of the Ayatollahs without too much bad blood betweenthe US and the Iranian people.

Story reads: " Iran has been working on long range ballistic missiles ... capable of carrying a nuclear warhead if Iran develops one." Are we still hiding our heads in the sand? Shouldn't that say "...WHEN Iran develops one"? The world is going to shuffle its feet and mumble until Iran detonates a nuclear weapon in Israel, England, the U.S. or some other target.

No body stops to think.. hmm... US Officials commenting on what "probably" happened in Iran.. uh..(*cough*)...Misdirection..lol that basically makes it obvious that it was the result of a covert op..

Well, good, that probably means we (or Israel) have some covert assets in Iran working in our favor.

      This is great news!

So, by that logic, I suppose that means that whatever we do admit to doing, we can assume we didn't actually do because it's automatically misidrection? Sheesh... Also, in this case, it's not like the incident dealt any real actual blow to Iran's military capacity; i.e. there'd be no good tactical or strategic reason for such relatively small-scale sabotage. Accidents happen, people, especially when it comes to people who are working with dangerous chemicals on an *experimental* program. Of course I know that all I'm doing here is eliciting the response from the conspiracy goofballs of, "You're just saying that because you're part of the conspiracy". [rolleyes]

In the 1960's a Soviet heavy launch vehicle exploded killing several top researchers. Accident.
During a ground test, a fire in Apollo 1 killed three US astronauts. Accident.
Iranians experimenting with very explosive fuels are killed. Must be Israel / US / Knew Whirled Odor / Illuminutty / Free Mason-Dixons / Try Fatteroll commission . . .

So if there is an accident in Iran and we say it we think it was an accident, that means we are just coving up that it was not an accident but a covert op. So by that logic if we admitted it was a covert op, that means it was really an accident?

Why do people think nothing can happen in the world without someone being involved in some sort of cover up. Accidents happen, espeically with muntiions, rockets and the like.

bro, that's easy. George Sr went to war in Iraq. Iraq tried to kill him. George Jr becomes president and decides to attack Iraq again in response. I'm quite sure Jr was looking for any war to be just like daddy.

It's not about what the world community thinks....media can be fed with crap, and they'll blow it against the fan right away. when you declare war, you better know why. There is intelligence, that shoud have made sure of it, before we sent our youth to become smoked meat for no reason. While at the same time, everybody knows who is playing with building nukes.

Actual weapons? nope BUT, poor fellow they found a lot of degraded munitions of the mass destruction type (sarin and a few biologicals) poorly stored in caches AND a large cache of yellow cake in Iraq. Iraq used weapons of mass destruction aqainst Iran in their war. It appears you are as ill informed as most professors are who cling bitterly to their delusions. Those who can't do.....teach. It takes years of study and progressive a... kissing to get the degrees needed to become a student trolling fool in most Universities. This is why Professors are distrusted by most non-students and once most students understand professors puerile nature they discount their wacky thoughts and dangerous delusional thinking.
